Nice stationery, he made his own MWH logo. Except the symbol of the man, he put "copy". I don't know what that means. As we know, Mike lost his job and also his e-mail so he hasn't been on this mailing list. When Dr. Bruce Murphy joined, and posted all those wonderful stories, I thought I'd save them, put them on a diskette and mail it to Mike. Hope that is ok! :) I told Mike about the 2-for1 CD being available except North America and he said he could buy them bulk from the local store and forward them to anyone on this list who wants one. Mike found another job which makes him work 17/18 hour DAYS. Ouch. So he really has a hard time finding time for the bootleg. As for the bootleg Cds, he writes: "I'll concentrate my efforts to trying to get the live and rare stuff out for Christmas, with the "Antarctica" track left off the Oglio compliation included. Guess what's playing right now? Track 3 of "Collection--spooky! Please give my apologies to everyone 'bout the delay but as you can appreciate the first few months of a new company are hectic (understatement) but I am now in th eprocess of upgrading my home studio so that I can complete the whole mastering process myself-- direct from everyone's tapes/cds to my mac digitally and then remixed etc straight to recordable cd. Should be fun, but as I've said, it takes time-- which is a very scarce commodity for me at the minute. Maybe I should have a holidat in my studio and do nothing but MWH stuff! Sounds tempting but I can't turn down work--understand my situation???" I also told him about the video bootleg.... "The video--sounds as though it could be brilliant. Where do I order my UK version from?" He also added a few things he wanted me to pass on to a few mailing list members: "Tell Laura that a surprise uk video is in the post featuring a certain 'doctor who offspring type person'. She'll understand! sorry to be asking you to do all these things, but it'll only take one e-mail....I feel though I'm almost part of the list again! Oh yeah, mention a 'hello' to Lars in Norway, and I hope his new job is going well :-)) Anyway, gotta go and do some work :-( but as the miami dolphins aren't, that shouldn't stop me. (poor Tony, kidnapped again...) thanks again for the disk, it's much appreciated and actually amde me smile for the first time in ages. Mikey" So there's the update!!! I thought someone else did for the "Collection" > Cd. I'd love to know how remastering is done. Could you enlighten me? :) > There is a big difference between "mastering" and "REmastering." We only master for our compilations. Remastering implies that you go back to the original multitrack masters and mix a new two track master for each song. This is typically done by the band or by producers, etc as it involved many creative decisions. After remastering is done then the process of mastering begins. Mastering is the process of collecting the best available two track mixed song masters, eq-ing and sequencing them for use in manufacturing. Hope this helps! I've a friend who uses a dual-PeeCee setup in his home as a recording/ mastering "lab" (I guess one could call it that, anyway.). He uses a software package called Sound Forge to clean up his old homemade cassette recordings. He says it is designed to eliminate things such as vinyl surface noises, turntable rumble and tape hiss. Do you not employ similar stuff when you master something for CD release from a source such as vinyl? And there were _lots_ of A-ha-effects for me, too. There _is_ a Video to "I like". One for "21st Century". One for "Where do the Boys go?" Cool. And then the live show. Wow! I always thought of MwH being of some kind of technical, cool stage act like, say, Depeche Mode or Human League. They're not! They're a real rocker on stage. And for me, being on the wrong side of the pool, there were lots of surprises too: So, this is "Heaven". This is "Security".
