Hello All,
I have been a silent member of descent for about 4 years.  I feel I need to jump in here on this recent America bashing trend.  I am American and had friends and family stuck over in New York City on September 11...so this hits home for me.
It is not so much that we are saying " oh no this shouldn't happen here" it is that this should not happen ANYWHERE.  Terrorism is a sick evil that had occurred in many countries and has taken many lives and this particular attack is the last straw.  America is a strong and rich country that provides ALOT of foreign aid to countries that need it.  Negative things can be said about our politicians, however, in this time of tragedy politicians and all Americans have really come together in a supportive way that I have never seen before.  Americans truly want peace for the entire planet.  We welcome immigrants and provide aid, we are a melting pot.  Any foreigner can come here, become a citizen, receive financial aid, education, and is given an opportunity to enjoy the same benefits as other American citizens.  That is what makes this country great.
The world is now facing terrorism, a force to be reckoned with that can easily effect other countries just as badly as the U.S., I think we need to stand together.

Blessed Be, Amanda

Consider these: ==Cuts Defense Department Cooperative Threat Reduction Programs (Nunn-Lugar) by $40 million from $443 million to $403 million. The Administration has already reduced the Department of Energy non-proliferation programs by $100 million. ==Provides Ballistic Missile Defense programs $8.3 billion (an increase of $3 billion or 57% from FY 2001). ==Despite talk of "skipping a generation of weapons," the budget funds all major weapons systems on the drawing board, postponing weapons decisions until the fiscal 2003 budget. ==The Defense Department's recent request for an additional $18 billion was not covered by the fiscal 2002 budget resolution adopted earlier this year and now has to be approved by the House and Senate Budget Committee Chairmen. ==The Pentagon's budget revision includes a section repealing the statute barring the unilateral reduction of the U.S. nuclear weapons (Section 714). [twirls finger] from: http://www.clw.org/milspend/dodbud02.html Revised 7/6/01 ===== HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NEW MILITARY BUDGET ==== ==Requests $343.2 billion in national defense (050) spending for fiscal 2002 representing a $32.6 billion increase (10.5 percent) above 2001 levels of $310.6 billion. ==The largest single-year increase since early in the Reagan Administration and the third largest peace-time increase since WWII. The increase alone is greater than the defense budgets of every country in the World except England, Russia, China and Japan and it is greater than the Gross Domestic Products of over one third of the individual nations in the world. 343.2 compared to 4.63... wow... 4.63 is tremendous! What is that, like 1.3%? Come on... I know you are trying to look on the bright side, but using US expenditures to back it up is like using the Bible to justify killing someone...... > > Consider this -- the total FY2001 USG assistance to Afghanistan is > $183,648,477. All of them feature Robert on the cover. The mags are either from 1987 or 1988 (the 1987 ones cover the only visit of the cure to Buenos Aires/South American tour), and are in mint condition. This is a unique opportunity to get hold of these treasures. Below I listed the issues. Please, drop a line if you're interested, want a scan of the covers or have any questions (first comes first serves). 1) Rock & Pop, early March 1987 Right before the Buenos Aires show. The cover reads "the cure: all about their new album and the south american tour". Amazing cover. One of my favs. 2)Rock & Pop, late March 1987 Preview issue of their show in Buenos Aires, from March 1987. The cover reads "finally: the cure in argentina". 3) Pelo, April 1987 Unique Argentinian cover pic: super close-up of Robert at the Buenos Aires press conference. Gorgeous, really. Another fav. This issue came out after their shows in Buenos Aires. The cover reads "for the first time robert smith tells the thrush about the tour" . The title of the article is "somewhere in beirut" because of the riots that took place in both the Argentinian and Brazilian shows. Robert talks about his impressions of these shows in the interview. 4) Pelo, February 1988 This is a Cure special issue. On the cover it reads "cure special" - " the last interview. the new image. scratches and kisses from Smith". It also comes with a very cool poster of the band (great 1987 pic), in nice, thick, glossy paper. 5) Pelo, May'88 This is a very funny issue. The cover reads "robert smith records a solo album - what happens with the cure?". The title of the article is "robert smith announces his debut as a solo artist" ... hahahahaa There's also a very cool ad for the head on the door, with its unique Argentinian cover (different from all the other hotd's covers of the world). Thanks :) Cheers Flor __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make a great connection at Yahoo!
