The Cox/Wyden amendment is a direct attack on the Exon/Coats Communications Decency Act (CDA). House passage of the Cox/Wyden amendment is the last chance we have to defeat the Exon/Coats CDA. If the House fails to pass Cox/Wyden, the Exon bill will likely become law. We must act now to head off this possibility. Please take a moment to contact your member of Congress and urge them to support the Cox/Wyden legislation (described in the alert below). The attached alert is from a coalition organized by the Voters Telecommunications Watch (VTW) which includes CDT, EFF, EPIC, and other online advocacy organizations. This may be your last chance to make your voice heard on this critical issue, so please call before Friday August 4. ======================================================== ================ CAMPAIGN TO STOP THE EXON/COATS COMMUNICATIONS DECENCY ACT (SEE THE LIST OF CAMPAIGN COALITION MEMBERS AT THE END) Update: -Latest News: House vows to vote on Telecomm bill (which includes the CDA) this week before recess! -What You Can Do Now *** THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. *** *** THE HOUSE WILL VOTE ON THE COMMUNICATIONS DECENCY *** *** ACT THIS WEEK. Cox/Wyden (HR1978) is legislation intended to prevent the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from imposing content regulations on cyberspace and encourage private sector development and deployment of parental control technologies. Throughout HR1978's history, civil liberties advocates from ACLU, CDT, EPIC & PFAW have examined the bill and recommended modifications to ensure that the bill does not negatively impact your privacy or civil liberties. Although several questions still remain, Representatives Cox and Wyden are committed to addressing these concerns. As the legislation moves to the House/Senate conference committee, civil liberties advocates will continue to submit changes to the Representatives' staffers throughout the conference process where the House bill and the Senate-approved Communications Decency Act are reconciled. ________________________________________________________ ________________ CHRONOLOGY OF THE COMMUNICATIONS DECENCY ACT House vote to occur before Friday August 4, 1995. The track, called Codpiece (Trouser Torpedo Mix), is actually a collaboration between the Orb and Secret Knowledge. The band, renamed ByTESIZE NUNS for this track, consists of ND Burton, AP Hughes, K Needs, S Phillips and AR Paterson. Codpiece (Trouser Torpedo Mix) clocks in at 7:26 minutes and is a trancy bit with a smattering of Orb effects for good measure. All in all, the track is more in the vein of Kris Need's Secret Knowledge project or any Sabres of Paradise material but still maintains enough Orb influence to keep Orb fans and trainspotters happy. BTW: After a few listens this track is reminiscent of some of the harder material The Orb played during their recent North American tour. -->-Lance--- mclance@ix.netcom.com - -- For help using the list software (sub/unsub, list users, etc.), email majordomo@xmission.com with HELP on a line by itself in the message. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: abennett@iglou.com (Andrew Bennett) Subject: Re: Happy House Crap [Ellen Steuer Date: 10 Aug 1995 18:58:05 -0400 Originally From: abennett@iglou.com (Andrew Bennett) Sorry for the delay. I heard they were in the studio with Carl Craig (see CC's mix on that Limited Addition System 7 cd, I think). *shrug* The party/rave was in Dayton, and System 7 did a half live set that was about 40 minutes long. Part was on tape, obviously, because they couldn't transport all their gear. The sound was excellent, and the music right there with it. Steve was twiddling knobs and playing his guitar, and Miquette was knob twiddling on a small console. Both were smiles all throughout their set, so I'm sure they knew it was a good performance. At one point, during a particularly danceable track (ie, boom boom boom boom) Miquette started bouncing and dancing around on stage. Hopefully Astralwerks / Big Life got it on tape to put out as a live set. I can't give a track list, as the music flowed pretty well, but I do recall hearing a bit that sounded like "Miracle". Recommendation: if you can catch System 7 live, go for it. Even if part of it is on tape. WOW. I, too, have often found things which I don't like at first are the ones that end up being favorites (this seems especially true of Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 - any TFUL 282 fans out there?). I fear OT will sit in my collection, gathering dust, as I simply do not