Dave Krupla, formerly of Ohio, currently in Indianapolis, Indiana. I joined up in '95, I think. I check in and read all my mail on this account about once a month normally. One of the recent list posts mentioned Ideas for Artwork. I have one, but I have absolutely no artistic ability. Last Fall, while driving back to Indy from my parents' place in Ohio, I saw a beautiful site in the sky. It was in the late afternoon/early evening hours, and in a patch of blue sky there was a purplish cloud. I wish I had my camera with me because it had the almost perfect appearance of the man with the bowler hat from our beloved symbol. All it needed was the circle and the bar and it would have been perfect. That image would make a good album cover. Although I would personally alter it to be a view of a cloud in the morning, as in the Rising Hat. ===== "With the rhythm of youth you have nothing to lose. Date: 08 Apr 2001 00:37:26 -0700 (PDT) ..wondering if we'll get a chance to hear some of these tracks? :) [from Canoe article 1997] So what has former Men Without Hats leader Ivan been up to since his band faded from public view? Plenty, although, until his recent techno-dance-oriented album The Spell, most of it remained unheard. After Men Without Hats' guitar-filled Sideways album, they quickly recorded a follow-up, which was never released. Then Ivan recorded another album with vocals by Kim Bingham (now recording as Mudgirl and performing on Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair tour). It, too, was never released. He then did a techno project called UFOs Are Real, which never saw the light of day. Next, he did a French grunge record. Then he did a French jazz record. They remained in the can, too. "This was all stuff I recorded or demoed or had been working on. I was just writing away, and I looked in my head and five years had gone by," says Ivan, who performs at The Ex's Koolfest concert tonight at the Civic Centre. "I thought I better get something out there. (The Spell) is the first one I felt was right for the moment." __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? (And northern ones, if any care to join us!) I'm so busy with work, plus Sebastien and I just bought a new house so things have been kind of hectic around here. Anyway I thought north or eastern Georgia would be a good central location for us. Or western S.C.... But I have never been to either of those places, so I don't know a good place where we could all meet. It would be nice if we could go to a city that has a place or two with an 80's atmosphere. Jacksonville has a large 80's culture now, thanks to a new radio station that plays nothing but 80's Top 40/New Wave/Techno/Dance/Metal (all the good stuff). Now all the clubs are getting on the bandwagon and they're having 80's retro nights. Plus 80's bands like the Psychedelic Furs, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Poison, and a bunch of others are beginning to include Jacksonville on their tours --- I don't know if other Southern cities have followed suit (maybe Atlanta or Columbia?). Southerners, just send me your suggestions and we'll see if we can pull this thing together. :) Angie Sent by Law Mail # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info hats" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email hats@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Men Without Hats discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?hats ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: goreal Subject: (hats) PGTW DJ mix? A local station in Raleigh has "The Retro Hut of Love" every Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. (makes me almost glad to be stuck in rush hour!), and another station has "the 80s at 8" where they play like 5 or 6 songs from the 80s each weekday night at 8. Raleigh has a new station (102.9 if you're passing thru) that plays all 80s, and Greensboro has one as well (94.1). The 80s are still alive and well in North Carolina, that's for sure! Honestly, I'd love to go (and I would if I were still single...), but with work and family life like it is for me these days, I don't think that traveling anywhere is in the cards for me. Traveling to Fort Walton Beach/Destin for Easter (my parents/grandparents live there, and it's where I grew up) is hard enough! However -- if you want to meet in Atlanta (which really *is* Hotlanta these days [or Pollenlanta]), then I'd be glad to meet up with everybody. If I were you, I'd prefer the mountains, too! Otherwise, I'll look forward to the pictures!
