I spoke to Fleebox today and they said that they did not receive there shipment in from there supplier yet. They expect to be shipping DS9 Golden Moments to there costumers in 2-3 Weeks. The 3 Costumer service reps that I spoke to were all unusually friendly and helpful today. It might be a good day to call them for the stuff you need. All the TOS3 commons i wanted are being mailed my way!! And that missing auto from season 7 is in the mail too. :-) I hope the rest of the day goes like this. I found out the business went out of bussiness, Or bankrupt, Or some other kind of excuse i dont remember. I never got my money back But they did mail me a 9 card promo set as compensation.. Doh!! As my sister would say. That sucks purple veiny moose (Edited). :o I agree there should be a limit on the number of sets any one person or dealer can get. I myself am only getting one set. It would of been nice to get 2 or more. I could of traded or sold them later. But that meens 1 or more honest collectors would not be getting a set at cost. So i didnt do it. I have a bottle of spring water Mira Furlan (Delenn from Babylon5) was drinking at a Valley Forge con. The only proof I have is a photo of her at the autograph table with the bottle next to her. A friend has a (china) coffee cup and a plastic drinking glass, both of which were used by Patrick Stewart; the first at a Charity dinner she attended, the second at the podium of a con she attended. For her, the authentication doesn't matter, because she knows they're legit and will never sell them. For me, someday, I'll have to find an expert in "half-full spring water bottles". I won an item - a Voyager signed press kit - for about $300. I certainly wouldn't have paid any more for it. Anyway, it arrived here in the UK in a damaged condition. It had only been posted in a padded envelope with cardboard covering only half the press kit. In my view that is not acceptable packaging for trans-Atlantic postage, I wouldn't even send anything like that by ordinary mail. So I posted a neutral feedback (could have been -ve but wasn't), saying prompt service shame about the packaging. This company then left me a neutral feedback saying it wasn't their fault it was the post office's (which it wasn't). This is my first non-positive feedback ever and raises a couple of points: 1. Can we leave anything other than +feedback, or else just get the same back, even if we pay promptly and fairly? 2. What has a justification for their lack of service got to do with my feedback rating anyway? There is a slot to respond to feedback elsewhere. Sorry for going on, it just seems a bit unfair to me. Technically, you shouldnt. A transaction can have a good bidder and a bad seller or visa versa. Problem is getting both parties to honestly report their opinions without ruffled feathers. > > 2. If they did not pack it properly, people need to know so they can request better shipping or insurance or something. THe seller needs to be nudged as well, to make sure they understood it wouldn't work. Packaging collectibles is a vital issue fr us We want mint stuff. Anyone who doesn't get that part is someone we dont' want to spend money on. (not that accident's don't happen, they do. Not all my stuff has arrived safely! In my opinion, for whatever that is worth, is that it would depend on what steps were taken to resolve the issue PRIOR to the posting of the feedback .Was this their first indication of a problem? Did they refund your payment or if they didnt' why not? How much was paid for shipping? I don't think the feedback forum should be the parties first indication of a problem. I learned my lesson early on. I Even got one person kicked off eBay because of it. :) I try to avoid negitive feedback thing with a little common sense. If it's expensive and far away, Dont bid on it. Chance are it will get mangled in the mail. If you never hear from someone for a month call them on the phone. If you get little or no responce from them within 30 days then i leave NEGITIVE feedback. I do this on the 30th day from end of auction. I,v done it about half dozzon times now. We all like our items to arrive as mint as when they left there previous owners. So far i,m batting 1000 in this game. Nothing i,v shiped has ever been damaged. I use Oversized boxes for everyhing I ship. Leaving no room for chance. I,ll even use a box in a box for the expensive stuff. I dont ever want to get that email saying there stuff got damaged.. I dont ever want to give someone there money back either. ;) As for Arif's situation. If Your not happy with it send the item back for refund. Insist on it if necessary. I,v done this dozzons of times. It's amazing how many people there are that have no clue on how to ship ANYTHING! A bunch of idiots if ya ask me. Most people are sorry and send back your money no problem, after they recive the item back of cource. Only 2-3 times I have had people tell me to keep the item and sent me back a refund too. It's all in how you present yourself. I,v never been put into a position to leave a neutral feedback. It's either Good, Or bad. That brings up to a whole other issue...are you due your money back? Did they offer? I feel that it is my job to make sure the product gets their safely and to package it, but I think it's the buyers to pay for it. Some products I make a tidy profit on, so the cost of replacement, if needed, would just mean I lose my profit. Other things, the profit margin is so tight that a lost package would really hurt. I don't overcharge for shipping. everyone gets charged exact shipping. I COULD however, set a rate, include a handling fee and overcharge for shipping. I prefer the approach of keeping prices fair, but covering my shipping expenses. But, overseas presents a while other issue. Most overseas customers want no insurance and little declared value. I believe, then, and state it, that the onus is on the collector and if lost so be it. I will do my part and pack well and ship. some overseas customers will want you to carry the risk. I