After a night's sleep, we are served a breakfast snack on the train. We enjoy the beautiful rural countryside in the early morning daylight. Our train finally arrives in Dong Hoi after 12 hours. Dong Hoi is a coastal city and we check into our hotel across the road from the beach. We walk to downtown to get an early lunch.
The rest of the day was spent at the Quang Binh province medical center giving a training seminar on resuscitation and emergency care for pediatrics. The doctors from throughout the province had traveled to Dong Hoi for this seminar. Dr Chris Stewart from UCSF and additionally, Dr Michelle Ovenden and Dr Don Bethune (both from Alberta’s Children’s Hospital in Calgary) presented the training sessions that day.
At the conclusion of the training seminar the Project Vietnam group presented to the doctors of the province a considerable amount of free medical equipment brought from the United States and Canada. One could see that they very much appreciated the donated equipment. Everybody vowed to maintain the close professional relationship between the Project Vietnam medical team and the doctors of Quang Binh providence. In the evening the officials of the Quang Binh medical center treated the Project Vietnam medical team to an excellent seafood dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.
