File manager

  1. In general, refers to a software program that is often a portion of the operating system that helps a user manage all the files on their computer. For example, all file managers allow the user to view, edit, copy, and delete the files on their computer.
  2. When referring to Microsoft Windows 3.x, File Manager is program included with Windows 3.x that enabled users to manage their files on the computer. File Manager was replaced with Explorer and My Computer with the introduction of Windows 95. Although Windows 95 and Windows 98 users still have the ability to run these programs.
