In fact, many of the new cards work hand-in-glove with your existing cards to offer new strategic possibilities. Just like the premiere starters, Deep Space Nine starter decks will contain 60 cards: 2 rares, 13 uncommons and 45 commons. And just like premiere starters, they will be randomized. However, thanks to an innovative sorting process, these starter decks will also be "playable." Our process will ensure that almost every starter deck, while randomly assorted, is playable right out of the box. So what does this mean? It means every deck, statistically speaking, will have enough missions, outposts, ships and personnel to build and play a legal deck. Just the ticket for those friends of yours who want to stick their toe in the water before jumping in feet-first with the rest of us. So this means you're going to end up with tons of common missions, right? Not at all. We've greatly reduced the occurrence of duplicate common missions by creating sixteen "bonus" commons to take their place in the expansion packs and in a portion of each starter deck. (This is why the set size was increased from 260 to 276). From a collecting standpoint, this means that not only do those common missions keep from becoming "binder fodder," but the set also includes 16 additional cards basically "for free." In other words, you're collecting 276 cards for the price of 260. What this means for the collectors among us is that each expansion pack will contain 9 cards randomly assorted from 260 of the 276 cards in the Deep Space Nine set, while the other 16 (the common missions) are exclusive to starter decks -- usually 6 or 7 of them in each starter. I have two other things to share, about things you can be looking forward to in the Deep Space Nine cards. First, there is a whole new quadrant to play in! The Gamma Quadrant, accessed via the Bajoran Wormhole, will have brand-new missions for every affiliation. The fact that there are now two different quadrants to explore creates some interesting hiding and trapping strategies. And, although this set features the two new, fully playable affiliations (Bajoran and Cardassian), we have not forgotten the other major Alpha Quadrant empires. Federation, Klingon and Romulan players will each get a handful of new personnel and ships, plus plenty of other new cards to help their deck strategies. -- James & Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. 2805 Oakcliff Ct Johnson City, TN 37601 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Home of the AMOK TIMES NEWSLETTER-Info on Star Trek Collectibles KLM CARDS-Trek cards and stuff for sale! I do a lot of buying on eBay. Probably over $5000.00 worth of stuff in the last 5 months. I recently got my first piece of negative feedback and posted my first piece, as well. I wasn't going to post neg f/b until I saw that the other individual felt it was OK to slam me. Here's my version of what happened. You all need to make up your own minds: The seller (who, in a mature manner, feels it's necessary to have a different pseudonym as his/her eBay user name and another as his/her e-mail address - neither of which bear any relationship to his/her real name, I'm sure) is known on eBay as: washtepeshe His/Her e-mail address is: wenaki@micron.net OK, so here's what happened: I was high bidder on 2 of his/her items. In one case, my wife, not knowing I had been bidding on it, saw it in a retail store locally and brought it home as a gift for me. This happened within a day or less of my winning the item in auction. Not realizing that they were available locally, I had bid up to about $60 for the item my wife picked up in the neightborhood for less than $20. So I wrote to the seller and asked - not demanded, just asked - if I could get out of the deal, explaining what had happened. Well, that's when I realized I had stepped into immaturity and auction HELL! The name-calling and totally irrelevant accusations began immediately. I was a scum bag, because I had been on both his/her items in the last moments of the auction (not sure why that's a bad tiong) and if I was gonna cancel on the one item, then I wasn't allowed to acquire the other, either. He/she also threatened to leave negative feedback if I didn't hold up my end of the deal. Well, that ticked me off, and I decided I wasn't gonna buy the overpriced item no matter wat. I told him/her that the option of leaving negative feedback was certainly within his/her rights, but that I'd appreciate his/her looking at my feedback file, first. Up until this time, all feedback for me was glowingly positive. Firthermore, I said that i would really like the second item and would also be willing to pay any costs associated with the need to