One theory, which is not explicitly contradicted by the available evidence (as I know it): every 2-3 years another potential-Slayer is born; as they hit mid-adolexcence they are idenitfied and tracked by the Watchers (note there may be 2-3 "in the zone" at any given time); if the current Slayer dies during this wondow, the Watchers identify the new Slayer and start training. This means that someone else had been the Slayer but was killed, and Buffy was called as the new Slayer. In PG she says, "I remember the drill. One Slayer dies, next one's called." The vampires would have a field day if we had to wait for a new Slayer to be born and grow up enough to be able to slay the vampires. There must be some kind of mystical transference of Slayerhood from the dead Slayer to the new Slayer, so that Earth is always protected from the undead. Well if Dru and Spike's relationship isn't incestuous, it certainly is sick and sleazy, worthy of Caligula and his sister's relationship. I admit, the way Dru licked the blood of Spike's face was pretty sick, but reality is more horrific than any fictional horror Joss Whedon could come up with. I'd like to see Joss/Spike/Dru top Caligula's stunt of cutting open the womb of his screaming pregnant sister/wife and devouring the fetus he tore from her body. Yup! That's what he did! Yuck! Neither do I. But like everyone else, I like to spin theories that fit the facts, however tenuously: 1. Drusilla. When I first watched the episode, I thought she was crackers. I mean, talking to the dolls and all, right? However, aside from that, she is one shrewd lady, even if she has a certain flair for expressing herself. No other signs of insanity. Plus, she gets visions. That's not normal for a vamp. Let me put two and two together and see if I get five - maybe she's a vampire and also a witch! Why not? And if a woman can be imprisoned in a cheerleading statue, like last year, why can't people be imprisoned in dolls? By Drusilla, of course. Now who would be trapped inside the dolls.... Second, Drusilla's physical condition. She wore a flowing dress that totally concealed her figure. Who wears stuff like that? Pregnant women, that's who! Maybe Drusilla is weak and has weird eating habits 'cause there's a baby vampire in the oven! Heehee. Why not? Plus, she and Spike were talking about how things were going to be vastly different "in a few weeks." Maybe that's the due date (Ok, that last bit's a stretch). 2. Joyce Summers seemed awfully cool under pressure and unexpectedly handy with an axe. Spike took off pretty darn quick afterwards, too. Maybe he recognized something we could not - that Joyce herself was a former slayer, coming "out of retirement" to save her daughter! Watchers run in families - why not slayers? She and Buffy are by definition of different generations. It would sure solve a lot of problems from this season *and* last season (sure, Joyce, it was a barbecue fork). All right, so it's a slow night and the old imagination is running wild. But if I'm right on any of this, you'll never hear the end of it! Heehee. jb "Penance? You should lay down your life!" What if one Slayer is born into each generation, but the old Slayer is NOT killed. Now streach that even further, and suppose that BOTH Slayers are active. This would create a Slayer overlap. You could concevably have 3, 4, or even 5 active Slayers at the same time (supposing that Slayers don't have a manditory retirement age). Rember, it says "Into each generation is born a Slayer. One girl in all the world...." It never said that the old Slayer MUST die in order for a new Slayer to be born. I've found several parallels between Buffy and Highlander. If you don't watch Highlander, ignore this. 1. Immortals fight Immortals. Buffy fights immortals (vampires, anyway). 2. Immortals can 'sense' other Immortals. Buffy can 'sense' vampires (some of the time, anyway. *g*) 3. Immortals carry swords. Giles has a sword (seen in the various library scenes). 4. Immortals have Watchers. Buffy has a Watcher. 5. Immortals can be killed by beheading. Vampires can be killed by beheading. 6. And my favorite: Immortals 'die' without actually dying. Buffy has 'died.' (Maybe she wasn't revived by Xander. Maybe she was waking up as a new Immortal. *g*) Heh heh, okay, this was pointless. :) Greyson Keeper of Buffy's Dresser Drawer of Weapons Keeper of Willow's Aspirin Greyson@tripod.net "'Tis now the very witching time of night, when churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out contagion into this world; now could I drink hot blood and do such bitter business as the day would quake to look on." - Hamlet, Act III, Scene II ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Oct 1997 23:10:44 -0700 From: Ted Nelson Subject: Re: BUFFY: Drusilla theory > Betsy Vera wrote: Theory: What if Drusilla is one of the Slayers Spike= =20 > killed? You're forgetting the possibility that she may have been forced. Many vampires in various stories have been forced to become vampires, rather than it being a choice on their part. This is implied in what Buffy says about the whole big sucking thing, that generally vamps won't try to make someone a vamp, but will just kill them (paraphrased). It wouldn't have to have been Drusilla's choice. Her mouth could have been held open while his cut wrist dripped into it. Not to get too disgusting, but that's just one way it could have happened. I kind of like the idea of her being a former Slayer, myself. It's an intriguing theory, how even a Slayer could be "turned to the dark side" when she loses her soul. He really didn't give anything away. The host guy asked him flat out what's going to happen and David played it cool saying that he doesn't know (which we all know he does). ;> Ok, now that the obligatory possible spoiler information is out there, I just must say OH MY GOODNESS! Ok, I always knew David was a good looking guy, but seeing him in shadows and darkness never let me appreciate how gorgeous he really is! Oh boy. And he can actually talk above a whisper! Oh my. Oh, he made sure he gave a "shout out" to the cast and said how much he enjoys working on the show. :) Pardon me while I go fan myself. I thought he was pretty cool on there, acting nothing like his character Angel. I mean, he was like joking around, laughing a lot. It showed a clip that both he and Spencer did I don't know when about clothes, or something like that. David said some other things, like how his first gig was a Foster's Beer Commercial, or how he used to sell gourmet food door to door. He also told some weird story about a psychic which I didn't really understand. I just thought he was pretty cool cuz I'm not used to seeing him like that. Anyways, just wanted to let all of you know. Catch everyone later. Its a little more than that. Teens are at school 6+ hours a day then have 2 hours of homework each night. Thats 8+ hours of school per day (doesn't include sports or other extracirricular activities). So teens spend about 1/3 of their day with school and 1/3 sleeping which leaves only a fraction forfamily, friends, jobs, and TV watching of course. And the internet (this is the 90's). I don't see how Buffy has adequate time to do homework with slaying for a few hours per day. And even if she gets it all done when does she have time to watch her favorite TV shows? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Oct 1997 00:25:35 -0800 From: "Christopher B. "Affected" as in "assumed for effect; artificial" (Webster's Dict). IMHO, they kinda have the sound of invented accents (but cool ones, nonetheless). This would make sense for James because he's an American. I don't know Juliet's nationality. It's a bit different with Tony, because he's actually English. Rumor has it he doesn't really sound like Giles IRL, but there the difference may be more a matter of assuming character with maybe a hint of dialect, as opposed to a whole new nationality. Anyway, that's what I was trying to get at, At 12:24 AM 10/2/97 -0700, Mark Safransky wrote (edited): >I think Lisa meant "affected" to mean that the actors don't actually speak >with the accent they are using for the characters. Yup, that's pretty much it. And it's not meant as a slight to either James or Juliet whose characters are quite captivating IMHO.
