Use a sponge or the edge of an ink pad to edge the shape with a contrasting color before applying the clear embossing powder. 2. Glue thin cording (or leather strip) around the outer edge(s) of your completed shape to dress it up and give it a more finished look. (This also works to hide the inside of the corrugated shape if that is what you're using!) 3. Positioning of rubber stamps on the shapes is easiest if they are mounted to acrylic blocks. 4. Punch a small hole in your shape before beginning to decorate it (a leather punch works well on the chipboard). Place the hole at the edge of your shape that will be the top of your finished work. Then: - Decorate it with Christmas stamps, etc. emboss, and add a ribbon or cord thru the hole for a Christmas tree ornament. - Decorate, then add a cord or chain for a pendant (what about convention pendants instead of pins???!!!). 5. Don't just stamp on them! - Paint your own artwork on them and seal with clear Krylon topcoat. - Do a collage on them. 6. Use your finished creation to decorate the top of a box, a card, incorporate it in another project! Using them for pins and magnets is just a beginning! Let your imagination go! Stamping Shapes Pins and Magnets: Materials: 1. stamping shapes 2. pigment inks 3. rubber stamp(s) 4. sponge (optional) 5. clear embossing powder, Ultra Thick gives the best result 6. magnet pieces or pin backs - - Choose the pigment ink color you wish to use as the background color on your creation. - - Place your shape on a piece of scrap paper and coat the entire shape with the pigment ink using the ink pad as a brush. You achieve better control if you use the tiny ink pads (1"). (I use Colorbox Cat Eyes.) - - Now that the shape is colored with the background color, you can use a sponge if you like to dab a second color lightly on top of it for a more colorful, dimensional look. Or, try 2 or 3 different colors. - - Next, ink up the stamp you have chosen, and stamp on your shape. Choose a color that will stand out against your background. - - Coat the entire shape with clear embossing powder, then heat. I have found that it is best to first re-moisten the ink by blowing on it first. Also, the ink stays moist longer on chipboard than on corrugated. - - Add a magnet piece or pin back to the back of your creation. Variations: - - Instead of coating your shape with a pigment ink for the background color, coat the entire shape with clear embossing ink. Then coat it with your choice of colored embossing powder and heat. - - Next, either: 1. Stamp your image in your choice of colored pigment ink and lightly run the heat gun over it to set the ink. - or - 2. Stamp your image, sprinkle with another color of embossing powder and heat to emboss your image. - or - 3. Embellish your embossed shape by adding ribbon, shells, charms, another, smaller stamped shape, (- use your imagination!) to it using glue, a glue gun, or double-sided foam tape. - - Finish by adding a magnet piece or pin to the back of your creation. I spent yesterday shopping for exotic and handmade papers! I came home with over 25 *different* papers and will be offering them for sale to List members. If you want to see a sample of these, I am making up swatches, which can be ordered for $3.00. If you return all the swatches with your paper order, I will credit you with $2.50 toward your order! I will be selling the exotic papers in 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheets, with a minimum of 10 sheets per order. I will make up grab bags for people who cannot decide or those who do not want to order the swatches or for people who are sending to their SSS. I will also put together custom packs of 10 or more sheets on a first-come, first- serve basis, for an extra $2.00 per order. If there is a demand, I may be offering full sheets (approx 22 x 28 inches--varies from paper to paper) for sale as well. If that appeals to you, please ask. I am going out of town tomorrow and Saturday (buying cardstock!) so am just taking orders for the swatches right now. Once I am back (Sunday) I will post descriptions of all the exotics and prices for the various packages. Just to give a hint, I have banana paper, lace papers, blueprinted papers, papyrus, silkscreened, hand painteds, paste papers, marbles, metallic swirls, petal paper, mirror paper, embossed paper, etc. etc. etc.! I was in paper heaven yesterday! (Can you tell??) As a paper fanatic--I have to say this is the best assortment of paper in one place that I have ever seen! If this sounds exciting to you, please email me!! If I don't get back to you tonight, I will answer everyone on Sunday! I promise the papers will be affordable, too! Thanks!
