About Myself
I am a child of the COLD WAR.
Born in 1961.
The Last of the Baby boomers.
I grew up in the 60's in Utah.
Now you may ask "What do you know about the World?"
Legitimate Question...
I will tell YOU!!!
I was not in Vietnam.
I was not involved in that WAR at all. UNLESS!!!!
You consider my involvement as HOME FRONT.
I was a child throughout most of the Vietnam Conflict (WAR).
But what I saw was quite different from most peoples view.
I saw the war from a child's point of view.
A television war.
A war my best friends Fathers, and Brothers were involved in.
I saw the Military Officers come to my friends house.
I saw my friends Mothers Break Down and cry on the front porch.
I saw my friends absent from school for weeks at a time.
I saw my friends have the Moving company come to their house and pack their belongings.
I saw the boys collecting patches from the Military Dump nearby.
I myself went to the Military dump and scavenged Practice (Wood) bomb dummy's from there to make Sleds to sleigh down the Snow Hills with.
And yes many of my friends went away with No explanation.
I listened to the music the troops listened to.
I watched for my friends Fathers and Brothers on TV every night.
I was a child of the Cold War..
Not as many of you may see it --- but as I see it.
Was I involved?
Your decision....
My Military career was with the United States Army.
October 1979- February 1983
I received my training at Fort Knox Kentucky.
MOS= 19D Armored Cavalry Scout.
I was stationed in Nuremberg Germany with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
50 km from the Checlosovokian Border.
I was assigned to Air Troop 2nd Platoon (DOG) as an
Aerial Recon. Scout 19D-2f (Test program)
I not only saw the "Cold War" I LIVED IT!!!
I have on many occasions literally been with my fingers through the fence staring at the Cheq and East German Border Guards rifles pointed at my head.
I have been shadowed by Hind's, and tracked by Ground to Air Missiles, as well as A-A Missiles from Mig Aircraft.
Was the border designed to keep me out?
NO
It was without a doubt designed to keep them IN!!!!!
Hence my fascination with the collecting Militaria.
