hi ryan --
i worked for elektra for 5 years, and still have
contacts there.
they said that any new elektra release is strictly 'a
one off contract'.
my guess is that the cure had a great relationship
with elektra, so why not put stuff out here on that
label.

Hi, there is a longer version, yet there is no proper Cure song called "All
I Have To Do Is Kill Her". That was a name made up by a stupid bootlegger.
AIHTDIKH is actually a version of "All Mine" which, it turn, is an offshoot
of "Forever". Referring to "All I Have..." generally means the only,
semi-widely known full version of "All Mine". The Curiosity version isn't
even complete.
What you're looking for is 11 minutes and 40 seconds long. It was performed
on the 14 Explicit Moments Tour in Paris on June 7, 1982.
I hope this helps,
Chris

Hey there, I see what you're saying, but there only two songs. All Mine and
Forever are mainly improvisational. No two versions are alike. I've heard
about 4 different versions of Forever (May 31, 1980-Herford, Scala; May 15,
1984-Paris-Curiosity; 1984-Studio Demo; and August 6, 1996-Sacramento, Cal
Expo) and 2 of All Mine (Curiosity; and June 7, 1982-Paris-AKA All I Have To
Do...).
And, I'm sorry, but I do not have a way of trading right now.
Does anyone on the list have a link to that web site that was dedicated to
the history of Forever? I can't seem to find it.

I have several Robert Smith side projects for auction. The auction will end
11pm (EST) Saturday Aug. 11. I will consider trades for rare items by Low
or Ida.
Please send any bids to my personal e-mail address, not to the list.
1) Siouxie and the Banshees - Nocturne gatefold LP - Robert played guitar on
this double live album.
2) Siouxie and the Banshees - Nocturne video - VHS NTSC format - this rare
official video features Robert backing Siouxie and co. live at the Royal
Albert Hall. For guitar fans, he plays some unusual guitars in this video.
Video played once.
3) Siouxie and the Banshees - Hyaena - LP with gorgeous embossed jacket.
4) The Glove - Blue Sunshine - CD. Full-length album plus 3 bonus tracks.
5) The Cranes - Jewel CD single. Features an excellent 12" mix by Robert
with some beautiful 6-string bass (just like most of the Disintegration
album).
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi, I just thought, I start an interesting thread here (at least I
think it's interesting).
I'd like to know which are your favourite live versions of which
songs?
To get an idea, I'll start with two of mine ...
Bare - my favourite version is the one from the MTV promo gig 7-may-96
(the one that's available on variouse boots). It sounds so beautiful
and true there, and carries a magic that they never reached again on
the whole tour.
Just Like Heaven - Prayer Tour with all the distinct guitars was a
special year for Just Like Heaven, it never sounded that powerful on
any other tour - best version ever to me: L.A. Dodger Stadium
8-sep-89. Listen to it, and you'll never wanna hear another version
again. Unfortunately this gig isn't available on any cd/vinyl boot,
but a good recording is out there ...
If there are such special versions for you, too - let me know and post
here. I hope we'll enjoy this and bring back some live to descent :)
Have fun,
Stefan.

I am kinda partial to the A Letter to Elise from unplugged, and Why Can't I
Be You from Glastonburry '89.
I know mainstream, but I like alternative lyrics, and both of these songs
have reat alt. lyrics.

DINOSAUR JR. TO RELEASE ANTHOLOGY
Rhino Records will release "Ear Bleeding Country," a DINOSAUR JR. best-of
album,
on October 2nd. The nineteen-song compilation was assembled with the
assistance
of frontman J. MASCIS and covers the band's past fifteen years, including a
cover of the CURE's "Just Like Heaven." "They let me pick some songs and
take
out some songs," Mascis told Rolling Stone. "I was pretty happy with the
songs
on it." Mascis has also started pre-production work on his second solo
album. "I
recorded maybe seven songs," he said, "and I already don't like one of
them."

hi.if anybody is about from babble ~5yrs ago then hello again. just glancing
buy to see if i can cope with a list at the moment....anyway to the point,
this version of disintegration is a classic..that was the final prayer tour
show (uk @ least) was it not..it is the energy and intensity that lifts it
above any other version in my mind. i imagine at the time they really did
feel they were doing it for the final time....other live versions include
forest from the show video, and anything they ever play in france.......

i just have to say this again, but smithy's guitar sound in that period of
the cure is just amazingly crystalline. and on that recording, you can see
how good it was sounding live.
like bells of various colors intertwining together in this slightly jangly
swirling kaliedoscope of sound and sway.

My favorite live song I can think of is Faith Torino
Italy 89 - the music seems to sort of take off near
the end and it's really beautiful.
It took so long for there to be a descent digest this
time I was worried it had died like babble.

the holy hour from this show is very guut :)
I also like most that shows up in these thread (from curiosity, concert,
and paris)
about alternate lyric, the holy hour for ian curtis from "I hate rock n
roll" (?) is also awesome!
i'm very keen on keyboard sounds of the cure, i'll say funeral party
sometime in belgium very very great!
however the most impressing live shows I like most now is nocturne!
reminds me of one of my favorite album the top.
I love most of 84 shows, especially caterpillar, bananafishbones, top,
those from Japan, Cold, and Hertogenbasch.

