up with them. My second grade son, Danny, is interested in everything. Currently
he's playing flag football, which will be replaced by basketball, soccer, baseball
and swim team as the seasons change. He's a voracious artist and goes through the
scratch paper like crazy. I can't keep up with the paper chase. My daughters,
Michelle who's in kindergarten and Heather who is three, are taking ballet/tap
classes, which they enjoy. They have to have friends to play with constantly,
but when that fails they are good friends to each other. Then there's the caboose,
Matthew. He's almost one year old and keeps me busy chasing him. So between trying
to maintain a somewhat orderly home, keeping up with my children, teaching aerobics
and flute, and doing my own projects, I don't have too much time to think. But life

responsibility that entails. I will be graduating with an Acct Degree in Sept
and we are anxiously awaiting the next phase of life, whatever it turns out

lived in Sebastopol, CA, Portage, UT, Deweyville, UT, Morgan Hill, CA, and San Jose,
CA. I have been married to Alan Jackson who teaches high school electronics for
almost 26 years. We have five children. The oldest Joshua (24) will be going to the
University of Wisconsin at Madison to work on his doctorate in communications. Our
daughter Jenny (23) is a legal processor at the county courthouse. Our son Garrett
(almost 21) works as an autoCAD draftsman and studies engineering related courses at the
junior college. Our fourth child Susannah is diabetic and is graduating from high school
this week. She plans to go to the junior college this fall and study child psychology.
Our youngest (13) is Christina and she is finishing 7th grade. She likes cheerleading
and making people laugh. We also have a black Lab named Shelley and two cats named Luke
and Blue who are considered part of the family. We have a cabin that we are rebuilding.
My main interest is holistic medicine and we are the food storage coordinators for the ward.
I have only been to one Austrian Mission reunion but would like to go to another sometime and
see other missionaries from the Broberg era! My companions were Rebecca Barlow, Kathleen
Smart, Susan Bingham, Wilma Householder, Irene Damm, and Ruth Becker (twice). submitted: 2003 |

1994 and almost immediately went to BYU. I earned a degree in communications
(public relations) in 1998, but not before I met and married my wife, Kirsten
Sorensen, and had our first son Drew. He's now 3 years old and joined by a little
brother, Stoney (1 year). We lived in Seattle for 18 months, where I worked for
a large PR agency. We then moved back to Utah Valley for an international PR
position that allowed me to see much of the Asia-Pacific region and some of
South America. In January, I took a position with an online job site, FlipDog.com,
where I head up the company's PR efforts internally. We currently live in Orem,
where I run into mission friends now and then (I just saw Jason Steelman rock climbing
at the Quarry). I miss Austria and all its beauties and would love to hear how
everyone is doing!

I married my lovely wife Camille before finishing my undergrad at Berkeley.
I then went on to 4 years of medical school in San Francisco then several years
of residency training in Detroit. During those years we had 2 children and lived
most humbly. We now live in Phoenix, Arizona and our family has grown
again by 2. We enjoy friends (missionaries included) and family who come
to visit during our pleasantly mild winters (few if any come to visit in
the scorching summers!).
I have many fond memories of the time I spent as a missionary in Austria
and try to continue the missionary effort here in my home town. I have
a testimony of the gospel that continues to grow and am very active in
my home ward.

Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. My wife Kathryn and I have three children,

I went into the US Army, where I spent 20 years as a Medical Evacuation Helicopter
Pilot and Hospital Administrator. My family had many wonderful adventures and
experiences, culminating with an assignment as a military advisor to the Saudi
Arabian Military Medical Service from 1992-1994. My last assignment brought us to
Utah, where I retired from the Army in 1996. We now live in the Salt Lake City area,
where I work with a small, start-up health insurance company. Our greatest recent
experience was when we played host to my one convert from my mission, Eva (Strauder)
Hettenkofer, and her daughter, Gudrun. Eva had come to the USA to travel home with
Gudrun, who just completed a mission in the Salt Lake City Temple Square mission.
It was so wonderful to see them again and to hear about their family! I now have
two married daughters, two grandsons, and a daughter just finishing high school.
What more could one ask for?

