The best decryption i found says Length of existence; age. or Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic. or Old or outmoded. I,m not sure what it means in terms of value. I guess value means it's worth what you think it's worth. There was this one person who thought a silver handle from Apollo 11 was worth $34,500. I,m, sure it could of been obtained for less than a hundred dollars if it wasnt vintage. ;) Or flown in sapce. Or from Apollo 11. I looked up classic in the dictonary and it even uses star trek as an example. How about that? An adjective used before or after a noun to describe the original version of something. This construction is especially used of product series in which the newer versions are considered worse than the older ones. Examples include "Star Trek Classic" - the original TV series as opposed to the films, ST The Next Generation or any of the other spin-offs and follow-ups; or "PC Classic" - IBM's ISA-bus computers as opposed to the PS/2 series. Since I could not remember dealing with them, I looked them up on the web. They turn out to be one of these companies which allow people to buy and sell by creidt card, like Pay Pal. The trouble is that I still don't know what the item was, and have no memory of it. And my e-mail to Verotel went unanswered. I could challenge it through my credit card company, but the point is that I probably did buy something. I just wish there was some system to find out what it is. Pay Pal etc are great, but I have discovered a downside to them as well. I would challenge it, if they are legit, they will be able to provide documentation backing up their claim. Send them an email stating that if you can't be provided some verification, you will have to dispute the charges. If they still don't respond, that's their problem! That's right. When it comes right down to it Paypal offers NO protection
against users that abuse there service. Read the article. Its very
enlightening.

This is no longer true with PayPal.  The only catch is the person you are sending money to has to be a "verified seller."  This means they have to have registered their checking account number.  Out of the past 10 PayPal payments I've made I think only 1 of them was verified.

I just know it's verotel, and when I rang them up someone said there would be noone in the office until Tuesday. My e-mail has been ignored. I don't seem to be able to contact them. When you do that, the CC company will go to the seller and make them cough up proof of the purchase. Problem with these third party bilkers is how do THEY know, they don't, really, but hopefully, they can know WHO it was billed for and then go to that person and ask them to provide proof. We of Star Trek enlightenment all know that all the ST episodes in all the ST series are far and above Emmydom. Hollywood is too afraid to admit their personal highest votes to ST. After all, then they would be opening themselves to scathing ridicule from the insignificant but loud mouthed folks who do not understand or like science, let alone S. Fi. Can you just imagine the "field day" the tabloids alone would have. Celebs with Vulcan ears ect. The fact that ST is stronger now than ever, after debuting in 66 over 30 yrs ago is beyond any Emmy. Can you imagine how many closet Trekkers there are? Just thought I would put my 2 cents in , especially since I have been around since the beginning, 1966, and was a SCI Fi fan before ST aired , And you guys are finally talking about something in my collection, figures, pogs and cards! All of my figures are from 92-94 if memory serves me correctly, they are safely packed away unopened. Jeff are you saying that Pogs alone went for 80 at one time? Or is that just Dathon's Pog? I have "scanned" the web over for some kind of idea of what some of my stuff is worth without too much success. I have not collected much since 95. I do have quite a few things and have been lurking here hoping to gain some insight as I want to sell some of my stuff. Jeff, your ship SIG is way cool! Don't despair, there isn't an Emmy worthy of ST. Connie ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Sunday, September 10, 2000 10:31 PM > > Not Voyager. Fi. Isnt that the truth. Just recently I was reading about some of the accomplishments Michael Westmore had done in the past. This guy has been around for a long time. And has done many things that I did not know of. He's been the makeup artist for many of my favorite shows. Such as H.R. Pufnstuf (1969) ,Land of the Lost (1974) , The Rocky movies, Capricorn One (1978) , Raging Bull , 2010, and MacGyver just to name a few. I could go on, But there's too much to say about him. This is a great makeup artist. > Can you imagine how many closet Trekkers there are? Too many to be counted. And there are crossover Trekkers too. For Example, Watch Jeri Ryan do the Time Machine. http://www.maxwelldemille.com/time-machine.html > Jeff