Digital Services: Studio Scan
Scanning Scan and Giclée Scan Pricing

Scanning
Quite frequently we receive scan orders with items too large to flatbed scan. This is where the studio scanning process becomes invaluable. Our experienced photography staff carefully digitally photograph oversized items for Giclée printing, Lambda printing, restoration (especially oval convex vintage prints) and other needs requiring large MB scans. When requesting studio scans, and to help us provide you with the best scan for your needs, we suggest you consider the following questions:

What are your output (or printing) size requirements?
  Physical size: ie 8x10, 16x20, 20x30 etc
DPI (Dots Per Inch): 100 DPI, 300 DPI, etc.
When discussing DPI issues, be aware (depending on your output method, or how you're going to use the scan) that bigger isn't necessarily always better. If you're unsure of your DPI needs we suggest you consult one of our Digital Specialists.

What file format will work the best for your specific needs?

TIFF
Tagged-Image File Format (TIFF), is used to exchange files between applications and computer platforms. TIFF is a flexible bitmap image format supported by virtually all paint, image-editing, and page-layout applications.

We suggest this format for most printing and design needs.

JPEG
Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format is commonly used to display photographs on the World Wide Web and other online services. JPEG format supports CMYK, RGB, and Grayscale color modes, but does not support alpha channels.

JPEG retains all color information in an RGB image but compresses file size by selectively discarding data thus a smaller file size is attained. You should be aware, however, that the loss of image quality is possible with this compression process.

We suggest this format for scans that are earmarked for web usage or Powerpoint presentations and etc.

On What type of computer will you be working with the file(s)?
  Apple Macintosh
  PC Compatibles

On What type media should we save your file(s)?
  In-house archive for future usage
  Writeable CD
  ZIP Disk