relist the overpriced item. Initially, this was accepted and then came the demand for a money order - nothing else would do. Now, to be honest, this info may have even been in the item description, but tht's incidental. I advised that money orders are difficult for me to get, because my job's hours overlap the Post Office's "open" times on both ends of the day. I also suggested that he/she check my feedback to see that I was a good payer. Apparently, none of this was good enough; I HAD to send a money order. Well, I managed to get out of work early enough one day to get a money order and off it went. =20 Upon informing the seller that the MO was on the way, I was informed that he/she had sold the one item he/she had and I'd either have to take back my money order or wait for delievery of another. I expressed my disappointment over being told it was available and would ship immediately upon receipt of the MO and then it was no longer available. I said I'd wait for another to come in. A week or so later, I get the MO back in the mail, no note of explanation, nothing. I decided to drop the whole thing, realizing I was dealing with either a jerk, an immature individual or a mentally disturbed person. A day or two passes and I decide to take a look at my feedback file and there, despite his/her stated decision NOT to leave any negative comments, was a very nasty piece of work. Well, suffice it to say that I strongly recommend that you all have no dealings with this individual: Tracey Kline 2014n Fillmore st Jerome ID 83338 Appreciate earing the thoughts of tose who had the time to read this far. Curtis Engel" Subject: (TrekChat) TOS2 collation speculation Date: 11 Jul 1998 21:12:10 -0800 Archive and Unsubscribe information can be found at the bottom of this message. -- (Sorry, this got a bit long...) As I mentioned on-list about a week ago, I got my replacement TOS2 autograph from Skybox; it was card A51 (Stephen Brooks). Skybox had told me that only two cards (Brooks and Bouchet) were available for those who didn't get autographs in their purchased boxes. This week, I got my factory sealed and numbered (21,xxx) replacement box from them for my second miscollated box, and interestingly, the autograph card inside was A51 (damaged! Can't they do anything right?!). My speculation/question for the group: Because the probability of getting A51 in a box versus a different autographed card is low (even if it is one of the more common autographs), I'm speculating that replacement boxes (for miscollated boxes) will ALL have either the Brooks or Bouchet autograph card. Can anyone else who have received replacement boxes confirm or refute this? Any other comments on this? I'm also speculating that there may be a HUGE difference in the numbers of different autograph cards distributed. We know that Shatner etc. are quite rare, but I suspect there are other cards (A51?) produced in quantities sufficient to asphyxiate an equestrian critter. Another interesting tidbit that suggests non-random collation: unlike most boxes in my experience, this replacement box has *exactly* the prescribed ratios of all the subset cards. Since the autograph card in my replacement box is damaged (scuffed down to the white in two places on its face), I'll have to request yet another replacement; however, since I already have an A51, I'm going to ask for the Bouchet card instead. If they don't, I'll have an A51 to trade for another autographed card. (It just occurred to me that this brings up another interesting question: What if my scuffed autograph card was Shatner, rather than Mr. Red Shirt? Does Skybox have a stock of extra autographed Shatner cards (or for that matter, any card other than Brooks & Bouchet) for this contingency? If not, how would they resolve the situation? I suspect they would try to get away with substituting Brooks or Bouchet.) The most entertaining part of this whole affair thus far is the letter that accompanied my replacement box: "Quality audits taken during and after the production process have not revealed any collation problems." Do the others on this list agree that our collective experience suggests that there were some collation problems? (I got my box replaced, and I seem to recall that J!m encountered collation problems even worse than mine.) C. I would agree with you there, though Skybox gave out quantities of autos for Season One, they have steadfastly refused to quote numbers this time. As of yet, they haven't said how many of each auto was printed, which I take to mean, we may faint were we to find out...;) > > > > (It just occurred to me that this brings up another interesting question: > What if my scuffed autograph card was Shatner, rather than