"stay tuned for more info..." or whatever. bah i don't care. we prolly (unfortunately) shouldn't expect it till next spring in my opinion. watch: they'll set a release date of october, but then there'll be art problems which will push the date back to december, then there'll be a massive CD manufacturer strike and warp will have to turn to a polynesian factory that normally only produces glass birds filled with a liquid that magically makes them dip their heads into a glass of water periodically, this will push it back to february. then, a special edition, limited to 23 copies 5 disc version will come out, pushing the actual release date to march 13th. but that's just a guess, eh? :o) speaking of afx, has anyone heard that rare V/VM afx tribute album? "Save Aphex Twin - Because You Don't Give A Fuck" or something to that extent. just curious how it is... brandon __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Germans LOVE security, you know, plus the festival was of a much much larger scale than the ones in Greece!.. If i wouldn't manage to get backstage i prolly would've shot myself, cause i was even INVITED there by Orbital themselves when we talked about their scheduled german gigs in Greece!.. However, like expected i couldn't even come closer to them than 20 meters since security was all around and the backstage area was secured like Fort Knox! <:-) Okay, fast forward, clever me figured out a way to actually MAKE it backstage! ;-D I managed to give them the present i promised them in Greece, the Covers of the Roskilde, Vegas, San Fran and Cream Bootlegs, plus a copy of my remix-competition contribution (just in case it wasn't in the preselection, i just wanted to make sure! ;-).. I figured i wouldn't supply the Bootleg-CDs themselves with it, cause i thought it'd be quite ignorant and offensive to give an artist his own bootlegs! <:-) I know they tolerate bootlegging, but that still seemed quite inappropirate to me.. Plus they have a DAT in the finest possible quality of every gig anyway, so they really don't need these! ;-D Unfortunately i was told that the gig the next day in N=FCrnberg will be cancelled, cause Paul had to leave ASAP cause of.. urrm.. unexpected happenings that he needed to get back to England for right away!.. I couln't do much more than slip him the bootlegs (he liked the "I don't know you people"-thought-bubble picture of him on the Roskilde one! 8) and when he checked out the remix he said (cause it credited "DeeKay's Pal" as the maker, my friend that made the remix wanted it that way, don't blame me! ;-D "But you're not DeeKay - you're Daniel!.. But then again: I'm not Orbital either!" 8))) It was great to see that both of them still recognized me and Phil even knew my name! ;-) It's really true what they say - they're TOTALLY down to earth still!.. So i took a fast picture of Paul before he left and stood a little with Phil and two Tool-Guys (I guess some of you start drooling now, but I don't know ANYTHING about them except for that they're pretty popular ATM and that they worked with Orbital for "Tootled"! <:-) I took a few more pictures and short videoclips (FUJI digital cameras rule! ;-) and soon enough Phil was gone aswell, i took a really nice sharp one of Mickey Mann, too, before he went to bed! ;-D Summing up it wasn't as great as in Greece, cause they had to leave so soon and the backstage area was far more busy than in Greece, so there was no time to sit down and have a chat like back then!.. But it was still great! ;-D I hung around with a few people from Korona (does that ring a bell with anyone? I didn't know them! <:-) and left at approx 5am, driving all the way home straight away again, cause i wanted to be home for my girlfriend's shop's "special opening day" (who dumped me on tuesday via SMS for another guy - thank you very much! >:-( So here's the really useful piece of information you've all been waiting for! ;-D I've asked what the next single release will be and it's *drumroll* ILLUMINATE! 8) YESSSS! ;-D I can't wait to hear that one, i had a glimpse during the concert where they played a version of Illuminate with David Gray's voice heavily disted and tweaked in the now pretty popular Cher/Eiffel65/Daft Punk-style! 8) You know, the one with the pitch-corrector.. Actually i had to laugh when i heard that, cause i saw a small clip on Loopz from that BBC- programme about synthesizers ("Shape of the things that hum") where they talked EXACTLY about this effect! ;-D It's "Vocoder part 2" for everyone who wants to check it out! Okay, that's it for my report! 8) I might have forgotten a few things that could be of interest to you, but i'll post them when i think of them! ;-D I'll process the pictures and put them online and mail around the URL for those people interested! 8) Best regards, DeeKay (deekay@c64.org) P.S.: I later learned that taking a (digital?) photocamera with you to the venue is HIGHLY illegal! <:-) Oopsee! ;-D P.P.S.: They'll be back in Germany yet AGAIN in August on a festival called Bizarre, and that one will be totally rocking, along with the ONLY Prodigy gig in germany this year and LTJ Bukem, too, plus alot of other bands that interest me like Mouse on Mars (Hello Aimee btw! 8) Check out "Bib", IMHO their best track!) and a few top german hiphop acts! 8) Phil already promised to put me on the guestlist for that and wrote down my name, i hope he doesn't forget about it! ;-D P.P.P.S.: On a somehow not quite unrelated sidenote: YESSS!!! I'M =46INALLY DONE!!! AFTER =46IVE FUCKING YEARS!!! STEVE CAN YOU HEAR ME? ;-DDD # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 14:19:14 +0200 From: DeeKay Subject: (orbital) Orbital Rock am Ring Experience (1/2) (Preface: there seems to be some word or something, that causes a mail not to be sent to the list, I'm trying to find out which one!) Anyway, enough about that, let's get to the gig report... Better late than never! <:-) So Orbital was FINALLY coming to Germany, after i've been waiting for 5 