As a foster parent, the training was partly to teach us about it, but also about teaching us to teach others about it. They went through a lot of hoops to tell us not to offend those of "alternative lifestyles". We were taught to use "gender neutral" terms like, "partner" instead of "wife" or "spouse". The partner might not be a person's spouse, or even of a different gender. I didn't have any problem with that, either. If you're going to teach someone, you're not going to get anywhere by insulting them. But, they made NO effort to recognize traditional relationships. In fact, they were belittled. "Abstinence is not a valid lifestyle in today's society". Excuse me, but it worked for me. At any rate, I went home very angered. And when I get riled, I get creative. This is the song that resulted: Long-Haired Weirdo By R Mark Hansen I'm just a long-haired weirdo with some strange ideas I'm in love with my wife and she's the only one I please I'm just a long-haired freak with some weirdness demonstrated I was fresh when I got married and I'm sure glad that I waited I'm an old fashioned guy In a modern world Don't push me away I want to be heard I'm just a long-haired weirdo I don't always fit in I think a lie will lead to trouble and a cheater never wins I have a hard time with gray, I don't think the line is thin I never try to justify, I like to call a sin a sin I'm an old fashioned guy In a modern world Don't push me away I want to be heard I'm just a long-haired weirdo and I'm tired of feeling shame For holding up my standards and carrying His name You can say that I'm dogmatic and my views are narrow-minded But I can see to clearly to believe I have been blinded I'm an old fashioned guy In a modern world Don't push me away I want to be heard MRK +++++ Mark or Jodi Hansen HansenArt Rubber Stamps http://www.burgoyne.com/pages/hansnart hansnart@burgoyne.com Want some help with your homepage? I thought I'd pass along a couple of tips I've learned lately for you to play with your new colors with. If these have been posted before, I'm sorry..but I just can't remember who or when or even if. The Pearls work great with Miracle Tape! The border that I like the best is the double stacked one. You lay down a strip of MT..I used 3/8, peel off the backing..then apply another strip about 1/8 down the middle or to one side..what ever pleases you..leave the backing in place on that one. Rub the strips..one nekkid, the other covered with the backing paper, with a Pearl Powder, brush off excess..carefully remove the thin strip backing and rub another color on that. Remove excess. It's great! Nice when you want a more subtle border or accent than a sparkly EP. Since the powders are held in place by the miracle tape, no need to seal. I've wanted to try the rub on Pearls..the ones that are wax based and work like Rub and Buff. But being confined to the house the last few weeks I've had to compromise . I mixed some old fashioned Johnson's Paste Floor Wax with some Powdered Pearls and it worked!!! You can rub it on with your finger and it stays! Hubby said that any wax that DRIES would work too. Stenciling with Powders. I have some stencils of all kinds around here..painting ones, dry embossing, etc.. Use a qtip or stiff brush to tap the powders on the stencil. The outline is softer than with paints or dry embossing, but it works when you want something more subtle. Watch for chapter two soon to follow. Jackie, I can not only tell you but for $5.00 I can show you. To use ums there are a couple of different methods. One is a cling wrap. You take an acrylic block and put vinyl kind of like saran wrap on it then you put your um on it and stamp. When the wrap runs out of sticky then you put a new piece of wrap on it. The other method is called HALOS. This stands for Hooked and Looped on Stamps. With this method you have an acrylic block that has recessed grooves in the block that industrial strength Velcro hook tape fits into. Then you put the loop side of the Velcro on the back of the um (it has a sticky back to it stays) and then you just Velcro the um to the acrylic block. The acrylic allows you to see where you are stamping because it is clear. You can also put more than one um on the mount and create a scene but stamp it all at once. When you want to change ums then you just pull the one off and Velcro the new one on. The loop tape stays permanently on the um. I have a HALOS Trial kit for $5.00 that comes with a 1" x 1" acrylic block and 5 postoid size ums. A postoid is a postage size um and can be used to decorate envelopes or your card. You can see the ums at http://www.kans.com/~stamps/postoids.htm In this kit you will get the frog, one of the birds, one of the butterflies, the dragon holding the heart and the scarecrow looking at the flower. The $5.00 does include shipping and I do take Visa, MasterCard, Discover, checks and money orders. I recently ordered through a local stamp store's catalog party some adorable stamps from Visual Image Printery. Several people have requested information on this list regarding this company. Does any vendor on this list order fromVisual Image Printery? Can a catalog be had? Do they sell only wholesale? I am asking this on behalf of my list friends so please feel free to post to this list. I do not have any of their catalogs...sorry!! The reason I don't have cattys is that I am charged the same amount as retail for them...and then I have to pay shipping. So the cost would be higher for the customer to get the catty from me..make sense?? If you would like the discounted price list, please email me!
