When most people hear the word "Samba" they think of colorful costumes with giant feathery headpieces that make Donny Osmund in the Technicolored Dreamcoat seem tame by comparison. However, the Samba presented in this article does not rely on how quickly you can move your feet to the rhythm of the beat. It's actually something that you may have used on a regular basis, and not even realized it.

From 'Samba-3 by example' book [ link ]

Samba is software that can be run on platforms other than Microsoft Windows (e.g., UNIX, Linux, Mac).  When correctly configured, it allows non-Windows computers to interact with a Microsoft Windows client or server as if it is a Windows file and print server.

XMission provides our customers with Samba access to not only their "home" directories, but also our software mirror and archive sections. Once your machine is properly configured to access these "shares," uploading and downloading web pages, file backups, anything your heart desires is as simple as dragging and dropping. Of course, some things depend on the speed of your connection and the size of the files you are moving.

Simply follow the instructions [ link ] located in the Miscellaneous section of the XMission help pages and in no time your friendly neighborhood XMission will have a cozy home within your "Network Neighborhood."
