Sunday, April 1, 2001 -- Perfume Pagoda (photo 0401-01)

While the rest of the medical team flew back to the United States, the rest of the group went sightseeing to see the Perfume Pagoda, 60 km south of Hanoi. Here is the departure point for the boat trip up the river to the pagoda.

At the end of the boat ride you hike up the moutain to a network of pagodas and cave-temples. The hike is two miles and is steps all the way. Along the way are constant food stalls and vendors. This is the mecca of North Vietnamse Buddhists who come here during festival season (mid-January to mid-March).
