Emishi Lords
The nature of the warlike peoples generally in the north of the lands the Chinese termed Wo is uncertain. These are not identical with the Ainu, yet may have included them in their ranks. They apparently excelled in personal combat and archery, taking to light horse when it became available.Emishi worked as mercenaries in Japanese internal wars, and seem to have fulfilled the role of "Northern Barbarian" in a smaller-scale analog to the contemporary Goths, Turks, Tibetans, and Hephthalites.
