There is a program going around right now called "happy99". It will come attached to an email or attached to a newsgroup message. If you receive this attachment DO NOT RUN IT! You cannot be infected if you do not run it. Delete the email and go to your download or attachments directory and delete "happy99.exe" there as well. When ran it will come up with a fireworks display saying "Happy New Year 1999!!!". If you have already received this file and ran it then you are most likely infected. Luckily this virus/worm does not do any real harm to your system. However, once infected it uses your system to spread itself to all your friends via email attachments to them and you won't even know it's happening. I'm sending this warning out mainly because I received the "happy99" file from someone I sold to or traded with in the last couple weeks but I don't remember who. After checking my system I found that I may have been infected and sent this file out to some of you. I don't believe that it was able to fully install on my system but I want to be safe and warn you. If you want to do a quick check of your system look in your c:\windows\system directory for SKA.DLL and SKA.EXE. You can also look for files in this directory with SKA as the extention. Date: 16 Feb 1999 00:01:32 EST Archive and Unsubscribe information can be found at the bottom of this message. -- ordinarily i dont bother warning anyone about such things as viruses. cuz i figure u should be smart enuff to know what u need to know... but... there is this new one going around.. that when u have it.. sends itself out to everyone u email just before the mail u send first.. its a file called happy99.exe.. and it changes its name to something else.. but it will run itself when u have it on ur computer.. and u wont know u sent it to anyone til they tell u... i got one today in fact.. but i knew what it was so i just deleted it.. and told the person what he had... this is a serious virus.. and will mess up ur computer... as well as anyone elses who downloads it.. it only sends itself to whoever u email and only once.. it seems never twice.. it seems to keep track of who it has emailed. if u are not sure if u have it.. email urself.. and see...or maybe check mail sent but sometimes there are programs that will also delete mail sent so im not sure if this will work or not.. i just wanted to warn everyone who i have any contact with. now.. if u dont download anything with the following extensions u will not have any problems with viruses... exe bat com doc and shs... these are the only files u have to fear.. but of course not all files ending in these letters are going to be viruses.. but these are all executables and therefore can be infected.. opening mail will never ever ever hurt u... u cant get a virus that way ever... other than inserting an infected disc the only way to get one is to download it and to run it.. but some of them will run themselves if they put themselves into ur start up area.. a free virus detection kit is available on aol at keyword--virus info also.. u can get mcafees at www.mcafees.com but u will need updates and they cost.. but its a start... the one that is free on aol will catch programs called trojans which hide inside other programs and which will send ur password out to someone.. its called dr solomans but the one that is available on aol. at the above keyword is only good for aol members. and is free for a short period each time u download it.. if u never download u dont have to worry. and if u do download but never download executables.. again u dont have to worry since u will never get a virus from a wav pic or any other file such as txt or wri.. but u can get one from a doc file.. cuz they may contain macros... and that is sort of like an executable... if u have questions there are areas of ur internet provider where u can learn more about viruses.. and if u are on aol there are many people who will guide u to learn more.. but there is a lot of misinformation about.. so be careful what u believe... sorry for taking up ur time. but its better safe than sorry.. peace... These cards were actually double printed. The basic card set is 75 cards and the sheet size is 80 cards, so 5 were double printed. The problem is that the company which packages Fleer's cards screwed up and did not feed the various stacks of cards properly. Collectors are entitled to a complete set of the basic cards, so there is no reason why Fleer's collector support dept. shouldn't make good on these cards to anyone who calls. After all, they are only basic cards, not chase cards, so it would be much more trouble than its worth for anyone to complain about this problem if they weren't actually having a problem. The cost of a phone call would exceed the cost of the 5 cards. Several people have asked me about this problem, and since it was my project, I felt compelled to get some answers. I can assure everyone, though, that this glitch was purely accidental. They told me that they owuld be issueing a press release soon to notidy us what they would be doing to rectify the situation. I'd rather have the cards personally...;) Also, those who bought Enhanced First COntact..though I cant find the article anymore, it seems to me I recall there being some problems with the packs related to moisture. Be sure and check your cards! If the damage does not seem to be removable, contact Decipher and see how they plan on making good...I gotta go open my packs.