Get Smart 86 mentioned Play For Today from Paris and I agree. I love to
hear the audience sing the melody played by the keyboard.
Other favorites are Untitled from Entreat because of the dreamy guitar solo
at the end; Pictures Of You from Show because of the slightly lethargic
drums that gives the song an extra relaxed and reflective mood (I went
skydiving and had them put that version of the song on my video);
Bloodflowers from the VH-1 Hard Rock Live because of its stripped down
delivery that reminds me of something circa Pornography; All Mine from
Curiosity; and (but not all inclusive to my list) A Forrest from Concert.
One of the most memorable live (in person) experiences with a song was A
Strange Day during the Whistlestop tour in San Francisco, February 2000.
That song never stood out to me before, but it really came alive after
hearing that rendition.
Thanks Stefan, that was fun,
Chris

the holy hour from this show is very guut :)

I rather like it. It maintains the spirit of the original while
interjecting Dino. Jr's style. Covers that sound and feel exactly like
the original, the only difference being the voice singing the lyrics,
are entirely useless (think any Rod Stewart cover of Van Morrison).

Play For Today- anomolies (that isn't the correct spelling is it?)

I'd have to say that the Figurehead on Paris was better than the version on
Pornography. The drums are not as sharp but that riff is just eerie.

the drums are SOOO much better because there's a real drummer playing them
as opposed to someone in the drum seat by default.
that's why i like so many of those early era tracks from Paris...Boris puts
drums into those songs just right, brings a new life to them.
big shout out to boris williams!!

I agree with the others, 'Same Deep Water As You', 'Apart', and 'To Wish

way.
I'm getting that 'crying, headache feeling' just thinking about them. :~}

the very very most depressing song to me is :
UNTITLED- off of disentegration. i listened to that A LOT after my best
friend killed himself. i finally had to put it away. it still makes me cry
when i hear it.
also
LAST DANCE
PLAY FOR TODAY
YESTERDAYS GONE (ok not a CURE song, but isn't Robert the cure??)
FROM THE EDGE OF THE DEEP GREEN SEA
ok there are many many many more then that, but those are the 5 saddest to
me. even play for today which is somewhat upbeat is very sad if you take it
to heart.

For me, depressing and moving are almost two opposite feelings so I'm going
to label my list "sad" or "melancholic" songs, keeping in mind that
depressing would be an entirely different list. So without further ado:
Cherry Tree Girl's top five most sad/ melancholic Cure songs (the ones that
really make me cry):
5) Plainsong
4) Bloodflowers
3) A Chain Of Flowers
2) Fear Of Ghosts
1) A Letter To Elise

Well, I _do_ like other covers... actually I've found some to be really
great. There was this Hardcore band (POD?) that a workmate was into and
they did Fascination street... it was ok, and I have an mp3 of Collapsis

To simply add to the discussion... :)
As a drummer and a minimalist, I actually like the drums more on the
Pornography version because Lol never hits a cymbal on the entire recording.
I find it to be sort of 'eerie' and 'off' from what is expected. It's one of
those "it's not what you play, but what you don't play" scenarios that makes
it good in a sort of John Bonham ala When The Levee Breaks type of way.
Although, I find it a bit irritating that Lol reverses the rhythm just after
the "bridge" section in the middle of the song. His 16th 'note' lands in
the wrong spot of the melody after that. Ah, well, I guess that's Lol, huh?
But, I do really like Boris' drumming on 100 Years from Paris better than
the 'canned' drums from the album version.

Yeah, it was a Christian band, but not P.O.D. It was Stavesacre, which I
will be (shameless plug) selling soon on my web site ;>)

but I can't remember which song or the artist right now. Oh, the irony, but
I'm sure the song wasn't Where The Birds Always Sing.

I'm almost tempted not to answer this because I'm keen not to perpetuate the
notion that The Cure are by default a "depressing" band. But since it's open
to "moving" as well (and there are one or two deeply dark songs in the
repertoire!!), here goes...
NOT IN ANY ORDER:
1. 'Treasure'... cried first, second and third time I heard it... Still cry
sometimes now... Had just split up with a very disturbed girl who "always
tried" etc. It also carries a strong suggestion that it's a swansong... from
a deathbed...
2. 'To Wish Impossible Things' is a perfect song of lost
love/opportunities/times... instrumentally and lyrically it's very much like
a Romantic poem of Shelley... see extract printed in Wish CD booklet.
3. 'Bloodflowers' stirs it up bigtime... very powerful
4. 'Fear Of Ghosts' - very depressing - "And the further I get from the
things that I care about, the less I care about how much further away I
get..." eerie.
5. 'The Last Day Of Summer'... I was listening to the Bloodflowers album
constantly from the day it came out for about a year... my father died on
27th September 2000 and that was like the Last Day Of a very long Summer...
I'll probably change my mind by tomorrow though... The Kiss is a big fave
for letting off some steam...
