Fractint is a subdirectory (or folder) under your root directory of C:\ My sstools.ini file resides in my Fractint directory. My Fractint directory has individual folders named Pars, Maps, Frms, etcetera. My sstools.ini file has a line that reads map=C:\fractint\maps However, my individual color maps all reside as files in the maps subdirectory under fractint. So, if I wanted to try out the colors in my data.map, the command line sequence would look something like C:\fractint\maps\data.map. The sstools.ini file would direct your program to look in your maps subdirectory to find the color.map itself. (in this case, data.map) It'd look in C:\ as your root directory for a folder or directory called Fractint. Then, it'd look under fractint to find the maps folder, and then look in maps to find your individual color or .map file. I'm not sure if this is what you wanted to know. If your question applies to something entirely different, I'm sure one of us will be able to help you here. This will assign different colors based on the angle of z, so if the final points have different angles, you should be set. Thank you. I am mystified though- how does one get the words >Merry Christmas in the par file? > That's done by the elaborate initialisation that starts " chrM1 = (y<-xm+1.2086||y-xm+1.14223&&y>xm-0.31193||(x>0.\ 23889&&x<0.26354)||(x>0.31812&&x<0.34277) " and continues in much the same vein for most of the rest of the formula up to the "test0=test1||test2" bit. What this and the "test0==0" in the last line do is force Fractint to bail out after only one iteration if the starting point happens to be inside the shape defined by all those points for which test0 is true, rather than going the whole hog as it does for the rest of the image. This shape happens to look exactly like the words "MERRY CHRISTMAS". As the comment in the formula indicates, a program called FracText was used to turn the shapes of the letters into regions of the plane. Question. Is there a way to get into some serious equation modification? On the Amiga, I have a program which let me generate far more serious modifications to lyapunov fractals. I guess the way they are generated on the PC side is dramatically different, and I've yet to see anything reaching that level of complexity on the pc side, hence I'd like to explore the possibility. Would that work, or do I need to shut down > windows completely? Well, we don't *bail out of Windows* - we run Fractint under OS/2, where we don't have this problem in the first place . But, yes, under W95, we needed to shutdown to a DOS prompt, not simply open one up. I think this is due to the fact that even when're you're running a full-screen DOS window under W95, the W95 display driver has still stored some status (or other) info about the state of the display adaptor. I think Fractint alters the actual state of the adaptor enough that W95's info isn't valid anymore. I suspect Fractint would run fine under W95 when set to a disk-video mode, but that takes away the interactive zooming which is so much fun when looking around for interesting areas. Does anyone know of a complete listing of sstools.ini "keywords?" It would be great to see a "demo" sstools.ini... file posted here on the list that contained the maximum all encompassing list of commands for [fractint] ...and... [partobat] I'm guessing someone might have one handy? I'd particularly like to be able to tell partobat to save images to a specified directory. I'd also be interested to know if it's possible to tell partobat to "not save" [ i.e. just generate...skip the save...and move on to the next image etc...etc... as if a slide show....but not saving the images to gif. P.S. Thanks Les....for the continued posting of montly collections.