Mr. Red Shirt? > Does Skybox have a stock of extra autographed Shatner cards (or for that > matter, any card other than Brooks & Bouchet) for this contingency? THey have to keep a certain number in stock, now what happens after they run out in an interesting question??!!! I sent in a mirror card for replacement and got one and surely Skybox is aware that an A51 is no replacement for a Shatner!!! > > > The most entertaining part of this whole affair thus far is the letter that > accompanied my replacement box: "Quality audits taken during and after the > production process have not revealed any collation problems." Due to an unforeseen production issue, the expansion release date must be changed from July 15 to July 22, 1998. This short delay will assure that all retailers have the opportunity to receive their Deep Space Nine Starter and Expansion Set orders in time for the same International release date. This change is as disappointing to us as we know it is for you. The production and distribution processes are each composed of several distinct steps. When any one part of these processes is disrupted, the entire release is affected. We are sorry for the concern this causes to our loyal players, collectors and retailers. The cards of the expansion will thus become tournament legal and regional qualifier legal July 22, 1998. Decipher will fulfill its promise to deliver an exciting and well-designed expansion of 276 cards, sold in both 60-card starter decks (12 per display) and 9-card booster packs (30 per display). Initial reports of the set from the July 4 pre-release tournament at Origins are good. "Spectacular cards" and "very balanced, very playable starter decks," are just two of the remarks we've received that comment favorably on the set's integrity and execution in play. We'll continue to reveal the cards through the Web site so that you are prepared to take the cards and integrate them into your Star Trek Customizable Card Game deck designs. Again, we apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you for your patience, your understanding and your support. -- James & Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. 2805 Oakcliff Ct Johnson City, TN 37601 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Home of the AMOK TIMES NEWSLETTER-Info on Star Trek Collectibles KLM CARDS-Trek cards and stuff for sale! Not looking for envy or oooooo I hate you cause you got that sort of thing, just people slobbering over cool cards.....there's nobody 'round here to do that with and my mother, though tolerant...well.....heheheee SO, once a week, I am going to post a message it will have CARD SET CHAT in the subject, (that way you can ignore it if you chose!) If you are so inclined, grab your binder, look up the set and jump in about what you like about the set!!! If you don't have the set yet, comment anyway on perhaps what is holding you back...would you take a lower grade set just to have it or whatever you think. I am going to use the complete card checklist as my guide for this tour. It could be silly bavvle or a lot of fun, not sure, but I've walked out on slimmer limbs before....;) I will post this today (sunday), but from now on, will post the inital message on Monday, we can chat for a few days or whatever on that particular set. ***************** TODAY'S SET: 67 LEAF set Well, I can open a binder, but it ain't full.....;) I have being collecting this set for a couple of years little by little. I decided to settle for a EX+ set, so I tolerate pretty much anything but creases, bends or really wicked gum stains. I bought a display box, it was 'cheap' since it had writing on the bottom, some kid's name...;) I have SOLD for others two NM sets, that were beautiful, really hard to let go of, but man, that's alot of $$$$. The scens and backs are pretty freaky. I would ADORE to finally find someone who knows all about how this set was made....... I don't collect any of the reprint sets. I wouldnt mind having a set for informational reasons or to see what they all look like, but not to *collect*. I suuuur would love to know if the euro set was really from 67, though! I wonder if there would be a way to make cards like the US set, with the white gray white stock like they did for that set and then make a MINT selling MINT sets....;) Makes me nervous to think about! Is this set the 'god' of all sets or is there something you would consider more awesome in your collection?? That he had bought upt a store's inventory and that was one of them and he was clueless as to what it was...CAN YOU IMAGINE! Hey, it's nice to be wanted! Here is our plan for the next few months, outlining several ways in which you wil be able to get hold of