My bike is a 95 SE...just like yours. If you have 3 hoses coming off the R side of your carb, one of them needs to by yanked & disposed of, cause there should only be 2. The "stub" toward the front of the carb on the right side should have a hose running to the vacuum opening of the fuel petcock (the petcock tube that points in toward engine instead of the larger one that points straight back; if you dont have 2 tubes on your petcock, someone has replaced the stocker w/ a non-vacuum one, in which case you can plug the stub this hose goes to on the carb). The "stub" toward the back of the carb on the right side should have a tube running "UP" into the frame or maybe just tied to the frame somewhere over the engine. This is the VENT hose. If you truely have a 3rd hose connected to your carb on the R side, it is connected to a "stub" that is not hollow and therefore isnt doing anything but just hanging there. The only carb hose that had a spring wraped around it on my bike was the fuel line on the LEFT side of the bike. So if you say you have the spring-covered hose connecting to what sounds like the VENT tube on the R side, just taking a wild guess here.....maybe you have your fuel line hooked up to the wrong side of the carb? Make sure this spring covered hose isnt coming from the petcock. If it is, thats the problem....pull it & connect to the only place you can on the L side of carb. Good luck! Answer Pro-tapers Bret, Now that you have some experience with BB installation, can you give me a hand? ;-) Sorrry; couldn't pass that one up: I went though the same thing only with SRCs - I suspect since my experience was the same - cut lever knobs off, cut bars down, bend BBs until blue in the face - that Answer make SRCs, and both are not worth the $ nor the trouble of bending/cutting to fit. Now this is what you have to look forward to: every time you drop the bike on its side, the "knob less" levers will poke through the plastic deflectors! I have a matching pair :-/ I ended up giving them away to a friend, and bought Fredette's (FRP; 708-946-0999) which, believe it or not, fit on without *any* bending; same w/my son's XR. Answer Pro-tapers I just installed pro-taper enduro bend bars on my 96' DR350 and used the adapter kit sold by answer. I think they are great. I also put on pro-taper hand guards ($60) with the moose plastic ($25). They look cool and protect my hands very well but they were a bitch to put on. I had cut the knobs off my levers, cut a half inch off both sides on my brand new handlbars, cut the new moose plastic guards, drill holes in my bark busters, drill a hole in the throttle tube, and it was a pain to get the grip off the throttle tube (I took it to my bench grinder for about a half an hour. The hole deal took me about three hours. I also don't recommend Renthal bars, though they do look cool they bend almost as easily as stock (unless your talking about the new twinwalls). Oh yeah does anyone know a replacement screw for the left panel on a dirt only DR. It is the one that takes a half turn to get in and out. Normal screw won't thread into it for some reason. P.S. the new smith grips are great. Bret Gergely 95 DR350SE 96 DR350 and my dad is the proud new owner of a WR400F wich at the moment won't start. Fast for a four-stoker though. Moreover, there are no extra lines; the unit replaces the existing hose along the left side of the frame tube. And finally, the XR4's (& older XR250) design is good but could be better executed; when I replaced the washers/seals and torqued it all to specifications, it still leaked @ most of the fittings. The DR hoses & fittings are larger & have more surface area/contact for a better seal, but this is splitting hairs. Suffice to say that any means of cooling hot oil a few deg. is a good thing. John >The street versions do not have the oil cooler only the DR 650 has it.I personally do not like the set up.If you dump deep in the woods and puncture it or snap a line your done.My friends XR400 has the best designed oil cooler i've seen it's shaped like a kidney and mounts around the head tube of the frame(under the headlight housing) and made of tough aluminum fins nearly impossible to bust it up.I wish they would come out with a similar one for our DR. Hammy, I agree with Scott in that you ought to continue and rejet - it's worth the effort as most have found. Scott, as for gas mileage, we ride dirt only, and have never had to switch to reserve. The longest treks im mind: 70+ miles of easy fire roads w/ my youngsters, and 55 miles of (insanely) fast desert w/two friends on YZ250s, which used up twice as much gas as the DR (the YZ have big, natural-colored IMS tanks), and we were mostly on the main jets. The Suzuki Gel seat is made by Travelcade, & sells for $175 from a Suz dealer. Travelcade sells the same thing without the plastic seat pan (have to use your stock pan) for about the same. Suzuki is better deal cause you dont have to mess w/ mounting the foam & cover, and you have a 2nd seat left if you need it. Its comfortable, but I notice a little seam in the middle that is slightly irritating. Dont know about Corbin, but every Corbin I ever sat on has been way too firm for my scrawny ass.
