Anyway, here's the poll results...they're a bit more prosaic than I would have thought, but I just count the votes... Album of '97 1. Crystal Method--Busy Child (9 pts) 2. Coldcut--Let Us Play (5 pts) 2. Radiohead--OK Computer (5 pts) 2. Orb--Orblivion (5 pts) 5. Aphex Twin--Come to Daddy (4 pts) Song of '97 1. Aphex Twin--Come to Daddy (Pappy mix) (7 pts) 2. Bjork--Bachelorette (5 pts) 2. Radiohead--Paranoid Android (5 pts) 4. µ-ziq--Brace Yourself Jason (4 pts) 4. The Verve--Bittersweet Symphony (4 pts) All-time Album 1. Orbital--Insides (14 pts) 2. Orbital--Brown (7 pts) 3. Smashing Pumpkins--Siamese Dream (5 pts) 4. The Orb--Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld (4 pts) 4. Front 242--Up Evil (4 pts) Interestingly enough, I don't think anyone voted for Vegas as their album of the year, but it got enough 2nd and 3rd place points to win. I'm still disappointed none of you voted for Mouse on Mars' Autoditacker....hopefully that's just cos none of you have really heard it =) I suppose the 2 Orbital albums at the top of the all-time list were to be expected. - - # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orbital" in the message. # Postings must go to orbital@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 23:51:52 -0800 From: "dxford@earthlink.net" Subject: Re: (orbital) Untitled 2 Morey Gamble wrote: > > ZenAngel7@aol.com wrote: > > > In a message dated 97-12-18 16:33:40 EST, you write: > > > > Oh, my god! It's so stupid. They're gonna tell girls to >stand up for themselves and that girls kick ass and are strong and all >that shit... then look at what they wear.. Just makes me want to scream. As you are trying to say, what you wear has no reflection on the kind of person you are. The spice Girls can dress however they want...they should be able to dress sexy and whorey if they want to, or wear combat boots and huge jeans. It's not "demeaning" to dress any particular way. Now the fact that the spice girls are stupid as all hell, and people actually seem to respect them despite the fact that they are ugly, untalented whores without the slightest intelligent thing to say...that's a different story. But the fault lies in the people who respect them, not in the clothes they wear. _YOU_ are the one who is imposing a value judgement on them based on the way they are dressed. (It so happens that your value judgement is correct based on the way they act....but that is not what we're discussing). >do. But I go shopping, and I see all the tiny shirts, short skirts, >huge heels, all that kinda stuff and it makes me sick. Give me a pair The fact is that looking cute or sexy or even "nice" is a way to attract the opposite sex. I think that there are plenty of varieties of clothes for girls and guys out there...so you can dress how you want. My girlfriend wears sort of semi-alternative big shoes, sewaters and jeans most of the time...and I was attracted to her because that's what I like, and she dresses like that because that's the kind of person she is. But other people like girls who dress in more short things and skirts and stuff...and people who dress that way tend to act a certain way and value cretain things - - that's the kind of people they want to attract. Still others don't care - they wear whatever is on the floor that day, and they attract people who dress the same. And even that is not really a valid way of judging people...just because a girl dresses in short skirts and bippy-tops doesn't mean she's a whore...and you have no right to say she is. Just as if someone dresses "metal" you can't assume that they're rednecks, or sleazy or anything like that. None of this is "better or worse" or "demeaning" it's justhow that person chooses to dress. >of widelegs and a normal fitting shirt any day. How the hell am I >supposed to be doing any ass kicking in all that prissy shit?? Get Who is forcing you to dress that way? No one is. You dress how you want to dress, but don't condemn people for having different taste than you. >real. And what's with the guys out there?? Back when I still skated >(aggressive inline), there were guys that actually told me to go home >and to the kitchen where I belonged. I proceeded to challenge them to a >little skating competition.. guess who won?? Me. That shut them up for >a while. But it's still stupid. Go out in skate clothing, what I'm That's fucked up...I'm from Boston and here the skate scene has tons of girls and guys and both get respect...it's based on your skating ability not your sex. [snip] >if we're supposed to go for the girls kick ass image they force feed >us.. why do they not support us when we get out there and beat the boys >at something?? It sounds like you come from a rather odd society. None of the places I have lived and none of the places my friends have lived (except maybe for my friend from El Salvador) impose any kind of critisizm on girls who dress as you have described. There are hardly any girls that I see at College that dress all "prissy" as you describe it, and no one critisizes them...that's just the way they are. My point is that YOU are the one who is judging people on the way they dress. YOU have decided that the clothes you see in the mall are "prissy" or slutty or uncomfortable. That's your opinion of those clothes. - ---------------------------- Susan & Chuck O'Connor bpaq@tiac.net - - # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orbital" in the message. # Postings must go to orbital@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Dec 1997 14:59:38 +0000 From: "Whiggy" Subject: Re: (orbital) That reminds me.....so u want to know who Jones is > Check the sleeve design...who is it by ? > > There u go...Jones the mystery has unfolded :) > > > Thanx > > Steve LOOPZ Price So, you mean Steve draws the covers for Orbitals albums with his tongue? ;) Whiggy - - # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orbital" in the message. # Postings must go to orbital@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Dec 1997 18:18:15 EST From: Fishy T 99 Subject: Re: (orbital) poll results Hey guys, I just realized that I'm a boner...the # 1 album of the year should be "Vegas"...not Busy Child.....I suck - - # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orbital" in the message. # Postings must go to orbital@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Dec 1997 00:49:35 EST From: wonkers@juno.com (shyra davis) Subject: (orbital) Re: orbital-digest V2 #25 ok, so i'm new to the list and would love to vote, but don't have the address since i'm new and didn't get it when this thing started. if ya sent it again i would be sure to go vote. smiles shyra....................................................... >Date: Sat, 20 Dec 1997 04:49:12 EST >From: Fishy T 99 >Subject: (orbital) for the last time, vote!!!! > >Ok guys, I know I'm being a huge pain in the ass about this, but vote >for the >goddamn poll already!
