Those cases are very hard to find for sale, except in bulk for people putting out their own albums. If you can't get another copy of Expo 2000 quickly where you are, you can always travel down to a store and pick up Tool's AEnima. It has the same type of case. It's not always about being a fanatic, you know... Supply & demand, it's as simple as that. Besides, there is no reason to look down on people who are focused on something harmless like collecting something. Even though you may think spending money on, say, Madonna posters is a complete waste, it surely is not a complete waste to the person who collects them. To each his own, eh? On the other hand I would not=20 spend big money on a colored vinyl that does not originate from ideas from Kling Klang, but instead on what a press operator in a record factory thinks to put in the press. I bought the two for $30 together, and although they're nice to have, they're not the original ones, rest assured. There don't seem to be a shortage of them either - you can find them at almost any shop carrying Kraftwerk vinyls, at least around here. Do you know which tv-station or if not where we can look?" I have never heard of such a video (I have only seen the animated one). Does it exist?? Hello, I can only think of one example of this sort of thing, and that would be the "Tommorows World on the BBC" version of it. It has been made by french TV company LaSept on the occasion of the release of "The Mix". It was part of a nine-minute feature on Kraftwerk including an interview with Ralf in Kling Klang Studio. His voice came through a harmonizer while the robot was showed. It aired in "Megamix" on ARTE TV on Feb. 9, 1993. Things cannot be much fun for Kraftwerk fans at the moment - not only is there little hint of a new release, but there is no "official" source of kraftwerk information - only emimusic.de and kraftwerk.de/com. Are there any insiders with knowledge of an imminent record? They must be due a new LP by now, after the release of three singles in the last 2 years. Not to mention the new songs that they premiered in performances in recent years. Also, this Astralwerks release confuses me. It's the 9 mixes of expo 2000 on the same CD (we must be sick of mentioning this song by now). Surely it is too long to be called a single??? And it is longer than any record KW have ever released, with the exception of The Mix. Can anyone explain what they are calling this astralwerks release?? cheers Rob. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? When I listen to Giorgio's album, I think it sounds technically brilliant, with metallic beats and sound quality that Kraftwerk's album does not quite match. Both albums are from the same year, but Giorgio seemed ahead of the game in terms of the technology available. TEE is sublime and beautiful, but not quite as "cutting edge". Rick, thanks for bringing this topic back to discussion. I agree with you completely. You know, a while back, both John Shilcock and myself, sort of talked about something along those lines on the list. He actually mentioned something about finding similarities between Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" intro with Kraftwerk's "Metropolis", and I took it a step further, bringing FHTE's sounds to the table. Unfortunately it was a short lived topic. Neither John or myself got the reaction, response, answer we were looking for. So here we are now, the three of us, 24 years later still looking for an answer... > When I listen to Giorgio's album, I think it sounds technically brilliant, > with metallic beats and sound quality that Kraftwerk's album does > not quite match [...] IMHO, Kraftwerk does manage to match those rich sounds and trancey moods a year later on "The Man Machine" and after that (much more evident, actually) on "Computer World". Also agree about "The Man Machine". I think Metropolis has a slightly more subtle rhythm intro when compared with I Feel Love and Utopia - Me Giorgio. But the technical standard is similar. Giorgio was perhaps even more obssessed with sounding futuristic than Kraftwerk...I think the technical term is "more banging" :) Thanks Enrique, anyone else? It does NOT, imho. FHTE is not a bad album, esp. in view of it's sound design, but in contrast to TEE there's no real concept, no idea. The cover pic is strongly suggestive of an ice bar waiter, and musically it's also a poor thing - simple diatonicism based on broken triads. It is music made for the hit parade, which is okay, but it's not the art concept Kraftwerk intended to be. > Both > albums are from the same year, but Giorgio seemed ahead of the game in terms > of the technology available. However, FHTE is a Disco record, and there are no art concepts (that I am aware of) concerned with that genre. The album is a classic of it's genre. From Here to Eternity is from 1977, so there were quite a lot of synthesizers available by then. On the sleeve Robby Wedel is specifically credited for Moog programming, and I vaguely remember Giorgo in a video clip playing a modular Moog. Moog also had analogue sequencers in those days, which are quite dominantly present on FHTE. By 1977 Kraftwerk had acquired the Synthanorma sequencer, from Matten&Wiechers, featured in an article here from Dirk Matten recently. While I really like FHTE as a groovy album, TEE I find far more diverse and subtle. I don't think many people can match sequencer-based tracks like Europe Endless even today. At least, I don't get to hear them like that. "I feel love" is from 1977, and has a similar groove as Kraftwerk's Metropolis from 1978. Those "grooves" were/are made with sequencers, a lot of patience, taste and skill. I know only a few artists who do this very well, besides Moroder and Kraftwerk. Patrick Cowley springs to mind, who did work for the tasteful act of "Divine". Although Divine was visually a little less pleasing, the music was very "groove"-y! I'm sure some more music theory knowledgeable people than me can explain how little sequences controlling a bass synthesizer become so exciting... Kevin? Ah, I also have a CD-single remix of "I Feel Love" by Patrick Cowley. It's a small world. Find it on any search engine, like www.google.com LAME consistently produces high quality results. Perhaps not as user-friendly, but once you get used to it there's no turning back. There are GUIs available for LAME as well, making it a snap to use. Stay away from quick encoders, like anything based on the Xing encoder, but also some of the more user-friendly ones, including MusicMatch. The quality of their output is plain lousy when compared to LAME. /Peo # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? In the intervju with Michael Rother on http://www.furious.com/perfect/michaelrother.html he say:

"As a conscientious objector I did my community service in 1971 in a psychiatric hospital and a friend there, who also was a guitar player, invited me one day to join him recording film music with a band named Kraftwerk which I didn’t know at the time. I came along and jammed at this session together with Ralf Hütter and a drummer (I believe his name was Charly Weiß). Florian Schneider and Klaus Dinger were present as listeners and everybody liked the spontaneous music we did together."

Anyone know which film it was and if the music where realeased in any form?

It sticks out like a sore thumb. Red and black are great colours, that's why Kraftwerk adopted them.
