I went to the HMV on Oxford ("the Big One" I'm told, as there were several. Across from Marks and Spencers) and they had several copied of ST and one copy of Space. As I was slightly rushed while the wife shopped at M&S I quickly scanned the ST and did not notice any clear errors such as misspellings and the like but I would really need to compare with my original. There were two copied of ST in um, Sister Ray I think. One of the shops on Berwick any way. didn't find a copy of the bootleg Live cd as I was hoping, nor did I find a Last Train bootleg 12" that surfaced a while back that I never got around to ordering. -paul Currently in rotation: Anne Dudley - a different light; Pet Shop Boys - Closer to Heaven; Enigma - Remix Album; High Fidelity - Omnichord Album # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: laerm Subject: (klf) more with ricardo Date: 05 Nov 2001 16:50:32 -0500 (EST) apparently he did a track with fire island back in '91... i found the mp3, it's pretty dull, but if any of you really feel a need to hear it, i could upload it to my server. micah stupak /"\ don't be alarmed laerm soulfood.org \ / it will not harm you international bright young kook X it's only me pursuing ascii ribbon campaign / \ something i'm not sure of against html email # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "RMStringer" Subject: (klf) MORESSOUNDS FTP Date: 05 Nov 2001 23:03:58 -0600 I saw the postings on the server about Steinberg mastering and DX pluggins...I have a bunch of those pluggins....about 23 of them...Contact me and maybe we can work up a trade. Also note the Crapola motto: "always a surreal thing" - very similar to Coca-cola's "always the real thing". Maybe there's some legal wrangling going on here that we don't know about. Does seem to be more than just idle coincidence. > Maybe there's some legal wrangling going on here that we don't know > about. Maybe Bill didn't get paid for his Coke ad a few years ago? Or maybe it's just a vendetta that doesn't need a rationalisation. After all, Bill & Jimmy chose to 'attack' the Turner Prize Award, and as far as I could ever make out, that was simply because they didn't like it very much, rather than there being any specific legal reason. > That's the only other KLF-Coke connection I'm aware of. My memory is fuzzy on this point, but about three years ago or so, I seem to remember that there were a selection of Jimmy Cauty's artwork pieces available to view online, at some website or other that completely escapes me now. I could just be making this up from completely false memory, but I seem to remember that one of those pieces of artwork made heavy use of the "Coca-Cola" logo. Maybe Bill and Jimmy just fell out over which type of cola drink to have in the studio and that was that. Mark Manning came in with some Dr Pepper and it was all over. The track is from an arcade/Neo Geo/Playstaton/Dreamcast fighting game called the King of Fighters 98: Dream Match Never Ends. The version I am uploading right now is from the aranged version of the game's soundtrack. The reason why I'm uploading it is because it sounds, to me, sort of KLF-ish. Think America, Black Room, that sort of thing. There is also a part where a sample says, "Make some noise! Is it in the discography? No offence, but you are joking, aren't you? "America What Time Is Love" was a bigger hit in the UK than "What Time Is Love" itself. It got to number 4 in the charts, I think. Appears all over the place. Surely any KLF fan is familiar with "America: What Time Is Love"... and the version you're talking about seems to be the version that's on the UK CD single. "Uncensored" is a tongue-in-cheek way of calling something "original mix", really- although it does contain the word "shit" at the end, which is the only potentially offensive word I've ever heard. As for "nearly the same as the original WTIL", listen again. It's got guitars, big heavy drums, massive male choir... Or did I just misunderstand your original post? Also I think the version I've got is more for on the radio as most radio stations don't like playing tracks that are longer than 5 minutes (even then they try and cut a few seconds off!) > As for "nearly the same as the original WTIL", listen again. It's got > guitars, big heavy drums, massive male choir... Well it is nearly the same from the version I've got except a couple of things, 1. the length 2. the extra bits to make up the length 3. the list of states in America 4. the ending bit 