The Sci-Fi Channel had a miniseries or somesuch based on Universal Soldier. The main characters were at a corporate party or dance club or something somewhere in Canada. I wasn't watching too closely, but I do know they said they were in Canada. I had it on mainly because I wasn't near the remote, and was thinking about getting up to get it when they started playing an Ivan song. They played a good chunk of it, a minute or two even. And for the life of me, I can't remember it's name. "Fly," I think. Dang, must listen to The Spell when I get home. Dave K ===== "With the rhythm of youth you have nothing to lose. Oooooh! Good one, Matt! My favorite carol is "The Carol of the Bells." I know most often people don't do the words, but I could see Ivan doing a GREAT synth version. (I mean, if Trans Siberian Orchestra can do it with electric guitars and have it work...) Another goodie would be "Angels We Have Heard On High" - the glo -oo -oo -oo -oo -oooo -oo -oo -oo -oo -oooo -oo -oo -oo -oo -oor -ria part would be really KEWL to have Ivan do. I'll give the folks at MTV some credit, at least they got the video credits right, which is more than I can say for VH-1 (who puts the album Safety-Dance is on as "Backstreet"...not knowing that Backstreet was the Hats' label for that album [a subsidary of MCA... whereas FOTE3 was a full MCA release], maybe they were listening to too much Hootie? [yes I am a nitpicker]) They were around 1984 when I stopped watching (have other things to do than watch MTV on Xmas day, just happened to catch it) and they showed other videos, but only Madonna's "Borderline", The Cars "You Might Think", and Wham's "Wake Me Up" (one 80s video I can do without along with John Waite's "Missing You") were played in their entirety (there were probably others, but I didn't watch long enough.) The other videos they showed were more in a "Medley" format: Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" (cut this one up badly), Def Leppard's "Photograph", Depeche Mode's "People Are People", Prince's "When The Doves Cry" (Prince deserves an entire show featuring nothing but his videos, he had some interesting ones from early on, like the synth-funk "Controversy"), Billy Idol's "White Wedding" (better than "Eyes Without A Face" IMO), and of course Twisted Sister's "We're not gonna take it" (the video remains a classic.) I know I must be getting old when my favorite songs are only shown in "Medley" format. :-P And I thought that hideous practice was something only "Moldy" Oldies groups/stations did. If VH1/MTV would put these videos into constant rotation (meaning not one 80s classic [not just the top 40, but 'everything' except John Waite and NKOTB] every three years admist billions of Micheal Bolton/Limp Bizkit/Backstreet Boys videos) then they might actually attract some viewers. My Idea: Have a station called M3E (MTV 3 - Eighties) and dedicate it solely to nothing but the golden years of new wave/alternative (1977 - 1990) and bring back stuff like "Headbangers Ball" (for the metal/hair bands), Post-Modern MTV (for the syn-pop), and 120 minutes (for the modern rock.) I'm tempted to include something for rap, since the 80s were the last gasp before gangsta jamz. No game shows ("Remote Control" was nice yes, but one game show will leads to hundreds of others.) BTW: The VJ called "Safety Dance" one of the greatest and ahead of its time. I'm sure many of us here could agree with that one. Happy Holidays everyone! Chris (A gen-x'er who grew up in the 80s and enjoys stuff like: Berlin - Sex (I'm A...) Bruce Cockburn - If I Had A Rocket Launcher (yes there was a video for this) Cyndi Lauper's - Hole in My Heart (that goes all the way to China) - although I seem to be the only one who remembers this song. Thompson Twins - Lies (Lies Lies Yeah) Missing Persons - Words (what are words for...) Slade - Run Run Away (see the Chameleon, lying there in the sun) New Order - Bizzare Love Triangle (everytime I see you falling, I get down on my knees and pray) Alan Parsons Project - Don't answer me (nominated for best video award in 1984) B52s - Private Idaho (Rock Lobster was 1979, and this still beats the pants off of "Love Shack") Rational Youth - Saturdays in Silesia Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart (a classic) General Public - Tenderness ---and of course Men Without Hats ;)) -- steps off soap box -- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? No such luck. Hopefully it shows up on the "Vibes" DVD like her video for Goonies did. Oh well, at least my VHS copy is fairly decent. :-) That DVD compilation is an amazing collection of videos though! I kind of thought Cyndi faded out of the biz but she has actually created some really nice stuff lately. "The World Is Stone" and "Sally's Pigeons" are truly beautiful videos and show Cyndi's song writing has definitely matured.
