Lords of the Earth, Campaign 13

Alternate Combat Resolution

There is a standard method of resolving conflicts between armies and fleets in Lords of the Earth. The GM handles this, which is usually taken to model the low-level campaigning with a given region, ending in a battle or series of battles until winners and losers are assigned.

Naturally, there are other ways of managing campaigns and battles.

D.I.Y.

That's right, do it yourself. If all sides in a conflict have indicated a prior interest in directly resolving battles, the GM will contact everyone and help to arrange a campaign and/or battle. There are many rules sets tailored to such things, often using miniature figures on the tabletop, e.g. DBM, WHAB, etc. The GM will help you translate your armies into equivalents, and you can have at each other directly.

Two methods are CyberBoard and DBA Online. For a small fee and software download you can fight battles over the internet. This is not an endorsement, and a third method is to set up a three-way (!), in which each side sends army orders to a third party, who volunteers to resolve the battle on the tabletop and report the results. Any of these options are fun alternatives to standard combat. Let the GM know if you have other ideas ...
