I picked up the US release of The Altogether yesterday. I had already gotten the import version months ago, but still went out to get the bonus disc. I grabbed it from Best Buy, list price was $12.99, but it rang up at $9.99. Yep $10 for a 2 disc set of Orbital, that's awesome. Not sure if it was on sale or just the wrong price to go with the UPC, whatever the reason it's a great price. Well that's all. Just waiting for some friggin' tour dates. Later. I just got the album yesterday, and have only listened to the first disk, and not the second yet, so I don't know if I can really say what I think about it, I need to let it sink in first. What I can say is, I am glad I waited to listen to it, after reading everyone's thoughts and opinions about the new album, I did not know if I should be excited to listen to it, or be prepared to be disappointed. By waiting until after all the comments about the album died down a bit, it gave me a chance to listen to it for myself, and not have my mind clouded with preconceived ideas from what I had been reading about it. So far I am not sure how I feel about it. It is not as simple as saying, I really like it, or I don't like it at all, or I like this song but not that one. Overall the only conclusion I can draw is that while I do like the album, it does not sound like Orbital, to me. In the past I would hear an Orbital song, and know it was them without having to look, this album is not like that for me. That is not a bad thing per say, it is just different. For a lot of artists that is what a new album is about, being different and trying new sounds, I would not want to be the one to say that Orbital should stick to "their sound" and not grow and change. All in all, I feel that this album will become more Obitalish for me, the more I listen to it. My hope is that as a fan I can enjoy the old stuff, and at the same time let my taste grow and change along with theirs. Now I am off to listen to the second disk, and making wishes that they will play near Seattle if they do a U.S. tour! "BTW. i just called Best Buy and YES they have The Altogether here
in Knoxville for $9.99.
I'm having trouble getting my list moved over to this account, so if you could
do me one favor and alert the list that whoever's Best Buy
recommendation goes for Knoxville tooo, that would be great.
And ask if anybody wants to meet up for the Atlanta show. LET"S PARTY! :)
Ask Steve P if he can fly over ;)"

Also the Best Buy in Orlando has The Altogether for 9.99, I am going to try to check out Atlanta.

Can't beat it at $9.99! I just wanted to let you all know that I got my copy of TA on DVD today. I'm able to watch it on my dvd rom drive, but haven't tried it on a normal dvd player. Probably one of the first here in the US to see it. It's very cool, so everyone is invited over to my studio to watch... lets party and dance. I'll try it on a regular dvd tomorrow, but i don't think it's going to work. I had to switch my region settings on the computer for it to play, so it doesn't look good as far as a normal dvd goes, but i'll keep ya posted. I ordered it from amazon.co.uk, and it arrived in just over a week. In other news, just got back from catchin' Uberzone and Crystal Method in Boyton Beach, Fl. Got off work at 10:00, drove for over an hour, stood in line for 10 min. walked in and 2 minutes later Uberzone was droppin' the Electro funk for the masses. He played his new material and didn't drop his classics like Botz or Moondusted. But he still was jammin'. Crystal Method took to the stage after Adam Freeland spun records for about 45 min, including "Smack My Bitch Up" which fired up the crowd. Crystal Meth took the stage and belted out their tunes. Most of the material was off of the new album, but they did drop a few old favorites, High Roller, Keep Hope Alive, and closed the show with Busy Child. Very nice performance, loud, heavy, and slammin' in your face!!! Worst part, the friggin' a/c didn't seem to be working, and oh yeah, $5 for a bottle of water, high way robbery. Anyways, that's all, time to watch a bit more of the dvd before i head home to sleep. Later. If you are reading this, you and yours are invited. Please let me know soon if you are interested, and how many will be in your group. I will then send you directions and contact information. Getting to my place is easy, and I'm a five-minute car ride from the venue. I figure we can meet before the show (say, 7-ish) for handshakes and consolidating travel to the venue, then hang out here after the show until whenever. I have a pretty nice party facility in the basement. Stereo, satellite TV, full bar, pool table, darts, fireplace. It's a pretty comfortable place to hang out with a group people. By the way, here's a link to the show description at The Rave