don't know that that is fair, they win both ways and I could lose big time. As agreeable as I'd like to be, I tend to shy away from that. My own view is this, if an overseas customer (and I am one) request no insurance then they must carry the can for that. That's the gamble's that's taken...it's not your problem. On this particular item, I requested a value of $100 rather than $300. So in theory if I was to ask for my money back, I should only expect $100. But it's more complicated by the fact that it's the seller's fault for the damage - not mine, not the post office. So should this person owe me the full whack or only $100? I think it's the full $300 (in theory) because when you think about it, insurance doesn't come into this example. But when and if you get one of them, there's always something else you need? I'm hoping to clinch a deal to buy one of my top wants - a hardcover novel of TMP limited to 500 and signed and numbered by Gene Roddenberry. I just hope it works out, no guarantees yet. Anyway, I was just curious what each of us have as their top three wanted items. They're likely to be difficult to find but try and make them at least possible that one day it could happen. In other words Captain Kirk's bridge chair is out. My top 3 is: 1. A unopened box of 1969 A+BC cards. 2. The advance press kit brochure for TNG complete, boxed with T-shirt. 3. Kevin Francis toby jug of "Data", narrowly beating a Mego Romulan. I hope my list's based on reality but as Uhura put it, "This isn't reality, this is fantasy." So what are yours? (I had one I thought for SURE they wouldn't pay, uncut sheet protected with two sheets of paper towels!!!!!, but they paid so I didn't get to test the idea that the seller would have to pay me if the USPS said no )If not packed well, then (in theory) you should get $300 since they didn't do their part, in reality they can claim, that they should only be out $100. I would be hard pressed to argue either stance. but if I had to pick, I'd say you were due the full $300. There's somebody here (he knows who he is :kiss kiss: )with strict rules of how something is to be shipped, rules that to the unawares may seem outlandish, but by dippy, after a few years, I agree....;) If you get insurance or not, it remains my job as an honorable seller to pack well. I agree that it's always the seller's responsibility to pack well, no matter what, but if the buyer only wants the item insured for $100. that's all anybody should be responsible for, IMO. I mean, why would the buyer only want to pay for $100 if they really want $300-worth of insurance? If you expect to get a $300 refund, then you actually want to be covered for $300, right? If you want to be coivered for $300, then pay for $300. What's the difference in cost, about $5? You don't wanna pay the extra $5, but you want the seller to cough up an extra $200? Sorry, not fair, IMO. Bear in mind, in this scenario, the package has been undervalued for the purposes of the customs form. A full value of $300, gets you taxed at $300 (in some countries as high as 27% of the value). It was not undervalued to avoid paying insurance fees. The bigger question is does the fact proper care was not taken mean if the insurance doesn't cover it because it wasn't packed well should the seller have to pay it himself and if he didn't do all he could do, an the insurance is voided, does he owe the whole cost or just the now no-good insured cost? Don't know for sure on this, but I believe that the PO would pay, despite the poor packing job. At least that's the way it seems to go with a package being mailed between 2 US addresses. Since this one involved 2 different postal systems, there might have been a big todo as to whose fault the damage was. Here's my "damaged parcel" story: I won an eBay auction for a 9" Captain Kirk figure (I think it was the "Mirror, Mirror" one) that was describes as MIMB. When it arrived, the box was crushed, apparently because the seller put it in another box that was just barely big enough to hold it; when the outer box got crushed, so did the inner one. I had cosen NOT to get insurance, as I had always had good luck sending a LONG paragraph of instructions along with my payment, asking for certain care in packaging. This guy either didn't bother to read it or just idn't care. Anyway, when I wrote him about it, he said that, for all he knew, I crushed the box because I changed my mind about wanting the item. He wouldn't reimburse me for the shipping in either direction, only the actual selling price of the figure. What a jerk! Having seen them in "Trek Collecting" mags and vbooks for years, I just hadda have 'em. Think of me as being to general Trek collecting just as obsessed as Lynne is with Trek cards. Also, I think it was Ben that made reference to a book called simply, "Star Trek" written by someone named "James Lely". They will take the order but politely tell you in several weeks that they cannot find it. The best online source I've found for out-of-print books is the metasearch site www.bookfinder.com . It searches Amazon, Bibliofind, and other book sites. A copy of the Lely book was just listed, but I don't think it's worth the $20 asking price in ex-lib condition. (The Lely book is not anything special. It's part of a children's TV/movie tie-in series (SW, Battlestar Galactica, etc) which explains ST. I've borrowed it from my library system, but want a copy mostly because I don't have one yet!) He's got 1 Pos And 1 neg. The neg is from someone who had the same item for sale and didnt get paid on it. And the Pos is from someone i,v done business with before. Needless to say i,m a bit concerened here. It's alot of money. In eBays rules it states I can cancel this users bid. IF: a. Bidder contacts you to back out of the bid. b. You cannot verify the identity of the bidder, after trying all reasonable means of contact. c. You want to end your auction early because you no longer want to sell your item. In this case you must cancel all bids on your auction before ending