Tang Chinese Steppe Falconer at Court

A Twilight of Empires

Lords of the Earth, Campaign 13

Limited Builds

This is a rather brute-force attempt to enforce historical common sense. Not every nation should have access to every possible troop type. For instance, the Hsiung'Nu did not march out of Mongolia and into China with thousands of armored spearmen, marching in a phalanx to present a shield wall to the waiting Ts'in armies of swirling horse archers. Yet standard LOTE does not address this. While one may set a low Infantry QR, this is not a suitable approach either, as these same nomads were capable of fielding light infantry (XI) of at least tolerable quality.

Thus each national position comes with a list of allowed troops. This is found in the Custom Units section of the nation's emailed stats sheet. The player may raise these units only. Usually this means the regular units, plus elite and inexperienced versions as well.

But wait, says the Frisian player. I want to raise massed armies of horse archers to face the Huns. How can I do this now?