5. the longer beginning bit 6. The "Yeah - be free" bit When I first heard this long version of America:WTIL the bit with the listing of states in America reminds me of Bloodhound Gang - Going Nowhere Slow, one verse in this song lists all the place's they've played in America (maybe they were influenced by America:WTIL (Uncensored) but decided to do it a little bit faster (all those states are mentioned in under 30 seconds!) Very neat discography, took me straight to the list of exactly what I was looking for. (Sorry to the people to object to a chunk of text this size being posted.) From it I would say that the mix Darren is familiar with (from the cassette) is actually the rarer version of the two, and the 'mystery version' he has just found is the version commonly found on all the European & Australian CD formats. Interesting. Checking the Discogs, KLF vs Moody Boys (WTIL) came out in Jul= y=20 1990. So Hard was released as a single in Sept 1990. In either case it=20 confirms, unless someone can beat that date with some other group, that the=20 KLF started that trend as well. -paul Currently in rotation: Arthur Baker - Breakin; VA - Sun Records Tribute;=20 Proclaimers - Live in Boston; FGTH - Rage Hard # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Steve Allan" Subject: Re:(klf) Vs Date: 14 Nov 2001 13:52:45 +0000 from lazlo's 808 state discog: MC Tunes vs 808 State: The Only Rhyme That Bites [Jun 1990] single Chart: UK #10. 7": 1990 UK (ZTT/WEA; ZANG 3 / 9031-71670-7) CSS: 1990 UK (ZTT/WEA; ZANG 3 C) 3:41 The Only Rhyme That Bites 3:16 The Only Rhyme That Bytes 7": 1990 DE (ZTT/WEA; ZANG 3 / 9031-71670-7) 3:32 The Only Rhyme That Bites (edit) 3:16 The Only Rhyme That Bytes 12": 1990 UK (ZTT; ZANG 3 T / 9031-71671-0) [times unconfirmed] 12": 1990 UK (ZTT; ZANG 3T SAM {...3(T) A}{...3(T) AA}) [stickered promo] 12": 1990 DE (ZTT; ZANG 3 T / 9031-71671-0) [times unconfirmed] 4:28 The Only Rhyme That Bites 5:04 The Only Rhyme That Bytes (extended version) 12": 1990 DE (ZTT/WEA; 9031-71671-0) 4:17 The Only Rhyme That Bites (extended version) 5:08 The Only Rhyme That Bytes (extended version) CD5: 1990 UK (ZTT; ZANG 3 CD) [spine misprint: "...Only Name That Bites"] CD5: 1990 DE (ZTT; ZANG 3 CD / 9031-71858-2) 3:34 The Only Rhyme That Bites (7" version) 5:08 The Only Rhyme That Bytes (extended version) 4:17 The Only Rhyme That Bites (extended version) VHS: 1990 UK (ZTT/Warner; n/a) [promo; ps(!)] -- The JAMs Are Gonna Tattoo Ya http://www.oldskool.uk.co/ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Mu Mu Land" Subject: RE: (klf) crapola song Date: 14 Nov 2001 15:51:00 +0100 > while i'm almost on the subject, which marilyn manson release had the > scourge remix? Before anyone with short memories asks, Guy Pratt is a prolific sessioneer, has been the bassist for Floyd and 80s Australian hitmeisters Icehouse, and was the other half of Solid Gold Chartbusters with Jimmy. So, I've at down with my original *first issue* copy of Shag Times and my recent bootleg and compiled the following list: 1. Bootleg comes with both LPs in a regular sleeve, whereas original has a "opens up" gatefold double sleeve. 2. Catalogue ID on edge is "JAMS LP 3" on original, "JAMS DLP1" on bootleg. 3. Bootleg has newspaper articles reproduced on one of the inner LP sleeves, whereas original has them reproduced inside the gatefold. 4. Bootleg has no-doubt deliberate error on cover of filling in the right speaker on the pyramid blaster. 5. Fonts are wrong on bootleg. Letters like "S" and "G" are too rounded on the top, and "J" doesn't do a full curl. 6. Back cover of bootleg completely different to original. (Original does not have huge "KLF" logo.) But I believe latter issues of the original changed the back cover anyway. 7. On the LPs themselves, the bootleg has the catalogue ID "JAMSD LP 3 A" etc. produced by machine. Original has text written by hand, often with bits crossed out, and also has the word "ADRENALINE" added. Code is different on original too. eg. "JAMS-LP 3 * A" (* is a scribble.) 