Great piece of music, a hard techno track with massive basses, the beginning sounded to me a bit like "Mummern" from Kraftwerk. However. Now I found an interview with Falco which was taken about one year ago from the austrian magazine "Wiener"(12/96). First a short introduction and then on to more interesting subjects. I belong to the group of faithful lurkers who litter this list (I believe in shutting up when I have nothing to say - n.b.! not to be taken as a kick against regular posters). I=92ve posted nothing more than my first introductory message, but have been an avid listener. I first joined the list in late =9293 or early =9294, can=92t remember, and baile= d out in =9295 or =9296, missed by none, when false planted rumours and persona= l attacks became too frequent (oldies on the list surely remember the episode), and rejoined in =9297, and have noted, with some pleasure, that the temperature (believe it or not, newcomers!) has dropped considerably. Well, let=92s get this over with. name: Tomas Eriksson age: snotty 23 year-old lives in Stockholm, Sweden does: studies Engineering Physics, specialising in Optimisation and Systems Theory, 5th year musical tastes firmly planted in the synth/synthpop/EBM/industrial/new romantic vein, with a touch of post-punk, goth and a bit of "ordinary" pop thrown in for good measure Now on to business. First a question and then a long, slightly off-topic bit. Q:=20 I have a Dutch pressing of TEE (English version, original release), with song titles on the, whatyacallit, round labels on the actual vinyl in German. The A-side of the disc is the ordinary english-language version, but the B-side is the German version, i.e. German vocals. I also have a friend who owns a Dutch pressing of the "Fame" reissue of the same album, with the same "defect". Does anyone has some info on how common this mis-press is? Is it unique to the Dutch editions? I also have an original tape of CW, with English lettering, but with vocals sung in German. This is also Dutch. Raises some questions on just how much quality-control EMI-Holland exert on their products, doesn=92t it? Oh, well, doesn=92t bother me. And, no, I won=92t sell any of the above mentioned. And now over to the long bit (maybe I should have split this message=85 Nah, the delete button is easily reachable on most keyboards). This is something I intended to do when the debate on the relative impact CW had on music was the most intense, but never got round to. But as the flames of intense discussion have since risen again, I guess now is as good a time as any. Well, what is it? I have compiled a list of groups and records made in the years =9277 - =9281, which I would recommend anyone interested in electronic pop (mostly) to lend an ear, and maybe this will help putting CW into perspective, and perhaps even provoke some interest in groups you previously haven=92t listened to.=20 I don=92t claim that all of these recordings are groundbreaking and/or important (although I would say that some of them are) or that I have included all relevant acts/records, but rather that I enjoy them (to a greater or lesser degree), and think that they might serve as an introduction to the electronic pop music made primarily in Europe during the aforementioned period. Many are well known and obvious, others less so. Most are available on CD, some aren=92t.=20 =20 So if you find this sounds remotely interesting, read on. Otherwise hit delete, I will not say anything else of interest. I will not post any further comments about these records now, but am willing to do so, to the list or privately, if anyone's interested. Let me know. Your list is interesting, but it's just a beginning : tons of items are = missing (for instance, why do you start your Cabaret Voltaire list with Red Mecca ? What about their previous albums and singles ?) Should I dive head first into my vinyl collection and fill the gaps ? As for putting the CW debate into perspective : of course, every tangible fact is welcome. Actually, I still have plenty of things to say about that, but am afraid to be viewed as and old jerk who keeps rambling on the same old topic... I also wonder how many list members are really interested in such a debate, and whether the purpose of any music list is really to discuss = and question our own certainties (and all the clich=E9s that can be found= here and there), or rather to simply feel confortable and confident = among the happy few with "good musical taste"... A guy I worked with, who was also a semi-punker and fellow B-52's fan, showed my this article about a group called G.G. Allin & The Toilet Rockers. Reading me the story, the whole G.G. Allin thing was an inside joke for us for years. Then, one day I was in my favorite used record store, going through the E-Z Listening records...and there among the Frank Sinatra records I found the album "Boozin' And Pranks" by G.G. Allin & The Texas Nazis...for $5, I figured I couldn't go wrong. Absolutely awful!! I knew I wanted to find out more. Since then, I've picked up a CD of the same record, as well as the soundtrack from the movie "Hated", and his last album (which was released posthumously) called "Brutality And Bloodshed For All". 2 years ago I had the chance to buy a copy of the very rare "G.G. Allin's Christmas Record", but the $25 for a 45 seemed stiff...later on, I broke down and decided to buy it...but someone beat me to it. Anything from (here goes!) >Squirrel Nut Zippers Never heard of them. >to Judas Priest Screaming For Vengence - the first pre-recorded cassette I ever bought. Still one of my favorites...BTW, have you ever heard Pat Boone's version of You've Got Another Thing Coming? >to the Ventures Another one I like...especially "Walk, Don't Run"...I remember when that came out...'course, I was just a little kid then... >to Elton John I've never been much of an Elton John fan >to Chemical Brothers and Never heard of them >Kraftwerk. Hey, hey, hey...that's why we're here in the first place, isn't it? >I'm also HUGE on the punk scene around here.. I mean this >stuff is hardcore! What other punk do you have? I'm always looking for more groups. I have stuff by: The Victims The Butthole Surfers Nomeansno D.O.A. The Dead Kennedys The Dead Boys The Dead Milkmen The Saints The Vibrators Wendy O. Willams (solo and with The Plasmatics) I can't think of any more right this minute... Then I'll come home and put on a devo record. One of my favorites, although there songs are more hit-and-miss for me, much more so than Kraftwerk, where I like almost every song Kraftwerk has done. Speaking of Devo, I just picked up a promo CD the other day titled "Devo presents music fro Adventures Of The Smart Patrol" (that is a computer game). HEY, there's an idea - how about a Kraftwerk CD-ROM game? That should be possible... How are you for Spike Jones? "Wierd" Al Yankovic? Emerson, Lake & Palmer? Jackie Lomax? Pink Floyd? >Anyway, Later, and maybe someday I'll be able to put in my words >about Krafwerk! Kraftwerk...always timeless. np: Pink Floyd - Echoes _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
