Sept 2 Life after EQ? How do you deal with addiction? |
So Mike quit playing Everquest this week. I started playing with him last year on Labor Day Weekend and it's become one of the ways I spend my time. After Siggraph, Mike decided that having a computer at home that ran a crappy OS like Windows and contained *1* program was not satisfying. Heaven knows you can't play the same goddamn game forever. So Olio and Veruth are going all the way of the world, and for a day or two I was a little sad, but what was worse, is that the lag was so horrible that I couldn't even stay connected for more than an hour or two. Who knows? Fine enough, I can enteratain myself.... So Mike and I played with the genetic plug-in he wrote for the Gimp and we made a few pretty pictures. I managed to print some out, which is the first time we've actually worked that way together. these look much better on the 11x17 photo paper. I would be really interested in getting piezography set up for my Epson 1520, but they've customized it mostly for BW photographers, and that is not my thing. I'd have to give up the full color that I really like to use. So this lag problem on EQ has really caused me to think about all the things I think about doing, but never really get to anymore. I got back on the IRC and chatted with my ARF friends this week, and I'm happy to be chatting again. I'm really starting to feel old though. I popped over to the slashnet to check out the penny-arcade channel *sigh* gamer geeks are so egomaniacal. I guess their ego is all they really have besides their consoles and dicks.... I've vowed to get back into making more artwork and animation. I've been dinking around with the Animation Master I picked up at Siggraph last year, but never got past the clunky gui. I decided I'd try to set aside the ADD for just a bit, and read the manual. Fine. I want to see what their modeling tools really do, since they are always harping on spline and patches...yeah yeah. This is what they said about the primitives I was looking for:
wha??? shiit, I can't believe I spent money on this POS. No primitives? Who doesn't even include the most basic of tools for digital artists? *sigh*
