Much, Much better than sideways. I really like his new solo album and I am so glad he got away from the grudge sideways sound. Open you eyes and 1972 are great songs along with a few others. The rap song pretty much sucks though and I dont know why it is even on the album. I know alot of folks really didn't like the new IVAN album. I guess it is a little more techno/dance added into it. I use to listen to alot of techno/trance music also so maybe that is why I like it. I am so glad though that he changed the style of his music from his last album (Sideways) If you have not gotten it yet I would recommend getting it. I bought mine from www.cdnow.com It would be cool if he redid safety dance to his new electronic style sounding music. I love the safety dance version that Ivan did on bootleg 8 - I just wish we had a better recording of it. BTW I have alot more bootlegs left if anybody wants them. I was getting sick of making one or two at a time so I went ahead and made like 10 of each of them so I can just mail them out. If anybody wants anymore of the bootlegs let me know. My web page can be found at www.holdman.com/mwh for track listings of the songs on these cds. -Richard # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info hats" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email hats@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Men Without Hats discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?hats ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Subject: (hats) Via Rail train. I first read about MiniDiscs in 1992 and have never ceased to be amazed by how slow America has been (and continues to be) about embracing this format. For those of you who think you need a PeeCee or a Mac to have tight, seamless, and professional-quality digital editing of audio material, you've got a lot to learn if you don't know about MiniDisc! The guy who is remastering the CDs is VERY busy. I am going to tell you all why we need to wait on him though. 1. I do have the original CDs here. I have made duplicates and sent them to another listmember as a backup, just in case. So there is no dire need to rush them out. They won't go anywhere. 2. This guy is using a studio and sound engineer to remaster the CDs I don't think we can do any better than this. Why do the CDs need remastering? These CD concerts have no post-production done to them whatsoever. These are RAW soundboard concert recordings. This means that the CD must be EQed. The sound is very clean, but it is also VERY Midrange heavy. The highs are there, but they need to be boosted with a digital EQ (no loss in quality). This is a must. Also the mids need to be turned down. There is also some dropouts on the tape. This CD will still be from the second generation DAT. Digital -> Digital -> digital so we won't be messing up the recording in any way. The sound guy is by NO means going to do any dehissing or anything like that. We aren't going to screw up the sound in any way. I am just worried that if we stick this CD on Richard's site today. Then people will be satisfied with the sound quality and just assume that it sounds like that on stage, which it doesn't. The pots on the board are adjusted for stage and not CD understand? The sound quality is going to be around the same quality as the Toronto CFNY show. There is occasionally even less hiss than that at times. Other times there is more hiss. I think this 1984 tape deck was adjusted either too high or too low (hiss) at times during the show. But I am told by "someone" that this is one of the best soundboard recording he's heard from an analog cassette from this long ago. :0 Well, What do you all think........ Should we do a downloadable version 1 of the CDs for the time being, or wait for the remastered ones, which will sound 50% better ?