them. When they are known, we're mentioning specific dates. Preview Period May 8-June 11 Beginning May 8, Marcus and Kyle will personally distribute Away Team packs through their personal appearances at Cons, gaming events and tournaments. Since the initial demand for the cards is great, please respect that The Emissary and The Traveler must limit distribution to one pack per person. Check the Star Trek CCG experts' tour schedules. Note: Away Team cards are not tournament legal in sanctioned events during the preview period. June 12 & 13 Decipher will introduce the Away Team card pack to sanctioned tournament play through a worldwide series of Star Trek CCG tournaments (Official Tournament Sealed Deck format), June 12 & 13. Plenty of notice will be given here on the Decipher Web site, with a special page devoted to the list of events. At these tournaments, which will be directed by a Star Trek CCG Ambassador, a limited number of cards will be available for distribution to players (one pack per person). As with other Decipher special focus tournaments, pre-registration will be your best bet. The Away Team cards will become tournament legal for all Star Trek CCG players June 12. After June 12 An upcoming issue of Scrye magazine will contain the Away Team pack in a special insert. We do not have exact details of when this issue will be available but it will be sometime in the summer. We will also offer these cards as a mail-in for a limited period of time, beginning sometime in the summer ( as we have done from time to time with the Star Wars CCG Rebel Leader cards). The distribution of the Away Team packs will not be limited to North America. Please, do not email or call Decipher asking that the cards be sent to you. The mail-in offer has not started yet. We will broadcast new information as it is known. -- James & Lynne Stewart http://www.jklm.net/index.html KLM Enterprises, Inc. 2805 Oakcliff Ct Johnson City, TN 37601 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Home of the AMOK TIMES NEWSLETTER-Info on Star Trek Collectibles KLM CARDS-Trek cards and stuff for sale! The advantage the Internet has over local is cost, if I can offer a better price, then you will buy from me, the disadvantage is TIME. One must wait. If better price wins over cost, I will get business. If price is the same and you have to wait for the product then I can't offer much. I mean, good looks and personality will just go soooooo far! A: The white border USS Defiant does not have a specific rarity. The card is preview card as designated by the special icon as seen on the Away Team cards and sealed deck premium cards. It should randomly appear roughly one half as often as any other rare card. rom: Lee Jamilkowski - Bethesda, Maryland Q: Does the Defiant come in only expansion packs, or can it be found in starter boxes also? A: The USS Defiant will only be found in expansion packs. Q: Why did you decide to include the Defiant as a card within the set, and why make it WB promotional, rather than simply a surprise within the set with the DS9 icon. A: The USS Defiant is not a part of this set. When the decision was made that the Defiant would be in the Dominion expansion, we realized that players and collectors wanted to see the Defiant. So with that, we wanted to give you a preview of what was in store. Sorry, bable for the Decipher web page live forum! Lynne Q: What are the future plans for the Defiant card? I go to cons and see the American version selling for gobs o' money, wit a Canadian one right beside it for little over retail. Ten I go to anoter dealer across the room who is asking a small fortune for the Canadian one, saying that the American version is quite common. the rare version is the one on TNG card in yellow uniform with a tear in the chest/shoulder (this is an obvious repaint of the first riker released)...the non rare thomas is the one carded on the Deep space nine cardback. The american version is not common on the TNG cardback. I have no Idea about the canadian version...is it on a TNG or DSN cardback? I will assume a bi/trilingual card. You may be seeing the two versions of canadian and US thomas....one TNG one DSN. Just the other day, someone was selling a Tom Riker on a TNG card on eBay. He referred to it as "rare" and wanted, I think, something around $60 as a minimum. I wrote and asked him which was the more valuable, as I was confused and his reply was, "All I can tell you is that I'm selling te American one". I took this to mean that either he didn't know for sure which was te more valuable one or he DID know and didn't wanna tell me it was the Canadian one. I would assume the DSN version, in either language is less expensive. I would assume