"March 15, 1975 - "Autobahn" Enters The U.S. Charts It came from Germany, but when heard stateside alongside hit singles by Elton John and Olivia Newton-John, Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" seemed to emanate from another galaxy. Recorded entirely with synthesizers, the quartet's ode to the European superhighway had an addictive, otherworldly blankness. Although it peaked at No. 25, "Autobahn" was electronica's first excursion into the meanstream, and Kraftwerk would inspire future knob twiddlers from Afrika Bambaataa to the Chemical Brothers. Also, I remember that Lenny G mentioned something about a fake Kraftwerk marathon on MTV UK ? I have been thinking for a long time that MTV US should have one. I wanted to know if anyone was interested in participating in a mass e-mailing to them. I'm just pretty damn angry that MTV devotes all of its time to having the same old cowntdowns and a special on rap music every fucking week rather than giving half a shit about KW. I made some phone calls recently to Capitol and Elektra US, and I asked them some questions regarding KW. I asked a rep at Capitol if there would be anymore KW reissues anytime soon; particularly mentioning the first three albums and a US version of Autobahn. He said that there isn't anything else besides the recent CD reissues of Radioactivity, T.E.E., and Man Machine that was made part of the Price Busters series. No more vinyl or cassettes either. As for the first three albums, he obviously said that they don't have any rights to these. Apparently, Capitol can't reissue Autobahn either. I mentioned that this would be a good thing since the import is so expensive; he said that despite the fact the EMI holds the license for the rest of the world, Capitol/EMI US doesn't have the rights to it and said that it's a different ballgame over here regarding Autobahn's copyrights. He said that the last time he checked, Polygram owned the rights to Autobahn for the US. This doesn't make too much sense to me because the group ended its relationship with Vertigo a long time ago and Vertigo no longer has a US office anymore. That would be the only relationship with Polygram that I could think of. I asked him if EMI Electrola had a web site; he said he wasn't sure, but he gave me their number in Germany along with EMI Publishing. I don't have them right next to me; I will post them as soon as I find them; if you can't wait 'til then, call Capitol yourself (pretend that you are some kind of important figure). As for the publicity department at Elektra, they really didn't seem to know jack shit (or at least the individual whom I spoke with didn't). I asked if they were still representing them in the US, and she said that she believed so. I also asked if there was any new LP or tour in the works, and she said that if there was, I should have known about it by now. Whatever. Try having some fun calling some of your favorite groups' record companies. You'd be suprised at some of the answers that you get. I think they played it also in their concerts in Italy 81. By the way, I hear something about Showroom Dummies in Spanish. Anybody have any information about it? >please excuse my spelling, it might not be correct, but please do let me >know which other language versions of which songs exist and in what format >are they available. also i am not sure about the "Sex Object" being in >spanish, can someone confirm, or correct me. Sex Object exist in Spanish and it's very rare one. It's appear in a limited edition of Electric Cafe printed in Spain. But it appear in a bootleg disc. Just to remeber, this version I'm talking have full lyrics in Spanish. I've this song in MP3 format, yes it exist. Cheers, Priscila. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions? If anybody is=20 interested, the songs with different German lyrics off of Trans Europa=20 Express, Die Mensch Maschine, and Computer Welt fit nicely onto a 90 minute=20 tape. In case you don't know, Radio-Aktivit=E4t is the same recording. If=20 anybody wants me to copy these songs onto cassette, email me privately. P.S. I also have Electric Cafe in German, if anyone cares. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info kraftwerk" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email kraftwerk@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Other questions?