are you saying that Pogs alone went for 80 at one time? > Or is that just Dathon's Pog? Yes, The dathon with pog did sell for about $80 a few years ago. Other RARE action figures with "pogs" such as the canadian sarek or luxanna troi went for $150 each. Those came out in 94 I think. You might have them! The pogs are more desirable. Makeing them (Here comes that word again) "Worth" More! Nowadays you would spend just as much on a single action figure "card" as you did in the store when they came out. Or More! Right now, Everything we have is only worth what these people are paying for them: http://pages.ebay.com/search/items/search.html eBay rules the world when it comes to "Worth". Do a search on a particular item and I bet you will find it. If not, look next week. IT will be there in one form or another. If you have really Old STuff. IT's good that you slowed down 5 years ago. You would be broker that you are now. ;) I ended up selling Most All my Action figures, Toys, And Micromachines last year. Mostly because they took up way too much room. I narrowed down my intrests to trading cards. The autograph cards in particular should be a nice investment down the line. If not, I,ll still like them because CARDS is what I really liked the most out of eveything else I had collected. Lynne I can't say for cards, but for money (paper currency as well as coins), this is called an error coin or printing error and is worth money to the collector. The mint has a QC system that's supposed to prevent errors from EVER getting into circulation. Being the government, though, this doesn't always work. I'm sure the card folks have QC but whether that makes these collectible is a big question. Like adding a foil stamp or embossing it or putting a clear glossy coating on it. It may even contain an alien language only seen on an angle. > Also those plastic cards ... what are they going to compare to in rarity? > Would it be similar to the captain's cards? > > And finally does anyone know what's the latest with action figures? I guess I'm glad you aren't after them... one less person to bid against ;) > 1. can't sotre them or display them easily True, they are "bigger" than the average card. Currently I have them stored, I plan on framing them all and putting them up in my unfinished basement when I finish them. I figure most people will enjoy my cards much more mounted on a wall in a nice frame than stored in a binder. > 2. You'll NEVER have a complete set, I mean, what are the odds of finding on > uncut Leaf set???? I enjoy each of my 'special' sheets. I've found some very unique items. How many people even have one sheet of uncut Roddenberry sets? I don't need to complete every set. I'd be insane to try. I don't even have half the autos. I have to chase something. Most uncut sheets are considerably cheaper than most autos. And, I think they are pretty rare/unique. If value is a factor, I think they have some... I KNOW they do for me! > 3. The ones I collect are specialty items. I especially like the items that are not produced for the main stream, like the conventions. I have a number of uncut sheets of cards, stickers, etc. from the local conventions. One of the other reasons I like them is that they are usually very limited, but as you say are harder to store or display. For that reason, most people pass them by so they are somewhat easier to obtain than a specific limited card out of a set. I don't usually look for uncut sheets but I definately try to pick them up if I see them - and the price is right. Not everyone is gonna have the same levels. And that's ok, too. I suppose my feeling is I obsess to such a degree on the things I decide I DO collect that keeping some control over the misc areas, like sheets, is one way to let me enjoy that part I do pursue! Etters" Subject: Re: (TrekChat) uncut card sets Date: 01 Jan 2000 06:06:49 -0500 I Have a two uncut sheets of cards of equal size purchased in 1992. They are very nice, and I thought they would be spectacular to frame. Have never done so and I have to cut some room here. I would be willing to sell for 75.oo plus shipping. They are still in the shipping tube, mint. If you like STTNG these are a must have great, going to be hard to part with now that have looked at them again. You have 100 cards on both sheets, they were printed by Impel Marketing, Authorized user of Paramount with their official stamp, released in 1992. The margins on the out side of the cards is large enough that framing would not cover anything up. One sheet consists of great pics through the fifth season, crew portrait shots, ships, equipment, shots with different characters from all the popular episodes, in holo dech costuming, ect. It even has a portrait memorization/ tribute card of Gene Roddenberry. The cards of above are grouped logically and artistically on a background that is very lovely with varying shades of med. blue, fading to midnight blue