Blemmye
A Tigre-speaking people between the Nile and the Red Sea, they caused grief to their neighbors for centuries. Pliny grouped them with the "monstrous races," e.g. Troglodytes, but a higher level of civilization is clear, and some written Greek attested - they called their kings basiliskos. A force of Blemmyes aided Zenobia's attack on Egypt.They left behind few archaeological remains, and remain something of a mystery. Their practices may have included human sacrifice to a Sun god.
