Information about the Bernoulli Drive

BERNOULLI ABCs

The Bernoulli drive was named after a Swiss scientist who discovered the principle of aerodynamic lift. The principal characteristic of a Bernoulli drive is that the flexible disk floats between the read/write heads, so there is no actual contact between the disk and the heads. With this principal the Bernoulli drive is less susceptible to head crashes.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Computer Freezes after installing a Bernoulli drive in Windows 3.x.

Ensure the below line is within your autoexec.bat to prevent the caching of the Bernoulli drive.

C:\Windows\SMARTDRV.EXE D-

Where D is the Bernoulli drive.

Attempt to run Windows by typing the below command.

WIN /D:v

If windows loads after tying the above line, edit the system.ini and add VIRTUALHDIRQ=OFF in the [386ENH] section.

Windows NT 3.1 backup does recognize removable media drives.

Windows NT will not detect removable drives such as the Bernoulli drive or floptical drives, however can be worked around by doing the following:

Open Windows NT file manager and share the removable media.

Connect to the shared drive from either file manager or through DOS.

Once a disk is within the drive, you will be able to use Windows NT to backup the removable drive as a shared device.

Can I use DOS / Windows Diskcopy command?

Do not attempt to use DOS or Windows DISKCOPY command. Doing so will cause the target disk to become unreadable. If this is attempted, you will have to format the disks, causing all data to be lost.
