Tang Chinese Steppe Falconer at Court

A Twilight of Empires

Lords of the Earth, Campaign 13

Trade, Port Areas, and Cities

At times, cities were not built on a coastline, due to fear of naval raiders. Instead a port area would arise on the shore, with the city - and walls - inland a safe distance. Famous examples are Rome and Athens.

The following, then, applies to 5.7.5, 4.1.3, and perhaps elsewhere.

  • A Port Area on a coastal region with an inland city converts that city to a Port City, so long as the region and Port Area are controlled by the player controlling the inland city.
  • Such inland Port Cities may only build ship units as per Port Area restrictions.
  • A Port Area may be used as a trade conduit point.
Difficulties arising from this will be worked out in consultation with the players, as always.
