Hmm, I see they didn't take any chance with the remixes... All are very dance floor oriented....again... Where is the time that Moby did the best remixes himself? The Tiesto remix should be good though, I liked the trance remixes of the Play singles even though I'm not into the genre that much. I wish there would be some "difficult" remixes again. Like a heavy ambient version or so, and that the UK didn't have those STUPID chart rules. Mute should sign some other money-making artist and put out some undergound Moby shit :) And now for some immaginary remixes: (that means the following tracks are only in my twisted little mind, no chance of them ever being made!) We Are All Made Of Stars (Air 'Watch The Stars' Version) We Are All Made Of Stars (Cappella CCQT Edit) We Are All Made Of Stars (Moby's Tranquility Ambient Mix) We Are All Made Of Stars (Moby's Uplifting Dance Mix) We Are All Made Of Stars (Ratty's Mix) Oh, by the way, did you guys catch this? http://www.thetributeto.com/stringmoby Hmm, a violin and a chello playing over a midi track... Expected more from it. They even spelled "Novio" as "Novia". They don't provide a preview for the tracks that have the best string potential like Hymn, Everloving and Everything Is Wrong. I wonder where they got the last tracks title "Holiday Rush". The single is the first to be taken from the much anticipated forthcoming album "18", which is set for release in May. The video is directed by the award-winning Joseph Kahn, whose credits include Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys, U2, Garbage and Wu Tang Clan. Mos= t recently he's been responsible for Enrique Iglesias' 'Hero' and George Michael's notorious, and unprecedented, 'Freek'. Moby has worked with Josep= h Khan once before - on the award-winning video for 'Southside', which also featured Gwen Stefani. The 'We Are All Made Of Stars' promo sees Moby donning a Spacesuit and assuming the guise of a somewhat distant and removed Spaceman who has come down to earth. He lands in LA and observes Hollywood Babylon, but in its most banal and cinematic moments. As Moby puts it, "it might sound odd, but Joseph Kahn is an amazing director". Filmed on location in Hollywood, Santa Monica and Sunset and Vine, Spaceman Moby is joined by myriad familiar faces on his adventure. These include: Tommy Lee, Thora Birch, Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction/Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Corey Feldman, Vern Troyer (aka-mini me), Angelyne, Ron Jeremy, Dominique Swain, and Kato Kaelin - plus Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges from 80=92s TV show Diff'rent Strokes. ------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to majordomo@xmission.com with the line "unsubscribe mobility" in the body. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: scott stoddard Subject: (mobility) Maybe they got shot down by our own fighters? Date: 08 Mar 2002 23:01:46 -0800 (PST) About the whole plane mystery. I am quite confused by the pictures and hesitant to believe that an airplane of that size hit the pentagon. Maybe they were hit by a truck bomb, and used it to cover up one of the missing planes. The only two possibilities that I can think of are: 1. The terrorists took the planes back to the middle east 2. After the attacks on the world trade center, the us department of defense deemed it necessary to shoot down the other hijacked planes as the passengers would die either way, but by shooting them down could save potential targets from destruction. This might explain the pennsylvania plane as well. Just some thoughts, I don't really get into this kind of stuff, and I don't know much about what happens to a plane when it collides witha building, but I don't think they vaporize if they weren't hitting with enough force to do more damge than that to the pentagon. but I couldn't get it out of my head when I was driving around today. I'll probably never be able to join the secret service after posting this. Oh well. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! Great. I've been pulling out all my old Moby records and listening to them. I just got my turntables set up after a two year break. Either I've refined my tastes, or Moby's old stuff is aging rapidly and needs to be left behind. The Hymn remixes still sound great, especially Dirty Hypo and Lucky Orgasm. Dog Heaven is still a nice sublime little record, and the remixes he did for Pet Shop Boys and The B-52s still sound good. The Instinct material has a simple basic elegance, but they bore me very quickly now, especially Rock The House, Drop A Beat, and UHF. I used to find Moby's Trophy stuff to be minimal and somewhat boring, but it's that stuff that I like hearing now. It still sounds fresh. Anyhow, I'm stashing the old Moby stuff back away and waiting for the new album. I was thinking that perhaps there was a problem with the original second episode, and so the Olympics episode became the second episode. Perhaps, and hopefully, we'll see the Basement Jaxx video and the Find My Baby video in an upcoming episode. Check out the ftp for soem Moby stuff the next few days. Don't mail me if you can't connect, that just means the max number of users has been reached, try again later. Short comments about the new stuff I have: We are all made of stars: =================== Never heard Moby this way, someone already described it as a combination of the Play Sound and The Animal Rights sound. I think that was a good description of the sound. It's kind of like "Sexy Boy" by Air versus the guitar pieces of "That's When I Reach For My Revolver", very cool track! That guitar melody really