the auction. OK, So my question is what is reasonable means of contact? How do I verify the identity of the bidder? Am I going to make a Long distance call to Australia? Ieee dont think so.. I'v sent this person an email asking for an explaination refering to the neg feedback. And an Aproximation of what shipping cost would cost him. Air mail and Surface mail. It's almost been 24Hs and No responce yet. What should I do? What can I do? I mean, worse case scenario, he doesn't pay for it. You can get your fees back form ebay (most of it it), but the items stays with you, so you can't lose that and you can offer it to the second highest bidder. Seller feedback is important to me, bidder feedback doesn't bend me out of shape too bad. COurse I don't get bent if i dont' get paid either, I just plod along to the next tranaction. It doesnt go any faster or any slower as it does on this side. :o hehehehe.. ;) I waited over 72 Hrs for a responce and at that point I didnt get any. So I canceled the bid. But at the 4 day mark I did get an email from them and the excuses were pretty lame. I got some tips from eBay I,d like to share too. Hello Jeff, Thank you for your question about cancelling a bid. There are a couple of things that you can remember about your auction. You are well within your rights to cancel a bid that you don't feel comfortable with, especially if you don't believe that the bidder will honor their bid. Below are a few steps that you can take to assure a successful auction experience in the future. 1. You may want to consider adding to your listing that you aren't accepting bids from users who have a pattern of negative feedback. Specify what you consider to be excessive, such as users with 5 negative feedback comments in the last month, for an example. 2. Follow through with that specification. Check the feedback profile of the bidders on your auctions. This will give you an idea of the type of user you are planning to conduct business with. 3. If you find that a user who you feel is not qualified to bid on your auctions (based on the standards you posted in your listing) or a user that you are not comfortable dealing with has bid on your auction, you may want to consider cancelling their bid from your auction. The URL for this is listed below for your reference. Please consider emailing the user first before cancelling the bid to get their side of the situation. There may be a legitimate reason why the bidder didn't follow though on some bids, ie, family emergency, illness, etc. http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/seller-cancel-bid.html 4. If you find that after corresponding with the user that you do in fact want to cancel their bid, please email them afterward letting them know that you have cancelled their bid and let them know that you will not be accepting their bids on your auctions in the future. Save a copy of this email for your records. 5. After notifying the user to not bid on your auctions in the future, if that user bids again on that auction or another, please forward a copy of the email that you sent to the user with a brief explanation of the situation and the item number of the auction they are currently a bidder on to safeharbor@ebay.com. These are all things that you can do to safeguard yourself and assure a pleasant transaction with your winning bidder. We wish you continued success and many happy transactions in the future. -- To Unsubscribe from TrekChat send and put "unsubscribe trekchat" in the body without the quotes. -- Previous message archives are available via WWW at: or via FTP at: ftp.xmission.com --in-- /home/ftp/pub/lists/trekchat/archive ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Lynne Stewart" Subject: Re: (TrekChat) Canceling a Bid eBay style Date: 26 Oct 1999 08:16:42 -0400 ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Tuesday, October 26, 1999 5:07 AM > Lynne Stewart wrote: > >(ask me how I turned an A59 Nimoy card into a Shatner A1 sold at > > $585, a Nimoy card sold at $250 and a Q auto sold at $35.....:giggle:) > > Ok, How? ;) SImple, traded a Nimoy for an A1 Shatner. While I would expect someone who's active in auctions to normally log on more often than that, I'd agree that a LOT more than 24 hours is appropriate. Depending on what the situation is, I usually make 3 attempts to eMail someone (I add "resend #2, #3, etc" to the subject so both they and I know how hard I'm trying) and, unless time is limited, I wait 2 weeks or more after the last eMail before I try other action. Obviously, if you have the option to relist an iem or sell it to the second highest biddere, then you might want to wrap things up sooner, but the key is to realize that people have lives and for some of them, the auction isn't priority #1. I know it's sick, but it's the truth! Remind me to post the last few emails between me and a renigging bidder from my last sale on eBay; what a rude, ignorant person! How many of us, as sellers, check a bidder's feedback before assuming they'll complete a deal? Personally, I NEVER check a bidder's feedback until I'm getting ready to post negative on them, myself. Given the items involved, I'd contact the 2nd highest bidder, let them know what's going on and ask if they might want the items IF you're unable to get satisfaction from the winner by a certain date. At least you'll know whether you should plan to relist or not. I'd also ask eBay how long you can wait and still get a free relisting. But I did recieve a few steps that you can take to assure a successful auction experience in the future. I got them from eBays safeharbor. Defined as bidders who win an auction but never follow through with the transaction.. Upon receiving a credit request from a seller for non-payment by the bidder, eBay will automatically send a warning email to the user accused of bidding and not paying. The user will receive two warnings before suspension. On the third instance, the user will be suspended for 30 days. A fourth offense will result in indefinite suspension from eBay.
