Barnhill" Subject: (kw) CD Discography. Werkers, Ok, there's been some light discussion of what Kraftwerk recordings have been released on the CD format to date, so here's what I was able to come up with based on the discs in my own collection. Bear in mind that I do not claim this list to be complete in any way, so any additions are certainly welcome. I've focused mainly on the USA and European releases. Furthermore, the following list only reflects actual Kraftwerk recordings and does not include the various live bootleg recordings of KW concerts or DJ remix bootlegs that have been made on CD. Now on to the list: Tone Float Kraftwerk's pre-KW album from 1970, released under the band name Organisation. This CD is available as a bootleg only, and contains a bonus track titled "Vor Dem Blauen Bock" which is actually the KW piece also known as "Rueckstoss Gondolero", a piece recorded during the 6 month period in 1971 when the band consisted of only Florian, Michael Rother, & Klaus Dinger. Kraftwerk Kraftwerk's first album from 1970, released as a bootleg on CD by the Germanofon label. Aside from the Germanofon release, there was another bootleg CD of this album (DC 59 CD) that surfaced around 1994 which added a bonus track of "Ruckzuck" recorded live in Cologne, '75. Kraftwerk 2 Kraftwerk's 2nd album from 1972, released as a bootleg on CD by the Germanofon label. Aside from the Germanofon release, there was another bootleg CD of this album (DC 59 CD) that surfaced around 1994 which added a bonus track of "Kometenmelodie" recorded live in Cologne, '75. Ralf & Florian Kraftwerk's 3rd album from 1973, released as a bootleg on CD by Germanofon, containing the wonderful musicomix insert from the original LP. Aside from the Germanofon release, there was another bootleg CD of this album (DC 60 CD) that surfaced around 1994 which reportedly had poorer sound quality than the Germanofon one and did not contain the musicomix insert. Autobahn Released on CD in the USA on the Elektra label (9 25326-2). It's been said that this CD has been discontinued & is now out of print. Sure enough, I haven't seen it anywhere since I purchased my copy back around 1992. The CD of 'Autobahn' is also available in Europe domestically on EMI Electrola Records, (CDP 7 46153 2). Radio-Activity Currently available on CD in the USA on Capitol Records, (CDP 0777 7 46474 2 7). This album was also re-issued by the Cleopatra label back in 1992 (CLEO58752). In addition, the German-titles version of this disc ('Radio-Aktivitaet') is available in Europe domestically on EMI Electrola Records, (0777 7 46132 2 4). Trans-Europe Express Currently available on CD in the USA on Capitol Records, (CDP 0777 7 46473 2 8). This album was also re-issused by the Cleopatra label back in 1993 (CLEO58762). In addition, the German-language version of this disc ('Trans Europa Express') is available in Europe domestically on EMI Electrola Records, (CDP 564-7 46133 2). The Man-Machine Currently available on CD in the USA on Capitol Records, (CDP 0777 7 46039 2 8). This album was also re-issued by the Cleopatra label back in 1993 (CLEO58772). In addition, the German-language version of this disc ('Die Mensch-Maschine') is available in Europe domestically on EMI Electrola Records, (CDP 564-7 46131 2). Computer World Currently available on CD in the USA on the Elektra label, (9 3549-2). The German-language version of this disc ('Computerwelt') is available in Europe & as an import here in the States on EMI Electrola Records (CDP 564 7 46130 2). In addition, a version of this CD was released by Toshiba-EMI in Japan (TOCP-8974) which contains the bonus track "Dentaku". Electric Cafe Currently available on CD in the USA on the Elektra label, (9 25525-2). The German-language version of this disc is available in Europe on EMI Electrola Records (CDP 564 7 46420 2). The Mix Currently available on CD in the USA on the Elektra label, (9 60869-2). The German-language version of this disc is available in Europe on EMI Electrola Records (CDP 1C 568-7 96650 2). The Robots CD single released in May of 1991 prior to the release of 'The Mix'. It was released in the USA on Elektra Records (66526-2), and in the UK on EMI (EMI CDEM192). The German-language version of this single ('Die Roboter') was released in Germany on EMI Electrola (EMI 1c 560-2 04325 2). A promotion-only version of the USA CD was also released (PRCD 8392-2). The CD single contains a shortened version of the album track as well as the "Robotronik" remix. Radioactivity CD single released in November of 1991. The German-language version of the CD was released in Germany on EMI Electrola (1c 560-2 04516 2). The English-language version was released in the UK on EMI (EMI CDEM201). This single contains both the 7" and 12" Francois Kevorkian remixes as well as the William Orbit 12" remix. The Model Retrospective released on CD by the Cleopatra label (CLEO57612). It contains 11 tracks, most of which have been edited by Cleopatra from their original album versions. This disc is intended to be a sort of "best hits" compilation, yet it only contains material spanning 1975-1978, the years that KW recorded on Capitol Records in the USA. Apart from 10 edited versions of album tracks, this compilation also contains "Les Mannquins", the French-language version of 'Showroom Dummies' previously unreleased on CD. Showroom Dummies 5-song CD ep from Cleopatra released at the same time as their 'Model' retrospective. It contains both the edit and extended version of "The Robots", the full versions of "Showroom Dummies" and "Les Mannequins", as well as "Spacelab" as a bonus track. Capitol Years (box set) A limited edition 3-CD box set put out by Cleopatra Records, consisting of the label's 3 Kraftwerk re-issues for 'Radio-Activity', 'Trans-Europe Express', and 'The Man-Machine'. The only thing noteworthy apart from that is that this box set came complete with a 40-page booklet of liner notes. Mailing list sentiment seems to be unanimous that Cleopatra's re-issues have been highly sub-par, and this box set would be no exception. ======================================================================== - -- Scott M. Klaus Zaepke =========================================== ELEKTROLUX RECORDS [New Release] [Fortunato & Montresor - Imagine] We at Elektrolux are extremely proud of having signed Fortunato & Montresor. Garnished with a sexy vocal hook, Fortunato & Montresors "Imagine" received enthusiastic responses of all people that we played the tune to. No wonder: The two Dusseldorf-based producers masterminding Fortunato & Montresor are having their studios in the same house as Kraftwerk. It only seemed logical that the nearness to the source of electronic popmusic would get perpetuated in a remix on the CD-versoin of "Can you imagine". For the "Robot Mix", one line of the legendare Kraftwerk tune "Pocket Calculator" was used. Naturally, Kraftwerk really enjoyed the track and cleared the sample right away, which means that Fortunato & Montresor could be regarded as the first producers to use a cleared Kraftwerk sample in one of their tracks. A true classic!!