gets stuck in your head :) We are all made of stars (Tiesto Vocal Remix): =================================== A great Tiesto-style trance rework of the original. Tiesto even included the heavy filtered guitar melody :) Landing: ======= The version on my ftp doesn't seem to be complete, any ideas why this is? Otherwise, I'm speachless, what a great track! I already like it more than We Are All Made Of Stars! It's a nice downtempo Moloko/Mono-style of triphop tune with very addictive synths and heavenly strings. Got to hear this one yourself to understand. :) By the way, I know this voice from somewhere, anybody got any idea who could this could be? Perhaps even Sophie Ellis Bextor, I wouldn't be surprised. Soul Of Love: ========== Remember the remixes Moby did for Brian Eno's Fractal Zoom in 1992? Downloaded them all this evening, finishing up the Tiesto remix as I type then I'll be out. All I can say is if anyone questioned if we were getting "Play Part 2" "We Are All Made Of Stars" at least gives a resounding NO as the answer. I know it's just one track but there was nothing like this on "Play". So far I'm a little more fond of the B-Sides and the Angie Stone track though. Again a giant THANK YOU, geez between having this, the new Pet Shop Boys CD a few months before release and others, the days of picking something up at the CD store on day of release not having heard it are disappearing. Of course I'll still be there release day but when these circulate on the Net, the temptation is just too damn great and I can't resist. Nobody's getting blocked, and besides, it wasn't even you who made those idle connections :) I now configured my server to close the connection after being idle (means no up or downloading) for 60 seconds. You should be able to get in. The reason you couldn't re-connect probably was because the server was full, there are only 6 simultaneous connections allowed for the Mobility account. I'd never known it to do that. It's possessed. As for the singles, I'm in agreement with what's been said. I love the sound on We Are All... The Animal Rights allusions make perfect sense, and I think it's really interesting to hear the same aural qualities but with completely different emotions. Landing is my favorite. What I said on the boards about it was.. i thought was great [...] very sexy, late night music. like the kind of music i'd want to hear in a movie by the latest hip young director in a scene where two people are outside, 2 in the morning, kissing while standing, while cars drive by quickly and they're oblivious to it all. i really really Landing. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Date: 19 Mar 2002 13:45:49 +0000 i reckon 'Stars' sounds like a cross between non-gwen Southside and Bowie's 'Always Crashing in the Same Car' (from 'Low'). In fact it reminds me alot of Bowie's Berlin era stuff. Quite detached, melodically sparse, but very textural. Can hear the Air comparison, although I don't think Moby is quite as ironic as the Air boys, and '10,000 Hz Legend' was a bit too ironic prog rock at times. Here's an interesting thing though, at least something which Mark will understand. Apparently the management have ruled that I'm not allowed to hear the album before its released! So from from official Mute biographer to public enemy number one in one small step and an unofficial book. Or to put it another way, from being one of the only UL journalists/ editors to still support Moby through his unpopular times, from being the first editor to put him on the cover of a non dance UK mag during the Play campaign, to being an enemy of the Moby industry. God that book must have upset somebody. maybe its because it sold to loads of fans who knew nothing of his life before play and subsequently went out and bought up older albums. Or maybe its because I know too much and they know what I left out of te book and are scared that it might surface in a magazine feature, which they'll have less legal control over! Love the new single though and can't wait to download the album!!! laters Martin ------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to majordomo@xmission.com with the line "unsubscribe mobility" in the body. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Bart van Eijck" Subject: Re: (mobility) stars... Artist management and record companies can do strange things. It's like because of the fact that they can do little or nothing about the music piracy out there they start to show their power by screwing people who actually support the artist and nicely buy the original sound carrier. What is this world coming to? Picture yourself a vegetable store, some kid steals a carrot, the shopkeeper yells, but doen't take any real action. Then the regular customer from around the block comes in, greets the shopkeeper and orders his regular vegetables. The customer then realises he hasn't brought his wallet and asks the shopkeeper to write it down for him, so he can pay next time. Will the shopkeeper now kick the customers ass and tell him to never come back? Very unlikely... But this is what's happening right here, and it scares me. So, if you can't make it as a gangster, no talent is wasted, become a manager at an artist management or a record comapany, it seems that that job requiers the same skills. And where's Moby in all this? Either he doesn't see it or doesn't want to see what's going on. If I remember correctly Mark once contacted Moby about something quite simular to this case, Moby only evaded the topic. Where is the always so outspoken honest arist I once knew as Moby now? I should probably post this message to moby.com (if it wasn't erased