VIPER
Volume 1 Files

Cover for Issue 2 (August, 1978)

Issue 2's highlight is a full analysis of CHIP-8 for the RCA COSMAC VIP. It's complete with flow charts, register maps, and a line by line commentary on each instruction/byte in the 512 byte image as published by RCA in the RCA COSMAC VIP Instruction Manual Part Number: VP-300-1 (1977). Note that the original has serious problems with print quality (admitted by the publisher) in the coding sheets that often have the address and/or data bytes unreadable. Since the VIP manual's CHIP-8 hex dump is available elsewhere, I am not attempting to correct the missing data since I'm simply doing a scan and not attempting to "re-typeset" the document at this time. The main goal is to gain access to J. W. Wentworth's very detailed analysis on the internal workings of CHIP-8.

The VIPER is an Aresco Publication, edited by Terry L.
Laudereau. For information contact Editor, VIPER, P.O.
Box 43, Audubon, PA 19407.

Also of interest is that by Issue 10 of Volume 1 the contact information had changed to the following:

The VIPER is an Aresco Publication, edited by Rick Simpson.
For information contact Editor, VIPER, P.O. Box 1142
Columbia, MD 21044

That being said, Aresco is probably gone, and I personally have no knowledge of the present copyright owner's whereabouts.