8. Bootleg labels have also been retypset and have a black ring on the border, while original has no border. So, side-by-side the differences are many. The covers have been totally retypset (while the magazine clippings appear to have been photographically reproduced), and the LPs have different codes. The only thing I can't comment upon is the sound quality of each recording as I do not own a turntable! Hope that answers all questions, because these items are now being boxed up and sent back to Australia, so I won't have access to them for many months! One of the great benefits of being on this list is the opportunity to meet other enthusiasts and trade for rare KLF releases (my collection is much better now than before discovering this). However, one item seemingly eludes us all--The Black Room. According to the recent article on Klf.de, the entire album was recorded, but only two tracks were mixed. Thus the decision to release this final work in final form rests squarely in the hands of Mr. Cauty and Mr. Drummond. I don't know if anyone, even Drummond and Cauty know why they quit right when they did. But some comments made by Drummond in his book 45 as well as other comments by Black Room mixer M. Stent give the impression that this album could have been not only their greatest work, but a work that could have propelled the KLF further into the stratosphere of pop superstardom. If you consider the music atmosphere of 1992, an album like the Black Room would have fit neatly between the disparate grunge and dance movements, making later bands like Limp Bizkit completely redundant. Perhaps this is what Drummond was afraid of. Mid next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the KLF implosion. Perhaps this would be a great opportunity for the KLF to share their last work with the enthusiasts who have supported them over the years by purchasing Cauty's remixes, Drummond's side projects and books, and the handful of KLF releases still available on the US market. The question is, what as a list may we do to entice Cauty and Drummond to share this final record with us, a small, nearly private audience? Start a petition, or perhaps offer fund the release ourselves? Sign bizarre, MU-esque documents promising not to share the record in any way with outside members? Sponsor a mass Brittney Spears CD burning for the Summer Solstice? What can we do to make the Black Room a reality? I look forward to hearing the lists thoughts. I would also be willing to participate in any effort that the list devises. -- Dan T. In particular the opening two to three minutes of the 'original' mix sound *very* like "Philler #4", the B-side of the "I Wanna 1-2-1 With You" single, without the phone souds obviously. All that can be found inside - except the CD of course - is a small "press sheet" with some lines about the numbers of bootlegs appearing in the last years, and that the KLF wants to put a stop on this. The complete text can be read on the original scan from Mixmag. I´ll post the text later this weekend. The CD itself looks alot like the White Room Original Soundtrack bootleg, a blue (instead of black) T-Speaker on white ground. --- Distribution So far, the only confirmed sightings of the Live On Stage CD are - Mixmag - Muzik - MinistryOfSound.com NME and many other online music mags posted some infos about it, but most of them don´t seem to got an original CD themselves. --- Sound Reviews on five of the tracks can be found on www.klf.de Further reviews will follow in December. KLF Online was able to get hold of 9 tracks so far, unfortunately in 128 kbps. KLF Online has no "official" statement on the CD yet, but personally (!) I think that this has nothing to do with Bill or Jimmy whatsoever, but whoever is behind the Live On Stage - he knows his KLF stuff quite well. Most of them are fairly sane, do really miss the days when new stuff was coming out and look forward to the rare outside chance of some of the old recordings suddenly appearing in a vault somewhere. However a surprising number have taken to trying to be KLF lookalikes, with varying degrees of success. The Kompetition, last year, was a fun little convention where a bunch of people dressed up as them. But some people do seem intent on taking it more seriously. Importantly though, no amount of dressing up as them or even throwing knickers at them is going to *persuade* them back into the limelight- in fact I'd see it as dissuasive. The many years-long scrabbling hunt for the "Black Room"... if Bill and Jimmy knew the extent of the desperation (and they possibly do) I think they'd laugh... This new "Live On Stage" disc is such a good lookalike that even some of the music press has taken to speculating whether it could be the real one (something which has happened to Elvis impersonators far more than once). Good impersonation it is, but really Bill and Jimmy, I don't think so. Watch the skies! Thankyouverymuch.
