This was a follow up miny tour right on the heels of the big orblivion tour. Anyway, right before the show, I remeber LX played an incredible DJ set, much of it mixed with the KLF chillout release. I was wondering if anyone else is familiar with this set, or any other sets he did during this mini tour, or better yet has any of them on tape. I read on this list at the time that many of the DJ sets he did on the mini tour were similar. Anyway listening to the KLF chillout, I started thinking about that set and I remember reading that Alex and Jimmy were working together right prior to the release of chillout and had a big fight and patterson took his samples and cauty took his and each went on their own way, cauty's sample amounting to much of what is on the chillout release and patterson's samples ended up being the 'space' release. So I was thinking it would have been really cool if LX had been spinning his samples back over top of the chillout release of us lucky enough to have caught a glimpse at what the collaboration may have been like. I have never heard the space release and I was not thinking along those lines at the time and maybe I am just nuts, I could be wrong about the specific projects prior to and after the cauty/patterson fight. any words any one???????? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jeff Pitblado Subject: Re: (orb) patterson/cauty fight Date: 01 Jun 2000 19:30:32 -0700 > their own way, cauty's sample amounting to much of what is on the chillout > release and patterson's samples ended up being the 'space' release. Paterson was not involved with Chillout, that was purely a Drummond / Cauty thing. It was Space that Paterson / Cauty were originally woking together on, and when they had a disagreement, patersons samples were removed and it was released as a Cauty solo album on KLF Communications. Any rift between Cauty & Paterson has long since ended. Ummm...I'd imagine that the rumored "break-up" of the Orb at this time has a lot more to do with a lack of income (you know, the album that has been on the shelf for over a year), than with actual conflicts within the band. On a related note; the Orb has always been a bit of a rotating roster of collaborators; even if this split is fractious, the Orb will almost certainly continue to spin... Thanks! -------- BIOGRAPHY: Reflector Reflector: A person or thing that reflects; especially a surface, object, etc. that reflects light, sound, heat or the like, as a piece of glass or metal, highly polished and usually concave, which reflects and directs radient energy as beams of light, soundwaves, etc., in a desired direction. The electronic innovator and creator, Reflector has been making music since his early teens. Now at age twenty-two, the alias "Reflector" has become synonymous with electronic music. It is music with an entirely different sound, shape, and feel than the rest of the crowd. Elements of progressive house, techno and trance are combined to create Reflector's unique style. It's techno but upbeat, not hardcore. It's trance but expressive, not stiff. His first full-length album, Wings, Water, and Light reflects both. "The Wings, Water, and Light project is supposed to be a dramatic approach to electronic music," he says. Fifteen tracks make up the album. The melodies are sometimes hard-hitting, sometimes dreamy, but always unconforming. Reflector's music has many different influences, as well as several varying constituents, one of which being the robotic vocoded voices expertly incorporated into several of his original works. Reflector began composing music, as well as creating it, in what has become his home studio. He bought a keyboard, a sequencer for his computer, and soon was up and running. "At first I was remaking other people's songs and no one seemed to care," he says. "Then I started composing my own stuff, and that was when I started getting a response." His early work was very experimental, receiving some positive response. But at that time his music was difficult to grab. It wasn't until Reflector began collaborating with a producer in San Francisco, that things came together and a style completely his own began to take shape. "Before that, my music was kind of 'anything goes,'" he says. "It was the producer who taught me the ways of songwriting and production." Even though he's conscious of structure, Reflector has always tried to maintain a personal feel with his music. "I try to add emotions to my songs," he says. "I want listeners to feel what I'm feeling, what I was feeling when I composed the song." The majority of Reflector's compositions are the result of his own inspirations, which goes to explain the different, distinctive nature of his sound. It's never just a beat. "That's why a lot of dance music labels are struggling", he says. "They just go off with an eight-beat measure and loop it. They don't actually put themselves into the music." Promoting his music has been hard work. It involved a lot of planning, putting together promotional materials and, of course, playing shows. Reflector has played at clubs, schools, arenas and even coffee shops in the Bay Area. To promote his music, Reflector formed his own record label, Deezzer Records. Hit track "Kid Generator", was the featured trance song on mp3.com in August 1999. His full length album has been featured and reviewed on such popular internet websites Raveworld.net, and Techno Online. Recording new material keeps him busy too. "It's hard work," he says. "People don't realize what goes on behind the scenes to make all this work." Music actually runs in the family. Reflector's mother was a singer and his grandfather was an opera singer. Maybe that's part of why Reflector's music has it's particular feel. "It's not hardcore at all," he says. "With me you get more groove and melodies. You're going to get structure and variety in each song. My thing is to move you." # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: XDUB5017@aol.com Subject: (orb) Reflector's website Date: 08 Jun 2000 13:14:21 EDT For more information on Reflector: the website as follows can be visited: www.reflectornow.com or the record label www.deezzer.com Good luck with this project! