They are all cover versions of What time is Love, released in Europe without B&Js permission. This is apparrently quite a common practice in some parts of Europe, when DJs are trying to get hold of tracks where only a few promo copies exist, someone presses a few 'imitations' that are sold to DJs at inflated prices, often with lyrics added if the track is an instrumental, but always in a limited quantity to avoid being noticed by the real authors. As two of the tracks share additional lyrics, I suspect one of the is a bootleg of a bootleg, a secong generation rip-off! Incidentally, this bootlegging process happened to Gat Decor's "Passion", and the bootleg proved so popular that the illegal version with overdubbed lyrics stolen from the master tape of a totally different track was licenced back by the original redord company for a very successful 're-issue'. In the time between the original "Pure trance" version coming out and the Stadium house version, all the 'other artist' tracks on the "What time is love story" were made to fill this sort of demand, and this compilation with B&Js names credit as authors (which I supect the vinyl bootlegs didnt do!) was their way of getting some money out of the bootlegs! The album was reported by the NME initially as being titled "Now thats what I call What time is Love" until a legal threat from the producers of the massivley successful "Now thats What I Call Music" collections. My vinyl and CD copies came with a "Now thats what I call What time is Love" sticker. There were also claims by journalists at the time of release that all the versions were actually made by B&J to mythologise the original... - - andy R. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info klf" in the message. # Postings must go to klf@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 23:38:22 +0100 (MET) From: erik Subject: (klf) Crisis Site Updated Wooohooo!
