STATEMENT We proudly announce the official start of J.A.M.M. on 1.January 1998. For more information, read the FAQ below or visit the J.A.M.M. homepage at http://www.xoom.com/wwwjamm Frequently Asked Questions: - ----------------------------------------------------- What is J.A.M.M.? J.A.M.M., a.k.a. "Joined Against Millennium Madness" is a worldwide non-profit organization of people to fight against "Millennium Madness" of all kind. J.A.M.M. membership is absolutely free for everybody and no costs are involved. What is "Millennium Madness"? There is no strict defintion of "Millennium Madness" but it depends completely on the interpretation of each J.A.M.M. member and his or her personal opinion. What does it involve to be a member? J.A.M.M. members try to find creative ways to fight against "Millennium Madness". That ranges from simply having fun with whatever project you are involved in to trying to initiate positive changes by making people aware of bad sides of society. Or it can be something completely different. It's only up to you. Initially being a member means that you are listed in the member directory and you'll receive the e-mail traffic sent to the J.A.M.M. mailing list. A lot more can follow from that, but that totally depends on what you are inspired to do. There are no assigned tasks, everything is done by self-motivated action and spontaneous cooperation. How do I become a J.A.M.M. member? Very simple: subscribe to the J.A.M.M. mailing list by sending a mail to ftm-request@iastate.edu with "subscribe" (without quotation marks) in the message body. The mailing list is a place where J.A.M.M. members can announce, plan and discuss their projects. If you would like to be listed in the official member directory on the J.A.M.M. homepage, then send an e-mail with "new member" in the subject line to the mailing list. It should contain your name or pseudonym, your place of residence (city and country) and your web-homepage-address if you have one. The member directory is useful for finding J.A.M.M. members who live near you or share the same interests. What do I do to contribute to J.A.M.M.? Whatever you feel like. That might appear overly loose compared with most organizations. Nobody's telling you what to do and there is no particular threatening urgency being presented to you. More likely, different members will start different projects that they find need to be done, and they might put a call out for volunteers or co-creators. If you are inspired by the proposed project you can then join together in teams, organized whichever way the members choose. Individual teams and projects might well have more specific rules about how things are done and who they want to play with. Is there a connection to the Anti Millennium Army? No, J.A.M.M. has absolutely nothing to do with the Anti Millennium Army. We don't know exactly who they are or why they are against the millennium because there is only very little information avaible about them. Probably, the Anti Millennium Army is an underground organisation of militant fanatics who are either againts the construction of the Millennium Dome in London or the millennium celebration in general. What about Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty? They had big inspirational influence on J.A.M.M. with their work as "JAMs", "KLF", "K Foundation" and recently as "2K". Bill Drummond and Jim Cauty are now "K2 Plant Hire" and they will build "The Great Northern Pyramid of the People" somewhere in Britain. J.A.M.M. is also cooperating with "Gimpo Film Technologies", an organization closely connected to "K2 Plant Hire". (J.A.M.M. does not endorse or condone any illegal actions) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 10:16:44 +0200 (EET) From: Dan Grandpre Subject: Re: (orb) Rose Tinted/jungle is not bullshit On Wed, 31 Dec 1997, Frankie G [iarratani] wrote: > it is reeeeealy hard for me not to just go buck-wild on this, so i will > try my hardest to restrain myself. dont have a stroke now frankie.. =) > andy c > dj ss > mental power > optical > ed rush/no u turn > ganja kru/hype > origin unknown > plug > photek > anything on metalheadz i've heard numerous tracks from all of the above and im sorry to report im not impressed > to you, maybe... it's not my fault that you can't handle it, but the > jungle underground is stronger than you could ever possibly imagine. it > is all about innovation and pushing music to the next level. jungle > styles change so rapidly that it is almost impossible to keep up with. oh my, ill just leave this bit alone and let the rest of the list take it in for themselves.. > 1) jungle is not "4 on the floor" - i think you are confusing jungle with > some of the other forms for dance music that you consider crap. i didnt say thats what jungle was.. my point was that 'death to 4 on the floor! we go beyond that!' is like the battle cry of the junglist movement. people are still doing amazing things with straight 4/4 techno incidentally.. its not anyone's fault that some people randomly decided that nothing more could be done and instead set out to mutilate the 4/4 dynamics into these new beats.. what i was saying is that the orb doesnt adhere to the housey rhythm dynamics ( esp on orbvs and orblivion) and yet is much more coherent (to me) compared to jungle artists... yes even the ones you listed. > 2) again... just cause you can make any sense of jungle don't mean much. its not that i dont make sense of it. i understand what it's trying to do. i just think it fails. > 3) every jungle/d&b track that you've ever heard? something tells me that > the list of tracks that you've heard isn't all that extensive. how bout hundreds, thousands? i have junglist buds including dj's who stay on top of the releases.. still doesnt change my feeling on it. > orb is just a bunch of ambient rubbish. gimme a break. i feel the orb has a much greater and more sensitive sense of rhythm and sound when you compare them to this jungle 'rubbish' > pps - oh yeah, did i mention that some of lx's top 10 records ever are > jungle? he and i must know something that you all don't :P ive never liked lx much as a dj to be honest =) for starts, how bout you check out some of THIS stuff and tell me jungle was a necessary evolutionary step in music: bluespirit, mosaic, green, clear, red planet, drumcode, guidance, planet rhythm, hybrid, soma, etc. etc. the list goes on.. - -dan g (dj lewis has played a load of this kind of stuff when ive seen him) - - # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 15:01:29 +0000 From: Smiley Subject: Re: (orb) Various Inquiries John Goelzer writes >A few questions about some Orb goodies that may or may not exist... >* Is there a Mixmag CD mixed by LX? I would like to trade that and a brand new copy of the first Peel Sessions Release for any CD version of the 40 minute Blue Room Single... if anybody is interested in either of these releases seperately, let me know... oh, a local store in the Phoenix Area has a copy of the Toxygene single. It's the box set (both parts are in the large cardboard box. it doesn't appear to have the plastic case from CD(2?) as all I saw was the cardboard box with a sticker that said "COntains both CD's" (or something to that extent) I could pick that up, and arrange a deal with somebody (wanna trade for a 40 minute Blue Room?) if anybody is interested. I believe that the box version of toxygene is very hard to come by.... oh, and they also have the Asylum box (one disc) and asylum slim line (one disc). I can get either of the toxygene or asylum slim lines (plastic cases) easily if anybody needs them... those are at regualr import single prices (10-12 dollars US) that is all.... - -ben - - # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ End of orb-digest V2 #20 ************************