I am now a full-time Mom, as we were finally blessed with a beautiful baby boy last October. He
looks just like his Daddy. I love being a Mom, but find it extra challenging to be first time
Mom suddenly in middle age. (Now, just how do you cuddle a sick little guy while recovering from
gall bladder surgery yourself? Ouch, don't put your foot there.)
We both love to travel, and had a chance to go back to Austria in Sept. 99, and again in

in German at BYU. Completed Doctorate in German Literature at the University of Utah.
Accompanied by her young family, she studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin for
one year (1997-1998) while on a Fulbright grant. Now works as professor of German at
BYU. Has four boys ages 4, 5, 7, 9. Pregnant and due in October of 1999. Husband, Bruce,
works at BYU as well and is currently pursuing a doctorate in counseling. He is also an

1971 with a major in German, a minor in English and Art. I got a job teaching German,
English and Art at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, California where I was the
Foreign Language Department Chairman for ten years. I completed my Masters Degree at
California State University at Long Beach (CSULB) in 1977 in Instructional Media. I got
a job in Ontario Oregon as a Media Specialist at Ontario High School and stayed there
for eight years. While there I completed my Administrative Certification through
University of Oregon and became a high school principal at Elgin High School, Elgin,
Oregon. We stayed there for three years. I then accepted the position of Media Director
for the Umatilla-Morrow ESD in Pendleton, Oregon and have been here for eight years. I
currently serve on the stake high council.
My wife, Ross-Anne Pearson is originally from Spokane, Washington. We met at BYU
and got married right after I graduated. She presently works with Sunridge Middle School
here in Pendleton, Oregon with the Special Education Classes. We have five great children.
Two have graduated from BYU, and our other three are at BYU completing their studies. So
far we have one married daughter and a second daughter seriously contemplating the deep
plunge also.

not being able to stay in Austria longer. When I returned to my home in Utah, I earned a BS
in physics from Utah State University and then a MS in physics from the University of Utah.
I also studied German literature and got a minor in it. I still speak German today. Along the
way I married a beautiful convert lady from Ohio. We have three children and live in South
Carolina where I work as Quality Engineer manufacturing inplantable heart defibillators. I
have stayed active in the church and currently teach primary. My experience in Austria was
an anchor for the rest of my life. As I return with my family to Austria for Christmas of 2001,
I am anxious to instill in my children a taste of that experience so they will desire to serve
missions too.
Oh and if Elder Wheeler checks in...You remember all those questions I asked you about
physics because you already had your degree? Turns out I was not just being polite, I really

mission days until I read some of the other memories and alumni updates. It makes
me feel proud to read about the strong history of our mission and the strength of the
members who have helped so many missionaries through the years, more than we could
have realized while in Austria ourselves. I served first under President Reber and
his wife and then under President and Sister Swensen. I served in Wien III, Wien I,
Wiener Neustadt, and Graz. So much has happened since I returned home. Unfortunately,
I haven't kept in touch with many of the missionaries I served with. Being farther
away in California, that can be difficult at times. I hope that you are all doing well.
When I returned home from my mission in August 1994, I got a full time job and
continued my education at California Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. After
some time I became very active in the Young Adult Ward in a neighboring stake. I made
good friends and served as the Relief Society President. That was a wonderful and
overwhelming time.
It was through one of the young adult dances that I met my future husband, Ronald
Walker. We dated for about 2 1/2 years, during which time I finished my education,
achieving a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, and Ron and I commuted one
hour each way to see each other on the weekends. I lived near Riverside with my family,
and he lived near Los Angeles. Isn't the regional dance program wonderful!?! In
March 1998 we married in the Los Angeles Temple and took an apartment in Riverside.
I'm working in Human Resources for a distributor in Orange County. My husband works
for an attorney service and has aspirations for law enforcement. No children yet, but
I think Heavenly Father has that plan under control. Family life and church callings
in Sunday School, Young Women's, and Priesthood have kept us cheerfully busy.

finished a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Child Development and
Family Relationships. Continued on at the University of Michigan to earn a doctorate
in Developmental Psychology in 1985. Have worked the past 12 years as a psychologist
for the State of Nevada doing therapy with children and families. I also teach part
time at UNLV in the Psychology Dept.
Met my wife Eileen at BYU and we have 6 wonderful children, two of whom are at BYU
now. My oldest son just returned from the Bolivia La Paz Mission in Feb. 2002. We have
lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Salt Lake City, Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Henderson, Nevada,
where we have been the past 12 years.
I don't see any old mission friends these days but it was fun to read a few of the
posts from people I knew. Ed Tolman's recounting of the Mormon Street Singers brought back
memories because I was fortunate to be able to direct the 1977 version of the Mormon Street
Singers the next year. I'm sure we weren't as good as the original but we had fun and were
also on the radio that year.
The sad news is one of my dear friends and mission companions (and best man at my
wedding), Blair Fenton, passed away about four years ago after a traffic accident in Salt
Lake City.

requirements at the University of Utah and graduated in 1997. After that we moved
to Maryland where I went to medical school. After 4 years in Maryland we moved to
San Antonio, Texas where we currently live. Im now finishing up residency training
in Pediatrics, after which I plan on doing fellowship training in Pediatric
Cardiology. My wife (Allison) and I have 3 beautiful children. Hailie (6),
Joshua (4), and Ethan (3 weeks). We would love to hear from anyone who served
