Axum
A Hamitic-speaking people in what is now Ethiopia and Sudan, Christian (Monophysite) from an early date.After invading Meroë ca. 350 AD, Axum was loosely allied with the Eastern Romans. They no doubt encouraged Axumite armies to deal with the Nobades and Blemmyes, and later more involvement in Yemen.
Axumite merchants traded - and influence was spread - along the Arabian coastline, south as far as Somalia, and north past Alexandria.