have time to balance my work, my social life, and listening to other new stuff with listening to OT over and over again, hoping it grows on me. The sample was essiontialy as long as the Orb's usage - which is a good chunk of the song. The sample was aired a few times during the broadcast. Tonight's eposide was "Love Night" where the show attempted to bring love to various hate groups such as The KKK, Nazis, White Suprematists, Jesse Helms, the Michigan Milita, and extremist anti-abortion groups. The show was, as usual, side splitting funny. The Minny Riperton bit was used as intro music and over-dub music for the various bits, which included an all gay men choir sernating Jesse Helms, a Mexican Maricha band performing during a KKK rally, and a group of pro-choice activists planting trees, flowers, and plastic flamingos in the yard of an anti-choice leader. And use of the song made it the bits that much better. I don't make an attempt to listen to 70s music, but this was the first time I ever heard the song without an Orb influence. BTW, the show is now aired on Fox (right before the X-Files) and is produced in conjuction with the BBC. <<--<<--< Subject: RE: Thanks Date: 14 Aug 1995 14:21:49 PDT Originally From: Rodd Karp Perhaps you and your houseguest are psychic. I still cant get into Pomme Fritz. I see everyone on here typing about how they like it over (even Orbvs) other Orb projects. I appreciate your enjoyment of the music, but myself, I find it completely inaccessible. I recently got System 7's Fire + Water and I enjoy that a bit. Its a bit redundant, but nice none the less. - -- For help using the list software (sub/unsub, list users, etc.), email majordomo@xmission.com with HELP on a line by itself in the message. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: nightshd@netshop.net (NIGHTSHADE) Subject: Directions Date: 15 Aug 1995 18:15 PDT Originally From: nightshd@netshop.net (NIGHTSHADE) I will be in and around Toronto the first week or so of September, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me about some cool import cd shops? The version on CD > The Orb's Adventures... is different. Can anybody help me ? Actually that's Star 6 & 789. =) The version on the 1CD (US version) of Ultraworld is similar to the one on the video, and the one on the US CD single of Perpetual Dawn is the same thing but with the whole "zitcom" sample. Incidentally, the versions of Perpetual dawn on that single are pretty similar to the one on Patterns and Textures. As for the actual version that's on the video - it was made at the live concert where the video was filmed at! Some copies of the video came with a CD of the sountrack. - - Bobby - -- To reply to the author, use "reply". To reply to the list, use "group-reply". The auction ends at noon, on Sept. 9, EST. I may not accept the highest bid for an auction item if I feel that it is too low. Also, I will notify bidders only on a daily basis on changes of the highest bid. The minimum increase in bids is $1 (i.e. If you wish to raise your bid on an item, you must bid at least a dollar over the highest bid.) Feel free to make offers as well. For track listings, please refer to my home page, http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~hcheng/me.html they're in there somewhere. If you would like to pay by check, I will have to wait for the check to clear first before sending out the items. In addition, if you are living overseas, I will also accept US dollars, international money orders, and British pounds at $1.5 = 1 UKP. If you are sending currency, be sure to wrap it in something, so that one can't see it while holding the envelope up to the light. Postage is as follows: $2 for the first CD, $1 for each additional one $3 for the first 12" (or doublepack), $2 for each additional one $2 for the first tape, $1 for each additional one. $3 for the first video, $1.50 each additional one $3 for the first book/magazine,$1 for each additional one Shipping for overseas orders will be worked out on an individual basis. Please mail me to confirm that an item has not been taken yet. Also, please be very clear in your language when you confirm. Often times, people have said that they were interested in an item, when they only wanted to get some more info. So, if you want to reserve something and intend to send me the money for it, please say so! If you merely say that you are interested, I can not reserve it for you. thanks! (This *includes* postage.) Check out the "Mute Bank" part of http://www.mutelibtech.com, and you can pretty much order from their whole catalog.
