Thanks Heather for hosting this. Being the CoffeeStamper, I have some of the stamps that were used on these cards. I like seeing how someone else uses them too. Tammy Sue-She stamped brown coffee cups on the background, then added to smaller layer papers. On top of this she added a coffee cup with real coffee grounds in it! Neat trick! Nancy-She used cream, flecked cardstock and layered paper ribbon, raffia, and several stamped images. This is an elegant card. Suzanne-She used red card stock and stamped coffee beans and gold swirls on it. Then a layer of brown and then a cut out cup of coffee. Very neatly embossed and colored in. And she even had silver steam-looking paper coming out of the cup. Way cool! Ann-She used tan cardstock and stamped coffee beans on it. Then a layer of cream paper with a coffee cup and a saying stamped on it. And her cat added it's own touch :) Lynn-She used cream caedstock and stamped coffee beans and "Coffee Break" all over it. Then 2 layers of different shades of blue. The top layer is white with a gold embossed coffee cup. Another elegant card. It took up some time and was lots of fun. We have also made sugar cookies and they painted them with colored egg wash before baking. They like that too. Even frosting individual cakes or cookies would be fun and creative. That age loves to make things with thoselittle plastic beads that you fuse together with an iron. In fact, this discovery was so fun I jumped in the junk mobiel (my awefull car) and headed for the stamp store. As I walked in the door, the owner said " hi Deb whats up!??" any new designs for me to see?? how did the soot printing go? I got mine! Wow, what a great box... sent by none other than our own "Mistress of the Hunt", Barb (hee, that sounds kind of... uhm... black leatherish, doesn't it? That wasn't the connotation I was looking for...). This surprise had great timing too. My van was completely totalled in a wreck on Friday (thank G-d my youngest and I have only minor injuries!), my youngest son was bitten by a dog, my oldest son was really sick (nothing too serious... but, still, he is feeling oh so miserable), and we have very very ill relatives. So, the package was a great surprise and gave me quite a lift. Thanks so much Barb! Here's what I got: The box arrived with a full page happy face announcing it as Barb's 1st Scavenger Hunt package; so cheery! But, the return address was my own! Oh, I worried and wondered, was my sender going to keep me in the dark all the way through my package? 1. an angel item--anything you want--magnet, ornament, pin, whatever handmade or not Barb sent me the nicest angel magnet... Plaster, right? But, it's so lightweight. Beautiful! It's a little cherub torso resting it's face on it's hands with outspread wings. All in Gold. Very nice! 2. 1 teeny tiny rubber stamp, mounted How neat! A tiny flower mounted on a three inch dowel. Very cute 3. something sparkly to embellish with Gold glitter - and a full bottle of it, too! I'll really sparkle with this! 4. 3 full sheets (all different) of paper to be used as embellishment What gorgeous paper... and it looks like Barb and Mr. Evo have had the same teacher. I have 4 sheets! Well, actually, 3 sheets of paper and 1 sheet of woven material. The papers are beautiful! I received burgandy Mulberry paper and a light blue and dark blue paper which is thinner and less fibrous than Mulberry paper. What exactly is this? It's so etheral looking. I really like it! The woven material looks like a basket which has been flattened out. Where did you get this? Great stuff! 5. something "sweet" to eat Oh, Jacob (my toddler) and Megan (my 10 year old) (Jared, the oldest, was in bed sick and Chloe, the 7 year old, was away... or else there would have been a chocolate frenzy in my living room!) were so very happy! They dug right into the big bag of York Peppermint Patties you sent! And, Barb, you made sure they were kosher too! Thanks so much! 6. 1 stamped item showing a special technique you like to do and an explanation of how it was done How absolutely beautiful! This is an example of stamping on velvet- hmm, stamping isn't quite the correct term is it? Almost branding, isn't it? Lovely! 7. something "recycled" to use as embellishment on a card AND a card or other stamped item showing HOW TO USE the recycled item Oh, what is this recycled embellishment? Where can I get some more/How can I make some more? This is neat stuff! I want to say it's some sort of mesh bag that fruit comes in... but, how did you get the scalloped edging on both sides? 8. A stamped "Happy to know you" card This was actually the first card in this package that I opened and I think the second item I encountered... and, there was your name! I'm so glad that you didn't keep me in suspense! Such a cute card, with two friends hugging on the front then the basket weave material as a layer. Oh, many hugs going your way too, Barb! 9. a "charm" of some type A very nice and substantial crown charm. 10. a handstamped bookmark In a long and narrow wallpaper envelope... a hunter green bookmark, adorned with a rose image and Bette Midler's lyrics: "Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows, lies the seed that with the sun's love, in the spring, becomes the Rose." Actually, this is a very meaningful lyric for me. This song came out when I was a very young teenager and was trying to reconcile the idea and meaning of love with what I was then receiving from the world (my life was unfortunately full of violence). Funny how important a song can be... 11. a gift appropriate for an upcoming holiday you choose worth $3-5 Oh, Barb, what a thoughtful and wonderful gift! Barb gave me a really great Chanukah flag! This is so wonderful... now, I'm already weepy over the Rose bookmark... and then to have such a thoughtful gift! 12. 1 full sheet glossy card stock carefully stamped with images that can be colored and used by the recipient Really nice botanical images... ivy leaves, potted plants, a friendly scarecrow... and the saying "May Beautiful Things Come Your Way". They already have, Barb, they already have! Thanks so much for the wonderfully thoughtful hunt! My classroom was RAKed by Violetnut. I received a package today (after school) that is filled with goodies. I can't wait to see the students faces when I open it in front of them. I will let you know tomorrow evening what was in it. Thank you so much for the package. This is a really neat lesson that the kids are learning first hand about sharing even with people you don't know. The class has already taken ownership of the things that were received last week. This tells me that they will take better care of them. : ) I have had several other people ask me if it would be alright to send things that they were not using anymore. This would be wonderful since as stated in the RSM article I use all my own supplies. But I do have a couple of requests: 1. If you are send stamps or supplies please send them to the school. The kids are really enjoy this and I think it is a wonderful lesson for them. Mrs. Ryker's Class c/o Wester Elementary 4602 Chicago Ave. Lubbock, TX 79414 2. Please include your addy, not only am I having the student write thank you cards but I have turned it into a map skills lesson. They are locating the places that we are receiving things from. I really enjoy being about to attach meaningful thing to skills that they have to learn. They tend to remember them a little better. Thank you for listening these past few days and letting me be proud of myself and my class. Talk to you tomorrow when the student open the box. : ) Holly Ryker hryker@juno.com This message was from hryker@juno.com (Holly E Ryker) - -- The rubberstampers mailing list is proudly sponsored by the Dueling Modems Arts & Crafts Forum.
