A Twilight of Empires

Lords of the Earth, Campaign 13

Later Ts'in Dynasty

This empire was founded in 384 CE by a rebel general from the Hsiung'nu federation, one Yao Ch'ang, who was probably Tibetan in origin.

It was one of the Shih-liu kuo, the Sixteen Kingdoms, that dominated northern China during the 4th and early 5th centuries CE. Lacking administrative experience, they relied heavily on co-opted local leaders, scribes, and priests.

The founder was succeeded by his nephew, Yao Hsing. It was Yao Hsing who dispatched a party to invite Kumarajiva to China to translate Buddhist holy texts into Chinese.