by the admin) Moby tends to read the boards every once in a while. I don't think i would gain much support on the Moby.com boards, I hardly ever visit them, but when I do I always see why I don't go there. I can't believe what these people talk about, it sure isn't related to Moby in any way. >Love the new single though and can't wait to download the album!!! Every one of my posts to the Moby.com boards whilst writing the book were erased, so i don't bother going there any more. They censored me, so I cut them out. ... and where is the anti-censorship, pro-choice Moby in all of this? When an artist becomes so big that the machine around him can represent him in a way that goes against his supposed ethics, then does the machine represent the artist or the commercial concern? Moby the trademark, I think, has little to do with Moby the person any more. His thoughts and feelings play second place to the market place. In fact the guy distributing the vegetables is more powerful than the guy growing them. So much so that he can spray the end result with any kind of pesticide just to increase profit, without the farmer's consent. Which is why we got so any genetically modified versions of Play, and why this next campaign will be equally merciless in its pursuit of global domination for '18' the brand. This is not to knock the creative worth of '18', just the way that small companies like Mute and V2 seem to be hell bent on being more aggressive than the majors. And when they can't kick the big boys asses, they bully the small fish. ------------- To unsubscribe from this list, send mail to majordomo@xmission.com with the line "unsubscribe mobility" in the body. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Bart van Eijck" Subject: Re: (mobility) stars... Moby the trademark, I think, has >little to do with Moby the person any more. His thoughts and feelings play >second place to the market place. You have got a point there. But I cannot immagine that Moby has no idea of what is going on. Hmm, on the other hand, reading his latest updates on Moby.com, Moby tells that he had no idea that other people use his name on tracks, DUH? Ok, not everybody spends as much time on the interweb as I do, but surely, someone must have pointed Moby to some tracks he supposedly made, if it wasn't only to have a laugh... So I'm still asking myself: Is Moby this naive, or is he putting on a good show pretending. I don't know moby personally, so how do I know what is true and what not? >In fact the guy distributing the >vegetables is more powerful than the guy growing them. Not that the powers that be would like me to have actually heard it, and they would be even less happy about non-record company people being able to talk about it but... the thing is, and this also applies to Moby, in a lot of cases the assistant assistants in the record companies haven't heard things either, and they can't stand it when other people have. so they get all adolf hitler on non company types, while telling everyone that they're good friends with the artist and of course have had tapes of the album for eons. the industry is run by small people with egos which need to be supported by lies and cocaine. sadly these small people climb to high positions, yet they remain small. meanwhile the industry is in decline and its the fans that get blamed because they like to download mp3s or whatever. really its because small people with chemically enhanced egos will always make bad decisions. and Moby, like every other artists you know and love, is surrounded by people like this.... go figure ... and if you think moby's managemnt is bad, you wanna try and deal with fucking fatboy slim's people... absolutely impossible arrogance. damn i'm angry today... too many idiots like I just produced a CDRom for Source Records and they couldn't play it on their 1000 year old PCs, so they rejected the job. And I'm elated to hear the Prodigy is still putting out good stuff. Especially since they'll be at the Coachella Festival in a month (will be my first time seeing Bjork, too). My friend happened to be in NYC for the weekend and knows of my love for Moby - so he gave me his. :) I scanned in and made each page a .tif file... I uploaded it to the server (Bart I hope you don't mind... they're small files) for easy access. If you guys do not have access to his server for some reason let me know and I'll try to find another way to get it to you. I'm trying to put it up as a pdf online. :) Enjoy! I was there with Moby and two other girls, we were all sitting down, and he and another girl were ripping up grass and throwing it at each other playing, and I was thinking I wish I was her. That was when the enchantment spell really started. Then we were at a house and I was sitting on the floor watching Moby play piano, it was that classical song from the commercials in the 80's. There was something about the way he was, maybe his intensity or his hands, just something in his being that I got the feeling he had true greatness. Been a fan since a while ago, not sure the exact date, but when I had a vivid dream about Moby. It started by being night in a place full of trees and a big house nearby.
Then it was very beautiful, but became a nightmare, and I don't know why. I can't explain it. I am sorry to say.
I haven't always been the best fan, but I sure dig his music.

First exclusive Moby release I purchased was the "Move" EP from Everybody's Records in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1993. Serious Moby fandom began after witnessing his live show at the Phoenix Plaza Amphitheater on Saturday, September 2, 1995 in Detroit rock city. There.
