A Twilight of Empires

Lords of the Earth, Campaign 13

Later Yen Dynasty

This empire was founded in 386 CE by a rebel general from the Hsiung'nu federation, one Lu Kuang, who was Tibetan in origin. He had been sent by Fu Chien in 382 to subdue various Silk Road principalities, succeeded, then declared a dynasty on his master's demise.

It was one of the Shih-liu kuo, the Sixteen Kingdoms, that dominated northern China during the 4th and early 5th centuries CE. Lacking administrative experience, they relied heavily on co-opted local leaders, scribes, and priests.