years!.. Thanks to the lovely Sean Strout at this point for posting the *US* dates (that luckily included the german gigs aswell!), if it wasn't for him I'd have missed this gig, something i wouldn't ever be able to forgive myself! ;-D They were scheduled for the two sister-festivals Rock am Ring in N=FCrburg and Rock im Park, =46riday night in N=FCrburg and Saturday night in N=FCrnberg (don't tell me - - the similar sounding names really DO generate confusion quite often! ;-D The great fan that i am i ofcourse decided to go to BOTH venues (i went there for Orbital only anyway! <:-), only to find out that a) they do NOT sell daily tickets, b) tickets are not transferrable (e.g. if you leave after the first day! >:-) and c) tickets are not interchangeable, which left me with the only option of paying 2x150 Marks (~$140 or ~95 Pounds) for BOTH venues!... Rant rant rant, i had no choice whatsoever, so i left on Friday (after Orbital skipped the scheduled IRC online chat due to a delay! >:-(.. Almost there i passed two pretty remarkable german cities/towns (remarkable for going to an Orbital concert): Bingen, which is where the Abbess Hildegard von Bingen, whose voice from "O euchari" is featured as a sample in Belfast comes from as we all know! ;-D Funny enough that they really PLAYED Belfast on the concert later on, a track i haven't heard them play for YEARS! The second town was called "Plaidt", also pretty funny if you ask me! ;-) I got there roughly about twelve (Orbital were scheduled at two), and i gotta say i haven't seen anything quite like it before... Although the weather was rather bad (=3Drain, rather cold) there were a ridiculous number of people!.. Cars parking EVERYWHERE (even on the Motorway!), everything full tents etc, campfires all around, people just *walking* on the Motorway like it was the most natural thing (you know, the legendary german motorways where you can go as fast as you want! ;-) alternative (free) Concerts even from small bands!.. I swear to god that only half of the people that go there each year never ever visit the venue itself as there's already so much going on *around* it! ;-D Okay, i did find a place to park my car, walked a mile to the entrance only to find the ticket booth closed (they wouldn't sell me any tickets a week in advance, cause they said "they couldn't guarantee that they're here in time!).. I went to the security asking where i could buy tickets, and he told me that that wasn't possible anymore (the festival was still running, and it said NOWHERE on the page that ticket sales were only limited to a certain time!).. So i told him with that psycho look on my face that i have been waiting for this for 5 years and that i just drove 500km only to see Orbital and that there's no way in the world they can NOT let me in! <:-) I swear to god, i must've looked so scary, prolly a mixture between close to crying, screaming and running amok, that one of the security dudes said "Tell you what: you look like an honest dude, and i really do believe the thing about the 500 km, so we'll make an exception in your case and you can go in!" - How cool is that then? ;-D I might have to add that Orbital was scheduled as the last gig of the day, and that they throw everybody out after each day, so IF i would've come back the next day, I would've had to pay ofcourse! ;-D Okay, so i went in, happy about my saving of 150 DM (which i chose to rather invest in Orbital merchandise later on! ;-D.. The concert was delayed, cause the rain had shot a few of their transformators, and they had to fix these first!.. Papa Roach played at this time and the place was pretty crowded.. I really hoped it would clear up when Orbital played cause i enjoy having enough free space to jump around and to be in the very front! ;-D Luckily it was just like i hoped, one of the upsides of Orbital being almost totally unknown in Germany, so only some 500-800 "gourmets" were around when Orbital finally came up! Their gig was TOTALLY FUCKING MINDBLOWING!.. They played some of the new album stuff in remixes that didn't come even CLOSE to the originals and they also played stuff like Belfast, Girl with the sun in her head and other really old classics (some mixed into eachother like the chime/dr.who thing!) that i haven't hear them play for YEARS!.. Dunno why they chose that setlist for a German gig, but i sure as hell enjoyed it and it was a refreshing change cause their setlist ist most of the time pretty much the same when they're promo-touring... I'll try to get a bootleg, so keep your fingers crossed! ;-D If I make it you're in for a VERY special treat, as from all the bootlegs i have hardly one that is so much of a "best of" of all their 5 albums! 8) Never mind the rain, we were jumping around like mad, it was so fucking great! ;-D When the concert was over after approx. 1.5 hours we were screaming for an encore, but they wouldn't give us one! <:-) Read about the reason below!.. =46unny enough that Paul was filming us (=3Dthe audience) after the gig with his digital videocamera! ;-D I really wonder what they do with this footage! 8) Are they just playing around with iMovie for private use like others make their holiday movies? 8) Or maybe it'll be used for a video, so when you see an idiot jumping around like a cow on BSE wearing a selfmade T-Shirt with the big O that says "Orbital - Industry Standard?" in a future Orbital video you know who you're looking at! ;-D (Inquiries for the 280kb T-Shirt-Design go to my adress! 8) =2E.part 2 to follow! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orbital" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orbital@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Orbital discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?orbital ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jul 2001 22:52:24 -0400 From: "Robert Schultz" Subject: (orbital) Email Address Hi all, Some of you may or may not have remembered a member of the list named Monica Gallo from Madrid, Spain.