website: http://www.therave.com/eventinfo.asp?ID=857 You can tell right away that this place is not in the know, calling Orbital "The most respected elderly statesman of the UK house scene." What is THAT about? Elderly? House? I just picked up tickets from The Rave directly, for myself, my wife, and a friend. $23 a piece (with all the fees) still seems like a bargain. The guy at the counter tells me that the boys are scheduled for the Eagles Ballroom, the biggest room inside The Rave. It's a good place to see a show. Giant 25,000 square foot floor that was once used for ballroom dancing. Big balcony with seating. I believe it holds about 3000. (My tickets are numbered 1057, 1058, and 1059.) Take care guys, Kulsoom _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Pseudonaut Subject: (orbital) chitown Date: 19 Sep 2001 13:42:49 -0700 (PDT) i'm hearing all this about the meetup in atlanta and stuff...jealous anyone going to the chicago show? it's going to be at the metro which is fan-tastic since the metro is tiny. no matter where you're standing you're close to the stage. i'll be front row of course. so yeah if anyone else is going and wants to meet somewhere downtown let's do it. i'd say meet at my house or something but i'm a bit farther away from the venue than is convenient. dig brandon.i __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? Kulsoom, thanks for the invite. I'll get back to you on meetup plans soon. As of now the crew driving up from Miami will be 8 people. Actually 6 here, and we're picking up 2 more in Tampa. We're planning on leaving Tampa sometime before noon on Friday. According to Expedia with the help of their maps, it's going to take us about 7h 30min to get to the gig. Once i have a bit more idea of everything going on at this end, i'll be in touch so we can work something out. The list just grew by 5 last night. As soon as our friends caught wind of our crazy, mad adventure they're droppin' everything, and coming along. So it'll be a nice road trip. Then all 8 of us will head to Orlando's gig, and then finally back home to Miami for our final gig. What a way to spend a weekend!!! There will be a bunch of us at the Orlando gig and many more at the Miami, lets try and schedule a meetup. Also in the works, maybe a little party here at The Box after the Miami gig. SR will probably be throwin' down some live tracks, if we're still breathing. Try and get P&P, Loopz and crew back here. It may have been the best Orbital show I´ve ever seen, despite the fact that they didn´t play Halcyon. The sound system was better than any I´ve ever seen before. The venue was really classy compared to what we get in the US. They played at this place called La Riviera. It had a greenhouse-like roof, with palm trees and tropical plants everywhere. I stood right next to the sound board for optimal listening enjoyment. Oh yeah, I went with former(could be still)list member Monica Garcia-Gallo who´s from Madrid. She helped me out with buying the tickets and whatnot since my spanish is piss poor. So, that´s 3 list members I´ve met now: Scott Kelly, Marc Sawaya, Monica Gallo. Is there some sort of record for most international meet ups? Because, I´d span three continents later this month. Just curious... If anyone wants to ruin their surprise, send me an email and I´ll let you know the setlist and stuff. One thing I didn´t like: the damn European sizing! How can you guys wear clothes that tight? I bought an XL hooded sweatshirt and I can barely fit my head into it. It fits more like a large. I knew I didn´t gain THAT much weight since I´ve been here! It´s bad enough having all this jamon and tapas all the time here! hehehe I´m not complaining. I will be sad if they don't play San Diego or Vegas because I wanted to see them play at least 3 times. I would go to San Francisco but that is the night before the LA show and I'm stuck in the LA area that week. Friday night at San Diego would be perfect.. and then Saturday in Vegas. OH man! I am sort of considering taking a plane to a Sat show .. maybe Kansas City or New York. That would be the craziest thing I did for an Orbital concert but seeing as they only come by every 3 years it would be worth it! Shaun > My apologies for posting this to the list. They've got that gap between the 20th and 24th that makes me think they may make it to Seattle after all. If not, I'm thinking big NYC weekend. Anyone know when they'll announce the rest of the tour? Loopz doesn't even have the San Francisco show listed yet, though ticketmaster has it but nothing additional over loopz. Is three weeks notice to much to ask for? I mean, I need to buy plane tickets if they don't come to seattle or nearby... James > I am sort of considering taking a plane to a Sat show .. maybe Kansas City > or New York.