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: seofon@slip.net (Seofon) Subject: (orb) Greg Hunter Date: 08 Jun 2000 12:27:22 -0800 I just wanted to jump on and say that Greg Hunter is the Master, and, I think, a real unsung hero as far as contributions to the Orb. It's been out in the US since last Tuesday. Once More is on disc two, but AFAIK, it's not a remix. It's a mix CD - the preceding track is Bedrock - Voices (Freelance Icebreakers mix) and the track following Once More is Jimm Van M - ECI-PS. It looks like the tracks that are remixes have the mix name listed, and there is no mix name next to the Orb track. Seems there have been a lot of new people lately. So, for everyone who doesn't already know, there is an archive of rare, bootleg, and out-of-print Orb music called the Orb Audio Archive. It has been built by members of this list, and is for the benefit of members. I am not the original host, but I picked up the responsibility when it had been offline for several months. I have been doing some work to better organize the archive, using consistent file names and ID3 tags. I have been including info from Lazlos discography. I still have some cleanup to do, but I hope to continue providing a semi-professional archive of Orb music, so all can enjoy as I have. The archive is hosted on and FTP server, located at 24.1.153.3. The login is 'orb' and the password is 'orb'. this system is almost always up, but there is no guarantees. If you can't access it, try again later. I highly recommend using a true ftp client, as opposed to using a web browser. It will make your life much easier. Please fell free to contribute, but only RARE, BOOTLEG, or OUT-OF-PRINT material, and include as much information as possible about it in a text file (preferrably using Lazlo's Discog as a reference). If you are not sure whether something you have qualifies for one of these categories, ask the list. It is full of Orb-know-it-alls, and they will be happy to let you know. =) Thanks, and have a nice day. *MoonDogg* Lazlo's - http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orb # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Dirty Hooka" Subject: (orb) RE: Peel Session I Date: 27 Jun 2000 19:24:53 GMT You can order from CDnow.com or towerrecords.com. I listen to all types of music and artists; one of my favorites being a group of bad ass motherfuckers that call themselves the Orb. man, lists are great, i'm subbed to five; most of the local lists go straight to the trash unless theres a review or something, or someone i know posts, so ANYWAY!!! a few months ago i was sorting through all the local "rave" list drama, and i got to thinking: if there's an orb list out there, then why am i not on it? so here i am. i would tell you my favorite orb tracks if that were possible, but some that come to mind are all the YMO remixes, the killing joke remix DEFINITELY up there in the top five, the whole pomme fritz album, the whole Orbus Terrarum album, the peel session version of Montagne D'Or, ....i could go on and on but pointless. the Orb has had major influence on me musically; practically changed the way i listen to music. other influences include LUKE VIBERT, Jammin Unit [although much of his latest work seems to be headed more towards a "pop music -like" sound], Richard Bartz and basically the whole kanzleramt camp, the Surgeon, Squarepusher, Luke Vibert, Mu-Ziq, Luke Vibert.... i been to three orb shows and smoked one sweet with mr. LX himself at a Meat Beat show. yeah yeah, i know cheesy, but goddamn he's a rock'n'roll star to me man! =P jk. [it's the crack and the reverb i tell ya...] oh, and if you want you can check out a site which includes pictures of us and some of the kiddie raves we throw down here in the lone star State. also included is a shitty bio that i did not write, i repeat: i did not write [probably the reason why the gigs aren't calling my name anymore, hehe] http://www.hardrivefuture.com ok so now i've been told it is time for me to get back in my hole. peace. •v•[§|§h裣ìë2Ð] •v•[Ha®Ð®ìvë][+ëk|xùÞÞØ®+] •v•[Çhëm¡§+®¥|®ëÇø®Ð§][7|3.52|.4797] •v•[|| | | | | | | | | | •v•[http://hardrivefuture.com] [http://chemistryrecords.com] "I have also been removing people who do not like me. The "work in progress" is already available; otherwise people on this list wouldn't have the two CD-Rs. All I'm asking for is a dupe of a dupe. I'm not looking to trade this or make money off of it, just to hear it. Paying for it would suck, but I would rather pay than do without. Please someone put this out there. I myself would prefer a CD burned from CD not from MP 3, but what are you going to do. I will pay cost and shipping to anyone who will do that for me. Sorry I am an analogue  snob and I think CDs sound shitty and compressed enough as it is and will only resort to MP3 as a result of absolute desperation as in this case, for that matter I only resort to CDs in a matter of absolute desperation.  Please don't tell anyone I said I am trying to purchase a CD, it will tarnish my reputation.

There is a difference between trading or posting MP3's of things that were once in print and now out, and Bootlegs of live recordings. But posting a rough, or (Pre-Mix) version of an album that isn't even out is very different matter. For one, maybe along the lines, the big label guy= s will want to release these 10 years later in some limited edition box set. Or put them as B-Side mixes on Singles.. Anyways.. It's almost as similar= as distributing a rough cut of a film before it hits the theaters.. I know we fan's can't wait for the new CD release, we've all been aching, but It probably be best to hold off until our fav artists are clear with = it. WE wouldn't want it to cause something as good as the OAA to be shut-down because of a little fiasco like this. AFAIK, there's over 400 folks on this list - anyone feel like ripping 400 copies of a cd in their spare time just for fun? then posting them all in the mail? and dealing with all the 'where's my Cydonia cd?!?!' emails from impatient people? sounds like a huge pain just to give away what is quite possibility the rarest and hottest commodity amoungst orbsters right now... i'm all for open discussion and all, but these 'put me on the list for the Cydonia cd-r' emails are getting a bit silly. (and with the desparation that drips from every request, i'm surprised no one's stepped in to scam everyone out of $10 or something.) just my thoughts - add them to the rubbish bin if you like =) rachel # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: John Moxness Subject: RE: (orb) Cydonia CD-R - let it go Date: 30 Jun 2000 10:01:10 -0500 i'm all for open discussion and all, but these 'put me on the list for the Cydonia cd-r' emails are getting a bit silly. If you cannot physically feel it instead of just hearing it, it is not good enough. Anything else is just ingesting the sounds as if you were a brain in a jar. The orb should be experienced, not heard, there is much more too it than 16 bit 44.1Khz PCM a second can provide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: John Moxness Subject: RE: (orb) Cydonia CD-R - let it go Date: 30 Jun 2000 12:24:43 -0500 I have been scammed out of ten dollars for much worse things than something I want this badly, I know lots of you are tired of hearing it, but if somebody would fucking scam a few of us for $10 bucks we might shut up.