the TNG version, in either language is more expensive. If you see a TNG carded thomas riker(american) for $60 ...snap it up... is my advice.....the canadian version...hmmm......really not a market in the normal US groups ...etc... so buy one for completeness if you must. I would not get a canadian version for trade. Hope this helps. My working rule of thumb on oddball cards is: Anything with a regular character Anything else with anyone who appeared on Star Trek if I can find the card and the price is not too high. The way I have seen it work...if you live in another country...you pref the multi language card backs. If you live in the US...you pref the US version. The two really don't meet. If you ask the UK collectors I am sure the canadian card would net you more. It is tough to collect all the AF's in more than one type of card back. $$ is the usual reason. hmmm...I doubt any more or less of the canadian version exist, than the US counter part. The reason they charge more is because the multi language version is shipped to several counties...yes, I know the other countries markets are not as large and you can ship fewer...but it remains...a production numbers verses the distribution factors....perhaps a call to the manufacturer to inquire... Not according to te dealers; the ones selling the American on say it's worth more;l the ones selling the Canadian version prefer theirs. Yes, I am sure......let me know what you find out. Where did it come from all that ya da ya da?? I was wondering the same thing myself just a couple days ago. I have that card in with my Master Series 2 set but don't remember why. I started to check it out and I've come up with a few things to consider on this card. Personally I don't know for sure where it came from as I had to purchase it for my collection. To start with, the title of the card... "The Future Arrives in 1994", would make you assume this card came out towards the end of 1993 or very early 1994. My own guess, based on the copyright notice on the back of the card, would be 1994. Trent said... >I thought it was in the 1993 100-card DS9 set. And Vince said... >Me, too, but I didn't say anything because it didn't seem right. Seems >like it would be trumpeting the TNG pisodes, if anything, but I think >Trent's right. Both DS9 sets (Premier and 100 card set) came out in 1993 and both sets have 1993 copyright dates on the cards. The "Future Arrives in 1994" carries a copyright of 1994. Why would they include a 1994 card in a set released in the fall of 1993? One thing going for the DS9 100 card set is that it didn't have a Survey card, so maybe this was it. Did the DS9 set get released late? (like Skybox would ever do that to us huh?) Jeff said... >Just TNG Season One. It was only 4 years ago. Are we all going brain >dead..... Season One is copyright 1994 so that works, but on the back of this card it says: Coming From Skybox in 1994 SPRING: Star Trek: The Next Generation Episode Collection Season 1 The Making of Star Trek: The Next Generation SUMMER: Skybox Master Series II - Star Trek FALL: Star Trek: The Motion Picture, II, III, IV, V, VI Early 1995: Star Trek VII So why would they insert a card advertising STNG Season 1 and Master Series II in with either of those sets it was promoting? Also, Master Series II had a Survey card already. Mark said... >Non-Sports Update Price Guide lists it under both the Master Series II and >the DS9 set (not the factory set - the 1st regular set) It does? Where? I'm looking at the Aug-Sep 1998 issue and I don't see it listed. Which listed item are you looking at as I have every card listed under DS9 and MS 1994 (except the DS9 promo with an orange bar on the back?) and the Future Arrives card does not have an orange bar. -J!m mailto:encore@xmission.com To Unsubscribe from TrekChat send and put "unsubscribe trekchat" in the body without the quotes. -- Previous message archives are available via WWW at: or via FTP at: ftp.xmission.com --in-- /home/ftp/pub/lists/trekchat/archive ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Lynne Stewart Subject: Re: (TrekChat) episode One Date: 29 Jul 1998 22:55:45 -0400 Archive and Unsubscribe information can be found at the bottom of this message. -- > > > So why would they insert a card advertising STNG Season 1 and Master Series > II in with either of those sets it was promoting? I see what confused me. Under both of those sets, the first entry says (Skybox/1994) card, and then a price. Now I realize the first part just tells us ithey are Skybox sets issued in 1994. Then "card" refers to the price for a common single. At my earlier glance, I thought this meant the Coming from Skybox in 1994 card. Sorry if I caused any confusion.
