From support@xmission.com Mon Dec 01 17:22:55 MST 2008 Date: Mon, 01 Dec 2008 17:22:55 MST From: XMission SupportTo: announce@xmission.com Subject: ANNOUNCEMENT: Routing Issue Status: RO Routing Issue ------------- A problem with one of our routers caused some routing issues for XMission dial-up customers, a large portion of our wireless hotspots, and a few remaining dedicated connections on that router. The problems started at approximately 10:20 a.m. on December 1st and lasted until about 12:06 p.m. Details ------- Our former core router (asr1), a Cisco Catalyst 6509, was not handling BGP routing properly, affecting the servers and dedicated connections that remained on it to differing degrees. We moved many remaining systems off of it before reloading it. While asr1 once served as our core router, most systems had already been switched over to our newer redundant core. During the recent power outage, asr1 exhibited unrelated issues, which caused us to further move additional systems off of it. We were planning to do these remaining migrations this coming weekend during normal maintenance. Lastly, we plan to replace asr1 in the near future with a Cisco Catalyst 3560 or 3750. Conclusion ---------- Although most customers were not affected by today's routing issue, we apologize to anyone that did experience problems. We are currently building a redundant power grid to our server room that is fed by a different UPS and generator. This will feed the second power supply of all core systems and be operational before the end of this month.