to blue black that is in a consistent pattern that looks like "outer space" with tiny white flecks "stars" in the lightest blue. The darkest bands are at top and bottom behind pics and fades to the lightest hue in center . These are background outside of card. the cards are placed symmetrically and artfully on this background. This sheet would beg to be framed with glass on both sides because the back has additional great color photos and information. The second sheet also has 100 cards, with a stunning light, fade to dark burgundy background. When I first viewed this sheet I was disappointed because there are actually only 20 different cards on it but the rows are repeated symmetrically and results in a great visual effect. These are technical cards and have artistically enhanced images on the fronts with schematics on the back also listing the higher or main system that they fall under. Also detailed technical data, for example Main Bridge Aft Stations: Command Systems The AFT section of the main bridge contains auxiliary ship and mission control stations. These stations do not require constant attention and are only manned when necessary. Two science stations provide real-time data to the command personnel and are used by mission specialists who have to coordinate activities with the bridge. The Missions Ops station provides support to the OPS officer and coordinates secondary objectives. The Environmental Systems station allows monitoring and control of the support systems aboard the USS Enterprise and can serve as a deputy operations management station in crisis situations. The Engineering systems' monitor duplicates the Chief Engineer's primary status displays from the Main Engineering section. I will list these since there are only twenty. I will list the two in each row that are side by side (then those same images are repeated four times in the exact same order top to bottom , thus creating a stunning effect) artificial gravity generation - transporter theory and operation warp propulsion system - shuttlecraft classifications navigational deflector systems - captain's yacht bussard ramscoop - holodeck environment simulation theory warp drive nacelles - dilithium crystals ship's computer - inertial damping system main bridge aft stations - saucer module separation systems tactical systems - emergency landing of saucer module operations management [OPS] - external and internal coordinate system flight control [CONN] - flight information input I would have to double glass this sheet as well. Both sets are full sized regular thickness with a very light "sheen" coating or finish. Both sheets are the same size. The background on the back is white and each card has the official Paramount logo. I do not want to roll them out to measure because I am afraid of creasing ect. but they are laid out horizontally ten cards wide and ten cards deep with extra room at borders as well as the extra room that uncut cards have. If anyone is interested and wants the measurement I can have my husband help me. Thanks, Connie ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2000 10:24 AM > I tend to agree with Robert. Date: 29 Sep 2000 18:45:04 -0700 OK, I just got ripped, and I suspect others will too. I have heard that there are fakes of the RoddenBerry sets out there. There is suddenly a glut of them on ebay. I happen to have a few of the original packs, not all of them. I was pretty excited to pick up an entire set of 19 packs (I know there are really 20, but that last one is rarer) for a reasonable price. They came today. I've asked for my money back and hope the seller will honor it. They are fakes. First, all the cards are cut exactly the same size, and as many of you know, I'm sure, these vary in size quite a bit, even within the same pack. Second, the print quality is really poor compared to my original set, lastly, the 'numbered' sheet has a really poorly copied number, lots of ink missing in the area of the number, I suspect it didn't copy as well. Just thought you should all be aware. There is suddenly a glut of them on ebay. It looks like this ebay seller bought these sets from the www.talkcity.com website and is re-selling them on ebay. Talk City has these for $20.00 for all 19 sets. Even the picture that the ebay seller used is from the talkcity website. Great info. They are selling fakes. This same seller tried to list it a few months ago for $10,000. Every time I ordered from QVC I ended up returning the sheet because it got damaged in shipping. It always takes them 2-3 attempts to deliver me a mint sheet. Each time the tube would be crushed and the sheet creased right in the middle. Or the sheet would bounce up and down in the tube and get messed up on the ends. They became wise to that problem and started adding a thin foam liner wrapped with the sheet. This did help. But did not cure the shipping problem associated with mailing sheets in a tube.
