If that means you get left in the back, don't worry - you'll catch up eventually. If I fall behind, I fall behind. It's not the end of the world - as most times the rest of the group will stop and wait, or... you're all heading for a specific final destination, and can meet up there. As you say it can be more dangerous. My preference is not to have more than 4 to a cluster. There may be another a mile or more in front of me and a other a mile or more behind me. That allows for other traffic to proceed without undue danger. Yet, we still get to participate as a "group" without racing or riding beyond any ones individual limit. Everyone should ride only where, when and how they are comfortable. You're right it is a matter of safety! Personally, when you and I have ridden together, such as Chief Joseph last year, I really enjoyed and appreciated your riding style, read limits displayed. I feel the same about Ken Bertan, Vic Kennedy (though his bike could use a little more fuel range), Dave Barber, Thane Beckstrand and many others in this club. There are some I will not try to keep up with even in the straight and level. It's their choice and I will never try to tell them where, when or how to ride. But, I can and hope to learn from any and all. It's amazing, actually. As rider, in leu of bikers, many, at least me, ride for solitude yet like some company in case of trouble. I feel we may be a gaggle of individuals who come and go from the group freely. It's almost an oxymoron. A group of individuals by common and individual consent. Free to come and go as each may feel so inclined to do. I, personally, practice that if anyone I'm "riding with" does not show up at the expected place w/I a reasonable amount of time I will backtrack to make sure they are all right and not stranded. I think this is the same each of us would do. Would you like to join us for this adventure of individuals loosely clustered by the common, yet individual, anticipation of the ride? I do appreciate your ability to freely speak your mind and share your thoughts. They are needed. They are well received and very wise, especially on having too large of a group being dangerous on the highways. I agree with you. I hope to share a ride with you many times over. I was confusing the Haggerman Campout location with the place where some are planning on camping this weekend. I thought it was the same place, since I have not attended either. So, let's see if I can figure this out. Haggerman is in the Fall and has no relation to this weekend. (Bob is correct) This weekend is at Franklin, ID, which, I think, is just north of Logan. I should be able to follow your directions. Questions: Do I misunderstand that you are going to take a truck load of firewood and other stuff up on Friday to the campsite? Are any others going up on Friday p.m.? Is it possible to camp there on Friday? How much is the camp fee? I'd like to stay for Sat. evening dinner. How much or how is this handled? Donated food for community stew pot or $ donation to cover groceries used? I cannot stay over on Saturday night. And if I am to get to camp I must do it on Friday. I would still attend the Sat. Club Breakfast but probably sit by myself as the camp odor would prevail. ; ) Thanks, Deav. - -----Original Message----- From: valley infinet To: beehive-beemers@lists.xmission.com Date: Friday, June 12, 1998 6:58 AM Subject: BB: Re: Re: Haggerman Campout Friday, too? >Bob, I believe the Deav has confused campouts, your right about Hagermann >in Oct.. I'm not sure how we won it, since of the 22+ members we had there only 12 counted. One must be preregistered to be counted and must indicate their club membership on the pre-reg form. In the past we have had members who preregistered, but listed IBMWR, Airheads, or other virtual clubs. When they do this, they don't count as BB members even if they are at the rally. Air Cafe in Kamas at 10:00 am for breakfast. Then ride up the Mirror Lake HYWY. By the way-just got back from the riding in the Alps-and got snow in Austria-enough to close the Timmels Joch pass for the day-so we are not the only ones with an extended winter. Also my newly acquired 1991 R100GS alternator gave up on the Autobahn only 30 miles from Heidleberg on the way back-was able to switch batteries with Jerry Kelly's rented K75 and made it back okay. It makes you appreciate the shoulders we have in the US-not as much fun doing wrenching in the weeds with folks wizzing by you at 140 mph.
