August 5 and 6
We arrived home from our 18 day vacation on August 5. We were anxious to see our garden and were ecstatic to see how much had grown! We were able to harvest corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and other goodies right away! We had a lot of work to do to clear out grown weeds, harvest herbs and cook, dry and freeze them. Our sunflower plants had grown to nearly 12 feet (you can see closeups of those flowers at Sunflowers Now!. Here are photos of our garden:

July 17
The vegetables are growing fast. We also have fruit growing - apples, plums and grapes (actually the grapes are hanging over into our field from our neighbor's property!).

July 15
We love taking photos of plants, including the wild ones.

We finished planting today - yay!

Carrots from last season are seeding now.

June 29
Our plants are growing! Today we planted 7 more rows.
We have about 10 more rows to plant and then we will be finished planting.

May 30
Today we weren't able to do as much as we wanted because it rained for about half the day. We were able to rake up 4 more rows and almost complete the irrigtation trenches.
We planted ornamental grass seedlings interspersed with sunflower seeds.

We also planted white corn from corn we grew last summer, the seeds of which had been given to us by a native american seed man. We also planted more varieties of winter squash and beans.

Then we irrigated for the first time this season! We have to drive to the wier and turn it on, then drive to the diversion box and make sure the right direction is opened up. Then we have to travel along the ditch (about a mile) where the water travels to make sure it is free of debris. This often entails going behind businesses and cleaning out the ditch. Then we have to go to another diversion box across from our house and make sure the path to our property is opened.
And then we are ready for the water!

May 29
We started earlier today (6:30am). Tom continued raking up rows and Dee continued working on the irrigation ditch to make it wider. Today we were able to plant 10 rows ~ one of sunflowers (again some which produce edible seeds) with beans interspersed and 9 rows with a variety of sweet corn, winter squash and beans. Today we spent 6 hours because we took time out to do some tilling in the irrigation ditch and some watering of our back garden which is producing lots of yummy stuff!
Tomorrow we will continue by starting on the second half of the garden. The first half has a total of 21 rows, 15 of which are about 25 feet in length!

May 28
We were out working by 8:30am in our front field. Tom raked up rows for planting and I dug our irrigation ditch around the perimeter of the field. We planted 11 rows ~ one of sunflowers (some of which will produce edible seeds) with beans interspersed and the rest with a variety of sweet corn, winter squash and beans. It took us 5 hours to do abouit 1/4 of the field.

May 18
The day our field was plowed and tilled
This is our front field ~ we will plant corn, winter squash and beans here.

The iris is really beautiful this year.

This is our back garden. We have spinach, lettuce, onion and carrots growing. Today we planted tomatoes, green and purple basil, oregano, peppers, taragon, chives and cilantro.
